Disappointed to report that on our return from ALC on Thursday afternoon that after being delayed due to Jet2 doing a tail swap with the MAN incoming flight that, even though we made up quite a bit of time on the return flight we still arrived 20 minutes late at LBA along with other arriving flights which meant there was the usual scramble in the dungeon around the luggage belts and the inevitable slow delivery of our bags from our 757. It took an hour from landing to get our bags and exit the terminal.

The sooner the new arrivals terminal is built the better because if this is typical at the end of September I dread to think what is must be like in the height of summer. Not a good advert for LBA I'm afraid.

Currently waiting for flight ls229 to Palma, first experience if leeds used to visit as a kid to watch planes into he really old open cafe that over looked the apron, my its changed the terminal/gates are ok I like it spacious plenty of seats. Used jet2 twighlight service so didnt have to mess about with the bag drop. Security is a pure joke so glad I booked us on fast track with a 3 and 8 year old. People were still in the massive que that was back to the main entrance for normal security whos flights were leaving within 30 mins all in all pleasent experience so far not had any of the horror storys I've heard about the terminal.

Early morning at security is an absolute joke...
Tell me about it, I had my bag and belongings go down one belt and security took my shoes away and put them down another belt god knows where! So by time I found my shoes I'd then lost my bag and belongings! Thought it was suppose to be security! Lol also makes me laugh how when I flew last Sunday how everyone has to go through one single body scanner,so you get everyone trying to get into one qué! I timed my time passing security at 50mins.

Had the same issues ourselves on a recent flight to Faro, the current terminal is no longer fit for purpose, people complaiing about the massive queues at security and others begining to panic as their flights were due to depart shortly. Took one hour to get through on the early morning rush with the queue stretching back to nearly to the Jet2 check in hall. Just not good enough if we all want this airport to be a commercial success. I just wonder how many passengers we are losing as a result of this, heard people saying we will not use LBA again, yet we still wait for the commencment of the new terminal. I don't want to be cynical but the longer this delay goes on one wonders if it will ever happen.

To be fair security queues aren't unique to LBA. The last two times I have flown from MAN the queues have been beyond ridiculous over an hour and a half to get through and then only because they were calling out flight times so people could jump the queue and run to catch their flights.

50 minutes - that's how long the Flying Tiger 747 took to get from LBA to Leeds City Centre on Saturday afternoon. Is this service not marketed as a semi-express ?

Totally agree, recently at Luton and you could only go through security in flight boarding time order and they called out flight numbers, departure hall jammed with passengers, unable to go though security, because we need special assistance we had to sit for just under two hours in the departure area and then taken straight to the gate, no visit to bars, shopping, duty free etc, only a toilet stop.
No one allowed through security before 60 minutes to take off, even though some planes had a go to gate message on the board, people hungry, thirsty, etc and no seats in the booking hall and on the day we were their an ATC issue and planes running late and these passengers were not allowed through security.
My son now uses LBA instead of Manchester due to the time taken to get through security with young children at Man.

Came back through lba today on ls258 parked at stand 8 I believe? With the air bridge we were the only flight in so straight through passport control, passport control is not the biggest. I have to say the baggage reclaim area is very small, yes theres 4 belts but there not the biggest I can only imagine it been pure chaos if you get 2 or 3 flights in at the same time. I'm not sure what was going on with luggage or if the airport has limited baggage karts but about 20/30 cases came in and we were told to sit tight they'd gone back to the aircraft for more bags would be 10 mins before more arrived. Overall I was impressed with lba apart from security on our outbound flight I will defo use it again living only 20 mins away, so much easier than a long drive back from manchester which is the airport I often use

I'm just pricing up a overnight trip to Amsterdam in Wednesday, May 20th to Thursday, May 21st,2020. I can't believe that going British Airways via London Heathrow comes a cheaper option than flying direct from Leeds/Bradford with KLM.

How about outbound KLM and inbound Jet2? Seems to be the best value and no forced extra night in Holland.

To me as someone who actually likes traveling, that’s a no brainer! 4 flights for cheaper than 2, great (as long as you can afford the extra time). A similar thing happened to us a few years ago on a “spotting” trip to Frankfurt from Manchester. FLYBE pulled the Frankfurt flights beforehand, & our options were money back or go via Southampton instead. We took the 4 flights option & had a nice 2 hr lunch at Southampton, an airport that up to that point I’d never visited, so that made the trip all the more enjoyable for me.

Never thought of the flybe option via Southampton. Out of interest I'll have to have a look now

You have to remember that with KLM their priority is to fill the plane with connecting passengers hence why they can be quite expensive from the regions on direct flights.

After using LGW and TPA in the last 2 weeks it’s blatantly obvious how slow the security is at LBA....an absolute breeze at the airports mentioned even at peak times.....
It is likely both those airports will have technology far superior to that used at Leeds Bradford. The layout of the terminal at Leeds doesn't help either.

No...they have the right amount of lanes and staff to cope with numbers.
The equipment can dictate the number of manual checks an airport has to do which is why people appear to just sail through at some airports. What a passenger sees can be very different from what is actually taking place to ensure the safety inside the Critical Part. Also here in the UK and currently within the EU, the rules governing the security process will be very different from those at TPA. All of which must meet the minimum standard set by ICAO.

Indeed, unfortunately the layout won't be sorted until they build the new terminal extension. In the meantime tho staffing seems to be an issue and there are rarely more than 3 lanes open and more usually just 2.

I haven't noted any difference in speed of scanning bags at LBA compared to other UK airports, and I don't see LBA does secondaries any more that others so I don't accept the equipment is somehow letting the side down - for reference MAN is the worst by a mile for doing secondaries btw. My experience at UK airports I would say is reasonably extensive.

At some point one has to stop making excuses for the airport and acknowledge things are not right and need fixing.

Btw yet again the jetbridge on stand 8 is broken, has been for the last 2/3 weeks now.

And also the double doors opposite the information desk are now partially locked out so the inner on one side works and the outer on the other side works leading to passengers having to zig zag through the narrow space between the two sets of doors when entering the terminal. What must people think when they see this on arrival?
