Well maybe Tunis has given them some faith, in June the first complete month of operation there were 8 rotations and 1,174 pax flew the route giving and average of 146 pax per sector. I know there was some variety in equipment in the early days but a little research shows the has 180 seats so and LF of 82% isn't a bad start but obviously they will want it to be over 90%.

Are they going "to have a go" at Jet2 in there own "back garden"?

I think it is highly unlikely but all sorts of strange things happen in aviation.
I don't think it's a case of have a go at them but provide another option for passengers. They might bring new routes and extra capacity on other's.

I`d take it with a very large pinch of salt. Thomas Cook is still on the ropes, its final ownership is still unknown. The banks and creditors are supposed to be the new `owners` of the airline, if so will be very cautious going forward. Whilst everything is still to play for of course, stories like this can have little credibility right now.

Could it just be that TC have struck a deal with TUI to base an A321 at LBA to operate on behalf of both, or even for other operators too. It would be good to see extra competition but I do tend to agree we need to take this rumour with a very large pinch of salt as I don't see TC giving it a go entirely in their own right

Fosun have made a bid for TC which will mean them giving up the ownership of the airline and one would imagine expanding their Club Med brand.
IN under 2 years of Club Med ownership they have achieved 60% customer pay loads from the far East and China and intend to grow this figure. Now regulations on Chinese travel have been relaxed, China has become the real growth tourist market and Fosun are the market leaders.
Outside Club Med its hard to see how LBA fits in their plans.

In addition to getting a reported £450m from Fosun for their Tours Operation I see that they are now looking for £150m to keep the airline afloat during the winter as per the posting jfy1999 made in the airline forum.

None of this says new bases to me or am I just an old fashioned realist?

As one old fashioned realist to another...If they have to issue statements of need of this magnitude, then they`ll be lucky to keep any base, let alone new ones. The really realist in me though says he wouldn`t book a taxi with them let alone a holiday. Share price now below 8p!!

Whilst I agree with that comment in principle we need to look at overall competition. Does LBA possess a market that has less competition than say STN. So if they cannot economically remove an A321 from their fleet altogether then it may as well be redeployed elsewhere. And if they have A N other operator, or two, that may share the load then there may be truth in it. There is a real chance there may be no TC at all this time next year, but equally they need to revisit their current business plan to survive

This might sound a daft question but why is all this being discussed on an LBA thread? Thomas Cook have nothing to do with LBA, and certainly won't once they have gone to the wall.
Good question Bigman....... schadenfreude maybe:LOL:

Moved to the main thread for Thomas Cook in the Airline Forum.

Why was it being discussed on here, well because actually I think you'll find Thomas Cook Group still offer holidays from Leeds/Bradford Airport.

This summer they took seats on Tui operated flights to Palma, Corfu and offered there own service to Enfidha using Nouvel Air Tunis.
Last year they had there own flights to Antalaya, Dalaman and Air Europa to Palma. In pervouis years they took allocations on LBA routes operated by Jet2. Before that they even had a 1 Aircraft base here with rumours of a return in the pipeline.

They still have an interest for LBA as the Airline is due to operate 3x charter breaks up to Lapland again this coming December. I wonder who will operate theses flights if they go bust?
Clearly you not bothered if they go to wall, so better not answer me last question seen as we now not allowed to talk about this LBA operator...

Even worse than me trying to get a number 27 home last night, or was that a similar situation for you? I do think though that more general stuff about the company finances/survival etc should be on a general airline thread as opposed to an airport specific thread.

Nah, it was bad enough I ended up at LGI hospital on Monday requiring an x-ray for a badly sprained ankle. Swelling was that bad I thought it was broken.

I can't currently walk without aid of crutches, so laid up at home resting, watching daytime TV and loads of Chinooks flying over the house.

In any case the future of Thomas Cook is of national and international interest so the discussion about its future is best placed in our Airline Forum. It's only a click or two away so no need to stress over it.
