We have used Jet2 out of EMA after several years of using Monarch out of BHX. We used Monarch due to the better selection of flights to LCA from BHX than Jet2 offered from EMA.

With the similar frequencies now by Jet2 from both airports we have switched to EMA as it is closer to home.

We miss Monarch a lot but Jet2 are also very good. Jet2 are a welcome addition to BHX.

Looking at the seats maps for tomorrow's new routes, Kos is full, Almeria has only a few seat left (around 95%) but Sunday's flight is full. It's only Thessaloniki which is slightly lower but still showing 86%, which isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination.

Dalaman starts on Friday and is totally full, as are the flights on Saturday and Monday.

I will add the usual caveat that seat maps are only indicative and it's yields that are key, it's still interesting nevertheless (y)

The A321 will start tomorrow morning on LS1263 to Mahon. In true Jet2 style there are only 4 seats left :)

Tomorrow also sees 14 flights, Alicante, Krakow, Palma, Malaga, Rome, Faro and Mahon in the morning. Then Antalya, Tenerife, Malaga, Dalaman, Ibiza, Prague and Alicante in the afternoon.

Things should pick up a little more in a couple of weeks.

Summer is just around the corner (y)

Interesting ....

Jet2 has released their STN Summer 19 schedule. Whilst I’m sure this won’t be the final schedule, interestingly, it’s “only” a 12x aircraft base, which means that BHX will only be 1x aircraft and 5x weekly flights behind STN and offer 6 more routes!

For comparison….

BHX Summer 2019 Jet2 Schedule
  • Routes: 41 Routes (33 Routes in 2018)
  • New Routes: 8 Routes: EGC, BOJ, CHQ, ADB, EFL, PRG, PUY, VRN
  • Routes Increased: 16x Routes: ALC, AYT, HER, FOA, FUE, LPA, IBZ, ACE, LCA, FNC, PMI, AGP, MAH, PFO, REU, TFS
  • Weekly Flights: 166x Weekly Flights (125x Weekly Flights in 2018)
  • Based Aircraft: 11x BHX Based Aircraft, +PMI & ALC based units (8.5x Based in 2018)
STN Summer 2019 Jet2 Schedule (So far…)
  • Routes: 35 Routes (32 Routes in 2018)
  • New Routes: 3 Routes: BOJ, CHQ, ADB
  • Routes Increased: 14x Routes
  • Weekly Flights: 171x Weekly Flights (153x Weekly Flights in 2018)
  • Based Aircraft: 12(?)x STN Based Aircraft, +PMI & ALC based units (10x Based in 2018)

Zakynthos starts tomorrow with the first flight sold out.

The full list of the departures for tomorrow.

Dalaman - Full flight
Faro - Full flight
Mahon - 8 seats left
Palma - Full flight
Malaga - Full flight
Reus - 4 seats left
Ibiza - Full flight
Alicante - 3 seats left
Larnaca - 8 seats left
Lanzarote - Full flight
Zakynthos - Full flight
Tenerife - 19 seats left
Heraklion - 2 seats left
Las Palmas - Full flight
Palma - Full flight
Alicante - Full flight

Out of Sixteen departures ten are full, five have just single digit seats left, with only one in the teens but still a 90% load factor and there is still time for more people to check in.

We don't know the yields but Jet2 really know how to get bums on seats.

Jet2 are storming at BHX

Let that be a lesson to these airlines that are either shy of expanding at BHX or indeed dont fly to BHX. There is serious money to be made if you pick your routes carefully and dont let the public down.

It's not difficult is it?

If anyone wants a masterclass in how to set up a new base then just look at what Jet2 have done at BHX and STN. Their success has been phenomenal.

I get the feeling that there may still be more to come for S19 :)

Thanks for that Ray :(

Not as easy as you think mate. I was very, very impressed with Jet2 earlier this year.

The airport staff at both airports were very attentive.
The boarding procedure was far more efficient than Monarch ever managed.
The cabin interior is tastefully illuminated and decorated.
The overhead lockers are oversized so that the standard cabin bag fits "side-up" rather than flat meaning they all fit in.
Cabin crew took every opportunity to maximize onboard sales without becoming a nuisance which I especially appreciate with regards to the demise of Monarch.

There has been a lot of hard work going into this product.

Jet2 looked at what everyone else did wrong and decided against that approach. Just proves that you do not have to pay over the odds to get quality. If you instil a customer quality experience as an ethos in staff from the get go, it is a winner.

I have given up on oranges. Hopefully the yellow lot will turn it all around once they are up and running. I will never travel with the other "well Irish" airline again even if I was bring evaculated from a volcanic island and that was the only flight. I will take my chances with the pyroclastic flows. Grrrrrrrr.

Tomorrow's inaugural Pisa is showing only 11 seats remaining.

To complete the Italian line up Rome also has 11 seats left and Naples is full.

Would Jet2 be successful at long-haul, does anyone think?

Well Orlando a couple of of times a week surely would work but obviously they would need to construct a proper reliable
network unlike the example we seem to be getting from a.n.other.

To be honest as much as I would like them to go long haul they really seem to have found a niche in the market and get nothing but praise so stick to what your good at is what I wold say for what it's worth.

Mind you has to be money to be made for someone BHX to MCO.
