Interesting line.
"We have worked closely with Cardiff Airport to deliver this new route, made possible by the necessary incentives to secure connectivity as airlines and airports recover from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic."
Last winter Ryanair did say they would look favourably on airports that came forward with good incentives as the industry began to fight its way out of the pandemic effects. It seems that the CWL senior management and owners have taken heed. It remains to be seen whether other routes will also be incentivised to Ryanair's liking (or any other airline for that matter).

I can't remember Ryanair or anyone else being so publicly explicit about a route being possible because of incentives. Perhaps it's a way of encouraging other airports.

It's good news for CWL users whichever way the route was secured.

Oh yes however they secured the route it is very good news, especially as it's Ryanair. I suppose we can only keep our fingers crossed that it's part of some sort of deal which will deliver more routes especially for Summer 2022 to help the airport recover lost passengers.
Bit of press coverage of the route as well now.

Some very reasonable return fares pre-Christmas for those wanting a winter city break and enjoy the Christmas spirit with Irish charm!

I have always loved Dublin. I have been many times in the past, all but once with Ryanair. It’s so good to see this staple route back at CWL with a reliable, low cost business and leisure friendly airline.

Long may it fly!

Here's a question. Is waiving fees paying an airline?

No. Its a discount with revenue likely to be earned from increased passenger footfall.
Paying an Airline is project blackbird.

Tories not happy about the 'incentives' they're assuming cash is involved and I partly wonder if Ryanair put the word incentive in knowing it might get the route a bit extra publicity!

I wish the Tories would make their mind up. Last week they were moaning about not enough traffic flying in and out!

Hello Em. Good to see you still around F4A.

It's the nature of party politics of course. Teesside Airport is run by the elected regional mayor who is a Conservative and the Labour opposition criticise the way that airport is run.

Foxlimayankee is correct when it comes to incentives, not opposition politicians.

I noticed during the booking process that the airport parking Ryanair offer isn't the actual airports parking but the Highwayman pub parking.
Is that a better or worse option?

I suppose it depends if you mind a shuttle ride to the airport or not. They are the other side of the airport by crash Gate 2 where i usually film my videos. They do advertise it as offsite parking so not close to the terminal parking. Personally i do think it's good that that they are supporting a local company.

Are the onsite car parks all within walking distance of the terminal or are shuttle buses provided within the airport site to access them?

Yep I believe they're in walking distance. The airport used to operate an offsite one which had a shuttle bus but it's shut now.

Hopefully the new Dublin route with Ryanair will also encourage Irish tourism into Wales as well as Welsh tourism into Ireland.

Are there any figures showing how the Welsh tourism industry benefited in this way when Flybe flew the route, I think up to three times a day?

Not that i know of. The airport did say that previously about 25% of it's passenger numbers were visitors from abroad. Whether citizens from Ireland were included in that because of the CTA i don't know as at Cardiff they don't go through passport control. People from Ireland no doubt used Flybe but the amount of Irish tourists i've not seen statistics about. Inbound Scottish and Irish tourism never really seems to be mentioned.

I know this isn't about Cardiff specifically but it's interesting in what Ryanair have said about both Belfast airports, ''the lack of Covid recovery incentives from both Belfast airports'' compared to ''made possible by the necessary incentives'' when it came to the new Dublin route for Cardiff.
