Hi SRDey,
Apologies if i came across as critical. Was just a little surprised to see Biman on the front page.

After some digging on another forum I gathered that DAC-BHX-JFK was the project of the Biman CEO Kevin Steele (rumoured to be a bit of a BHX fanboy). However, the US authorities insisted on DAC-MAN-EWR due to lack of slots at JFK. That suggests to me that the traffic rights for DAC-MAN-USA were still in place from when MAN was previously served in 2010 (and then dropped for financial reasons).

Also, Biman were planning to use leased aircraft to serve DAC-BHX-JFK. This was so they wouldn't have to apply for new traffic rights for their own aircraft. However, the United States FAA were reportedly not satisfied that the leased aircraft would meet their standards.

As the Biman management didn't want to serve MAN or EWR they ended up launching nothing.

Maybe someone better informed than myself could give an idea of the size of the DAC-BHX market? Are there many connections through the likes of Emirates?
Don’t worry about it you shouldn't have to feel as though your critical things happen I suppose.

Thanks for the insight into why Biman’s route never came through at least we are getting some answers now.

I did mention in the Biman thread that our Bangladeshi population is in Bordesley Green, Small Heath, Aston and Lozells. As I also said in the Biman Thread My family have a lot of very close affluent Bangladeshi Hindu Family Friends that live in Acocks Green (My Area), Hall Green, Selly Oak and Edgbaston and they all travel to Bangladesh regularly not only that they also go to The USA very often because many of them have both Young and Older relatives that have established them selfs and live in the New York and New Jersey area they have told me and when ever they have to go to Bangladesh or the USA they have to drive down to Heathrow and fly Biman or United and one good thing about them is they love flying Biman and they support their national Airline because they love the services, they talk about how wonderful the crew are and how hospitable they are and how much they take care of everyone, authentic Bengali Food that not many airlines know about or make and the fact they can speak every dialect of Bengali epically the posh dialect that we speak in India not only that it’s Direct to both the cities of Dhaka and Sylhet. I know when they fly from Birmingham they fly Emirates and they love Emirates luxury services but the only problem is Emirates only really fly to one City in Bangladesh and that’s Dhaka so many of them have to fly Emirates Dubai and connect with Fly Dubai or fly Dhaka then catch a flight with Biman to Sylhet, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar ect... Many of them want to see a direct link between Bangladesh and Birmingham because it saves travel to Heathrow and having to take multiple flights with after coming off a Long flight Emirates. I know Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways and Air India from also have direct connections to Bangladesh from Birmingham but I don’t know how they fair to be honest. I know some of them have been on Air India and have enjoyed it but they don’t like the fact they have to take 2 connections one in Delhi then the second in Kolkata getting off and catching a flight from Kolkata to Dhaka. As I said a Dhaka route would Benefit Birmingham and let’s just hope they start whenever possible with or without JFK

The people who designed Birmingham Airport what where you thinking I know you have little land but still

The problem with the A340-600 is it's wheelbase (distance between the nosewheel and main gear) and therefore it's turning circle. BHX's taxiways are built to ICAO standards, including turn radii. It's the A340-600 that doesn't comply. For BHX to spend money on upgrading taxiways to accomdate an aircraft type it's unlikely to see on a regular service doesn't make sense.
I've read that the A350-1000 may also fall outside of the ICAO specifications. If that is correct, and BHX were to have the opportunity of regular services from this aircraft type then I'm sure the mangement team would consider changes to the taxiways.

Are there many connections through the likes of Emirates?

These are all from a quick look at Skyscanner without going to in depth.

Emirates have connections with the best looking at between 1-2 hours in DXB for both journeys.

Turkish are very similar with 1h 45 in IST outbound and 2hr return.

Qatar have good connections on QR36 (out) and QR33 (in), the other days are quite a bit longer.

A certain low cost airline that's taking over from Vueling on most of the continent?

As much as I love Emirates their connection times when flying to Kolkata is absolutely awful the moment you get off EK40 in Dubai your bussed to the A or B Gates of Terminal 3 and the Kolkata Flight EK570 is almost always put at C gates so you have and the saddest thing is your given a 45 MIN -1 HOUR to make the connection so you have to run from the A or B gates all the way to the C gates. The worst is by the time you get to the C gates with your 50 Million bags of World Duty Free Shopping and Hand Luggage Your flight is on Final Call and full so the moment you board everyone gives you that guilty stare for delaying the flight and even worse everyone has taken the overhead locker spaces so your forced to sit in your seat with covered with 50 Million World Duty Free Bags and some how managing to find a place to put your Hand Luggage. The great thing is Thank You Emirates for always delaying EK570 for us so at least I make it Kolkata on time and not having to worry about missing my flight. o_O
