Minister launches new ePassport gates at Cardiff Airport The latest-technology e-gates have been funded by the Welsh Government. They will permit travellers with biometric passports to bypass manual inspections, allowing for a quicker entry into Wales. Although Cardiff International Airport Ltd (CIAL) was one of the first airports in the UK to introduce e-gate technology, the three original gates were removed by the UK Border Force in 2017 as the initial technology was superseded. UK Government allows ePassport gates to be fitted free of charge by UK Border Force only at airports with...

Easyjet posts first ever annual loss...

"easyJet's first ever annual loss - £1.27 billion year ending 30 September 2020. A summary of the main points: 1. Expected to fly just 20% of normal capacity into next year. 2. The airline welcomed news of vaccine as underlying demand for air travel is strong - bookings rose nearly 50% when news of the vaccine was made public last week. 3. The pandemic has put great pressure on easyJet's finances forcing it to take on more debt, ask shareholders for extra cash and sell more aircraft. 4. The airline's CEO believes that in the near future easyJet should not need more than the £3 billion already raised. Unsurprisingly as he is the CEO he is bullish about the current situation."

The next Jet2 base is...

" I think that today's earlier discussion on the LBA Jet2 thread contained some big hints. Excellent news to see the rumours were true. Mytilene and Kalamata are new to BRS as far as I can remember, and it's great to see Salzburg back as a summer route. For years it's been ski-season only at BRS. It now remains to see how easyJet, Ryanair and TUI react. Addendum It looks as though Salzburg might in fact be a skis season route too.

Kanoni Cafe, A planespotters paradise!

"For the most relaxing plane spotting head to the Kanoni Cafe in Kanoni which is the end of the line for the Blue Bus number 2A (I think) from Corfu Town. It is great for watching the approach over the sea and the landing on the single airport runway. I think they have moved the town buses since we were there so not certain where they run from from now (was San Rocco Sq I think) but the fare is only about 1/2€ and is even cheaper if you buy a strip of tickets from a Periptero (kiosk) rather than from the driver. (All info from about 6 years ago) Very atmospheric and cheap too. Went there every evening when we were last there".....
