British tourist moans her Benidorm holiday was ruined by 'too many Spanish people'

© Lancashire Telegraph - Freda Jackson, 81, said that Spanish people should go somewhere else for their holidays A British woman has claimed her holiday to Benidorm was ruined because her hotel had 'too many Spaniards in it'

Freda Jackson, 81, said that Spanish people should go somewhere else for their holidays and she cried at the end of her two-week trip.

The pensioner, who suffers from mobility issues, says her accommodation was teeming with 'rude' native Spaniards - who nearly knocked her over on one occasion.

Retired care assistant Freda said: "The hotel was full of Spanish holidaymakers and they really got on our nerves because they were just so rude.

"One evening a Spanish guy nearly knocked me flying and he just walked off without even apologising.

"The entertainment in the hotel was all focused and catered for the Spanish - why can't the Spanish go somewhere else for their holidays?"

It's hard to believe there are actually real people around like this. She is incredibly stupid. Seriously, why didn't she just go to Blackpool for her summer holiday.

What an absolute plonker. I hope she doesn't try to claim compensation !!
Apparently she has, Thomas Cook sent her an offer of i think £500 to split between her and her friend but she hasn't excepted it yet.

Please tell me that's not true, we frequently go to Gran Canaria and at weekends the locals disgracefully take their kids to the beach and actually speak in some sort of foreign lingo, how bad is that?

I don't know why we keep going back, next visit six weeks away.

Thomas Cook bosses initially offered Freda and her friend a £75 holiday voucher as compensation for the 'disappointing' trip abroad.

But after declining the initial 'goodwill gesture' made by the travel company, they made an improved offer of £566 to be split between Freda and her friend.

It's disgusting. There are plenty of people out there who rightfully deserve compensation but definitely not this woman.

Yep i agree. I'm surprised Thomas Cook have even offered her any at all.

You ought to book a Thomas Cook holiday to somewhere in England, Jerry, then complain that the place is full of English people. It could be a nice little earner for you now that Thomas Cook has set a precedent.

I have a feeling they would laugh at me if i did that! Maybe i should book my next trip to Oregon with them and then complain it's full of Americans!:LOL:

Regardless of how ridiculous this persons claims are why the hell are Thomas Cook offering her compensation???

What kind of message does it send out?

On our last day in Ibiza we had a massive thunderstorm with rain like I had never seen before. It ended up turning the hotel corridor into a small river and our apartment into a small lake, with my little boy slipping over and bruising his knee. I could quite easily have thrown some of our personal belongings into the water, sent Jet2 videos of my little ones knee and the water in the room and kicked up a real fuss about ruined clothing. No doubt there would have been some sort of compensation offered.

The reality was that although the storm only lasted 90 mins or so, that amount of rain in such a short period of time seemed to have been unprecedented, with many locals saying they hadn't seen anything like it in decades. We made the hotel aware of our flood and within minutes there was a team of five cleaners in the room, fifteen mins later it was as good as new. My lad slipped on the floor because he was being disobedient and ignoring our requests to stay in the dry area, it was his own bloomin fault.

I don't think people realise that the tour companies, airlines and hotels will not lose out and as compensation claims rise so will the cost of flights and holidays to offset that. In the long run these mickey mouse claims will end up costing people more.

If there has been genuine negligence and people have suffered real hardship then compensation is quite rightly due but this kind of thing really seems to have gotten out of hand!

Could form my own thread called "travelling the UK using public transport". Had another trip to Fountains Abbey near Ripon yesterday. No problems getting there give or take the perils of travelling to Leeds with frequent service "adjustments" on Transpennine Express means you invariably have to use the Northern service stopping at virtually every station after Rochdale which means up to 85 minutes getting there. Short walk to Leeds Bus Station to get the 36 up to Ripon (via Harrogate) which takes 90 minutes or so including a few minutes in Harrogate.

