Wizz Air at Liverpool - Winter 2020/21

The number of weekly flights scheduled this winter has been increased from 18 to 24 over the last number of days (since the announcement of new routes to CLJ & KIV).

Changes include WAW seeing an extra weekly flight (2>3x weekly) but OTP losing a weekly flight (3>2x weekly, however it will be 3x weekly around the Christmas period).
IAS has been re-instated at 2x weekly having previously been removed from the winter schedule, and there are two new routes to CLJ and KIV both at 2x weekly.

11x destinations will now be served from LPL and below is a list of weekly departures taken from a week in November:

3x weekly
GDN
WAW
(+1)

2x weekly
BCM
BUD
CLJ (+2) - NEW
IAS (+2) - re-instated
KIV (+2) - NEW

Thanks for doing that analysis , and map as I must admit some of the destinations I really wasn't sure where they were exactly, without looking them up.

Some of the routes Wizz are doing were served by Blue Air. They themselves now only have a Bucharest service, i wonder if Blue will be squeezed out completely .

Hope for the airport they aren't however it's highly likely, the small players don't stand much chance.

We all hope to be able to get away on holiday later this year and Wizz Air have announced twice weekly departures to Bourgas in Bulgaria, the gateway to a host of Black Sea holiday resorts. Flights start on 11 June 2021 and will be Wizz Air’s 12th route from Liverpool.

With the previous rumours of a Manchester base it's good to see that they are still committed to Liverpool. Do they operate Varna as well?

This being their 12th new route from Liverpool and the fact Wizz have moved away from the Manchester idea must be a boost for Liverpool Airport. So they are now serving both Black Sea resorts, hopefully they will look at other destinations and establish a base. Easyjet have not shown much creativity from Liverpool for sometime so frankly Wizz has plenty of destinations they could plumb for. Of course Ryanair who are still 4 aircraft based and EasyJet which is reduced to 6 I think, may well react, however I don't feel Wizz would be intimated by them as their base at Luton illustrates.

With respect, Liverpool should still be EXTREMELY worried that Wizzair is even thinking about Manchester having rebutted the idea for numerous years. It's not like Wizzair have come out and stated that the 4 A321s that were earmarked for Manchester will now be used in Liverpool, After all, easyJet did the same thing in ignoring Manchester and now look at the position regaeding the base sizes. My thinking is Wizzair have decided to postpone plans for a year or 2 only.

I think we need to remember that with WizzAir we are now talking about 2 airline's with their own strategies within the group.
WizzAir Europe and WizzAir UK.
WizzAir UK does seem to want to take on Easyjet hence the rumours of them wanting to base at strong Easyjet bases like Manchester and Edinburgh and Gatwick.

What we dont know is if Liverpool have set up a deal with Wizz UK in combination with normal Wizz . I think its highly unlikely that one would operate from Liverpool and one from Manchester. Wizz opens another route from Liverpool last autumn, Varna was not much before that and now Bourgas. They clearly have a good working relationship with Liverpool.
