Another airline that can't leave well enough alone...

American and Iberia have ditched iconic logos - which could be recognised without any need for the airline name to be written alongside - in favour of abstract swooshes of colour which say nothing about the company name.

I see nothing wrong with the shamrock. If they want to update the livery, they should be taking a leaf out of KLM and LH's book - there's no reason why a historic logo can't be integrated in a contemporary design.

I'm also confused by the statement that "the Aer Lingus brand will remain" - surely they weren't thinking of a name change?!

That's what I wondered. I think it's more likely to be loose communication but who knows?

I wouldn't be surprised if they had thought of one but maybe political sensibilities prevented that with them being a strong Irish brand?

I have now read a source on another forum which says the shamrock will be staying. Seems pretty authoritative as it was from live twitter updates on an EI news conference. (y)

My first flight with Aer Lingus will be in a few weeks time from Dublin to San Francisco. Does anyone know if they are buy onboard for food and drink in economy for long haul flights?

No, you’ll get a main meal service and a snack meal before arrival. There is also snacks available during the flight from the galley areas.

Apparently there will be a new livery reveal on the 17th.

I am hoping it will just be a tweak like KLM but if rumours are to be believed, I'm in for a disappointment.

I think it's bland. Aer Lingus current livery makes them stand out while this one is just bland in imo.

I`m not a fan of Euro white schemes, Lufthansa being the worst, however I will wait till I have seen an
Aer Lingus in real life as Iberia looks quite good but that is because it has bright colours

I think this may be part of a livery template around the whole IAG group. It wouldn't take much to change it to LEVEL or Iberia. Makes me wonder if BA is next.

The current BA livery was adopted in 1999, the same time that Aer Lingus adopted its current green fuselage livery which IMO looks more dated than the BA livery. I doubt in another 20 years that the BA livery will look dated compared to Aer Lingus or Iberia.

Although I wouldn't have gone in that direction, I don't dislike the computer render of the new livery and see myself growing to like it:

However footage from the unveiling makes the tail look more blue/turquoise than green though which I don't like at all. Hopefully its just the lighting in the hanger, but I wonder if this livery will be like Lufthansa's new livery in that the actual finish doesn't match with the computer render:
