Not been to the airport for a few weeks, how is the new T1 temporary car park progressing?

My apologies for the delay in replying however I now have the relevant document to hand.

In the report of the Chief Operating Officer to the Manchester Airport Consultative Committee on Friday 19th July it as stated that "Two new levels are being added to the Terminal 1 Arrivals Car Park, adding 238 new spaces so 550 spaces will be available. The re-modelled Car Park will open later this summer".

I trust that helps, even if a specific date has not been given.

Back to the matter of the new T1 car park. I was talking to a Meet & Great car park marshall today who advised that Level 13 of the multi-storey car is due to be handed back for public use on 3rd September. From that date the M&G parking moves to the new mini multi-storey.
How true that all is I don't know but time will tell.

Yes, I believe it is true. They leave on 23rd September. Due yesterday was Singapore AF A330-243 MRTT. This is the last planned visitor and is the 315th aircraft that Air Livery have worked on.

RIP

Thanks for that update @Scottie Dog I wasn't aware. They have been a source of many visitors over the years. It will be sad to see them go.

You have a good memory!! Yes now that I think about it you are correct on having seen a rumour, but I haven't heard anything definite. Time will tell if there's any truth.

I know I've probably asked this before, once the T2X and pier 2 are open next summer, can we expect a full migration of jet 2 flights or movements of some other airlines? Are there any plans existing or a timeline as to when certain airlines move? With the exception of easyJet and ryanair, should we eventually see all other airlines in T2?

The last conversation I had, with 'an informed person', gave the comment that Jet2 would not fully move over for another couple of years. I believe that it is more likely that Air France and KLM are the airlines that the airport would like to see moving as that would free up space at T3.

The biggest imminent problem, as I have mentioned before, are that whilst T2X will open the airport loses the capacity of T2 whilst that is being modernised. The fully functional and combined terminals are scheduled to reopen in 2022 - that is the time when a larger number of carriers will make the final move.

As I always say, this is not an official statement and is based on what I have heard and the timescales already published by Manchester Airport.

Yes, would definitely make sense ref AF/KLM to give a little relief (at times) to T3. However, as BE codeshare with AF and of course the impending takeover completion by VS, can we expect (or hope) of BE moving over too...

That depends on 2 things. Firstly, and very obviously the tie up with Virgin but secondly, and more importantly, the provision of a domestic passenger facility within T2/T2X. If the domestic facility stays in T1 then, if BE were to park remotely at T2X, passengers would need to be bussed and nothing is gained - if anything the passenger experience will be worse.

Also think about the lack of apron space around T2X? Where would you put the flybe aircraft. So, we are back to the date of around 2022.

By next summer there will possibly only be a very few stands in use for boarding dir3ctly from the old T2 frontage. I suspect that the west apron may have gone but we will gain the new Lima remote stands.

I'm hopeful that @marni1971 will join in on this discussion as I believe he may have some useful input.

Indeed...a domestic facility would be good, maybe i’m Jumping the gun a little without thinking logically and at the same time being selfish because I would like to use T2 more but usually travel from T1 & T3.
Can you please remind me where Lima is? Am I right in thinking of the apron under construction now behind pier 1?

I think the biggest unknown (almost) is what pier comes next. If pier two is built next then presumably most if not all the legacy contact gates on T2 will remain available. This would make sense, since pier two can open with it’s available space and then the legacy gates close for the final pier construction.

Also worth noting that the original (approved) T2X plans had a domestic element.

You'll find Lima remotes on the screenshot below - in orange on the left-hand side and referred to as P1 Remote stands and Taxiway Zulu.

At the end of December there will be the first stage of renaming taxiways. What is currently Zulu will, in due course, become Lima.