Then it's a 3 mile walk with the last mile or so cutting through the Studley Royal Deer Park - saw plenty of deer but too far out of range to take meaningful pictures of them. Fountains Abbey is a UNESCO World Heritage Site - founded by Cistercian monks centuries ago and for a site made up of "ruins" quite a lot of it remains.
I've been there when there's been storm clouds around with sun shining to make a spectacular contrast but it was blue skies all the way. Also made a world of difference going on a Monday which meant the majority of photos didn't have the issue of people picnicking in front of it. Each part of the site is labelled so you can see what a feature was and you can combine features to make some outstanding photos. You can spend couple of hours exploring around there before you head off to the Studley Royal Water Park.

The water park, as it's name suggests, it mainly ponds of various sizes and shapes and has various statues dotted around them. There are other points of interest the main one being the "Surprise View" which is reached by going up a quite steep pathway and the view itself being the River Skell in the foreground with the site of Fountains Abbey in the background. For best effect, you need to get there for as near to sunset as possible (given the restrictions of the grounds opening times) so that you get a nice golden glow in the sky with the river reflecting the sunset.

There's a couple of other features that are a short distance away which give views of the various ponds and you can get some nice shots of the autumnal colours. The furthest one, the Octagon Tower is the end point of your walk at the higher level with a tunnel being next door to it which winds itself down to a path that leads to all the ponds. As you come down the path, there's a temple that you can see and take a few photos combining it with the landscape and Canada geese and swans that congregate round the ponds.

Now this is when the "problems" of yesterday started. The grounds close at 6pm so I made my way out just before then and headed back. The 36 departs Ripon at 7.15 and there was no indication it wasn't running. Got to the bus station just before 7 after taking a few more photos as I left the deer park. The display said the bus was cancelled and showed the next one due at 8.25 which meant I was looking at the prospect of not getting back into Manchester until near midnight as that bus wouldn't get back to Leeds until around 10pm.

Luckily at 7.15, the display refreshed and that cancelled bus went off the display to be replace by a 7.45 departure. Boarded that and got to Leeds Station just as the 9.20 train was leaving so had to wait 25 minutes for the next one and arrived into Victoria at 11.10, with me arriving at my flat at just after midnight.

I spent 6 hours walking and travelling via bus and train for a journey that takes no more than 2 hours by car. Why didn't i get the train to Harrogate and take the bus from there? Simple. The train fare was coming in at around £30 with the bus being £8 return. Whereas going to Leeds cost £19 and got a bus daytripper costing £12.

Over 250 photos taken which I am sorting out.

Going to give a shout out to a small minibus operator that does tours that start in Chester, Liverpool and Manchester - BusyBus.

They offer tours of North Wales, the Lake District and Yorkshire in a minibus that carries no more than 16 passengers. I've gone on a couple of trips with them this Autumn and couldn't fault them - the only one not experienced is the Yorkshire one. The cost is £59 per adult (£29 for a child) but if you supply the discount code then you get £5 knocked off. The whole trip lasts between 9 and 10 hours.

On each tour you get to see 5 or 6 places where the tour guide/minbus driver tells you how long the stop will be and then you are left to your own devices to explore that area before getting back on board the minibus to go to the next destination. They do advise that if we are not able to visit a given site then they do have alternative places to visit - you are given laminated handouts that show the intended route but shows all the places that may be visited with the reverse giving a brief outline of each place and bit of general information.

One thing that they do warn about is they will take photos of you in unguarded moments and then upload them to their ***Links to other Social Media platforms are not permitted***- page the following day, as well as doing some more "posed" pictures.

Some of the places we went to, I had previously visited but as the tour guide themselves said, it's to give a flavour of the area so that you would be encouraged to spend a longer period there. So for me, this was an ideal way to gauge if I wanted to make a day of it at some of the "unknown" destinations or not, and if I didn't as we had done the "highlight" of that area, at least I had photos from there.

On both trips we were given a potted history of the places we visited and also any interesting landmarks we passed on the way. You will also see the sumptuous landscape and be tempted to take photos on the journey (even if more than a few blurry shots are taken!)

The only "odd" thing for me was when booking one trip. Forgetting when I booked holidays from work meant that me delaying booking the trip to the Lakes which saw it sold out from Manchester so I had to get the train to Liverpool at 7am to make sure I got to the World Museum for around 9am. The Manchester trips start from the Manchester Airport Bus Station and the Chester trips from outside Chester Station.
