I really don't understand the issue. With the loss of Monarch & recently Primera Air it's good to see an airline/tour, that is financially stable, not taking too many risks and sticking to what it does best. Jet2 are the real replacement to Monarch at BHX, especially on the "costa del cheeses" (and i quote) routes. It's also not just Jet2 that have this market research, data - it's also BHX airport. They will want a replacement to the void left by Monarch as that brings passengers through the doors. Passengers bring money. Money brings revenue and profit. That equates to investment.

As always with Jet2 they don't release the Ski or City routes yet in winter, they wait a little before releasing the rest of the programme. I do see some expansion of the city routes PRG & KRK, especially November & December months with the Christmas markets. Also KEF is a "one off" route in March but who's to say that won't become a feature of the Winter programme. And a final note; Charters to Lapland from BHX will not be put on sale by Jet2.com but as talked about earlier Jet2 have 2 weekly charter flights to Lapland from mid/late November upto/after christmas. This could expand in 2019/2020.

Finally; It's Brexit year. I wouldn't expect many risks to be taken.

Jet2 have been the shining light in recent years and really shown others how it should be done. The sun routes still look to be down on numbers so any expansion is welcome. The high load factors across the board over the summer should mean that the yields have improved.

It's frustrating to see the likes of Rome (4x weekly) and Venice (2x weekly) being constantly sold out, especially when frequencies have been much higher in the past but I trust that Jet2 know what they are doing.

I don't want to speak for Ian but I think the frustration over expansion on the regular routes may be directed towards the airport, rather than at Jet2. Birmingham has so many destinations now missing it's beyond a joke, with others just crying out for more capacity, a press release celebrating one year of Hamburg says it all.

Carry on doing what you are doing Jet2*, we are all right behind you (y)

*If they want to add Lisbon it would be more than welcome :)

Re: Lisbon

Ray will book tomorrow if you add Lisbon. ;)

Not sure which Ian you fmrefer to but it is with me having a good moan in an earlier post then my frustration is the general lack of routes to vital business cities.

I agree that Jet2 are to be applauded and inlove what they do....did nearly book with them from Stansted, but chose Squeezyjet from Souf'end instead so close to my first experience. They have been fantastic for Brum but I hope one day to see city routes rather than just resorts.

The dip will soon end.

Rumours going round that Jet2 are seeking to acquire discount A321's at some point next year.

As Airbus come to the end of the A320ceo-family production line, there may be opportunities for airlines to snap up brand-new frames at reduced prices. This is apparently how Jet2 got their batch of brand-new Boeing 737-800 that enabled the new BHX and STN bases.

New route to Budapest, 2x weekly from Nov 8th 2019.

Prague goes 4x weekly for Dec 2019 with a Thur and Sun flight added until the first week in Jan. Rome stays 2x weekly and Venice not bookable from Nov to Feb.

Only had a quick look at the ski flights but it looks similar to this year.

Ski Flights do not appear to have been released yet, only sun routes and city breaks.....

However just reading further into your post Ray, if we have lost Venice for Budapest then not such a positive move but i suppose one to watch.

:cautious:

Venice is the same as this winter, not operating from mid Nov to mid Feb, so no real loss as such. Monarch operated it year round and I was kind of hoping that Jet2 may have given it a go.

It will be interesting to see if Wizz react in any way.

Overall quite good gain for BHX; as i would imagine that BUD will continue into the Summer. A new route for 2020. BHX is turning into a bigger base then STN with the amount of destinations served.

Stansted is heavily geared towards the holiday market, which is unsurprising really given the huge domination by Ryanair. At Birmingham they have much more variety with the likes of Rome, Prague, Pisa, Venice, Krakow and now Budapest. A sure sign that they know each market very well (y)

It's also good to see that they aren't afraid to step in where others already exist, going up against Ryanair to Krakow, a daily Czech Airlines to Prague and now Wizz to Budapest :)

Of course Ray; they are both as big as each other but it depends what you compare. STN by number of flights; BHX by number of destinations served.

STN seems to be a high frequency flights to holiday destinations over BHX which seems to be treated like every other base; city, ski & beach.

As a comparison if Jet2 were to start city routes from STN they would have to compete with Ryanair on frequency. FCO for example has 5 daily flights between STN/FCO, 4 daily flights STN/BCN and the list goes on. Dumping similar competitive capacity onto those routes plus others would only be disruptive and not profitable for Jet2 as Ryanair would compete and slash prices.

Back to BHX; i can imagine the city destinations will continue to grow (i'm surprised BHX hasn't got NCE yet) whilst holiday will also grow alongside.

Budapest Airport welcomes new route and more seats from Jet2.com

Already serving Budapest Airport from East Midlands, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford and Manchester, the Hungarian capital gateway announces that Jet2.com will add a new service to Birmingham commencing 8 November 2019. With the airline’s additional commitment to increase winter flights on its existing four routes for W19/20, Jet2.com will offer over 30% more capacity from Budapest next winter, with 110,000 seats to go on sale.

“Budapest Airport is delighted to welcome yet another connection to the UK from our partner Jet2.com,” comments Kam Jandu, CCO, Budapest Airport. “The flights, especially from winter next year, will provide excellent connections between two great cities. We especially look forward to welcoming guests from the UK Midlands catchment area to experience our excellent winter festivities, including the unique spa facilities, great variety of bars and restaurants, and of course the recently awarded best Christmas market in Europe.”

Jet2.com services to Birmingham will operate twice-weekly on Mondays and Fridays using the airline’s 189-seat 737-800s. The new route itself will contribute 17,000 more seats to the market between Budapest and the UK in W19/20. While more than 49,000 passengers travelled between Birmingham and Budapest last year courtesy of Wizz Air’s existing service, over 36,000 people have flown between the two cities during the first nine months of 2018.

The W19/20 ski flights are now on sale.

At first glance it looks pretty much the same as this winter.

It is very much the same around the network with no notable changes. I would imagine however if there is a new ski route (not saying there is however INN is an obvious one given that ZB is now out of that market and operated heavily into INN) it will be announced all together from all bases.

Okay maybe there is a few changes:
STN-ILD has gone for W19/20 so presume it will either operate as a charter or dropped completely.
STN-SZG has dropped in frequency too.
