Do we know what time the Dreamliner one is departing

Sorry dan9999 the 788 did a local flight check at BHX this morning I could have sworn when I checked earlier it was on the NCL run. The second 737 of the day due to depart BHX at 1500, don't know if they actually land before they return.

The recently reported problems that affected 106 of the 737 MAX aircraft that were grounded due to a potential production fault have been identified by FR24 and TUI UK own 5 of them which must be put right before they enter service. The aircraft concerned and where they are parked are reported as follows;

TUI - Boeing 737-8 MAX - Thu 10 June 2021

Today B38M G-TUMG operated MAN-ACE-MAN as BY2468/9.
I believe this is the first commercial MAX flight by TUI UK since the fleet was grounded back in March 2019.
Another MAN based MAX did a circuit a few days ago however the rest of the fleet are all "stored" (haven't flown since March/April).

The fleet is now up to 11x aircraft with the latest addition G-TUMR arriving in LGW a couple of days ago on Tuesday 8th June. Five more aircraft are due soon - 2x from TUI Nordic, 2x from TUI Germany and another TUI UK delivery.

The MAX fleet are currently based as follows:
MAN x5
LGW x4
BHX x1
BRS x1

Is that not TUI's four biggest UK bases?

TUI Group is determined to take all possible measures to reduce costs as much as possible and the latest announced is the unification of its five airlines: TUI Airways (United Kingdom), TUI Fly (Germany), TUI Fly Belgium (Belgium), TUI Fly Netherlands (Netherlands) and TUI Fly Nordic (Scandinavia).

According to the German newspaper Handelsblatt, in the future, the airlines will be managed by a joint management team.

TUI UK will be retiring the last B757-200s next month. Most of them are believed to be converted to Freighters for DHL

Sad day if true the 757 was a top performer for them in terms of capacity, performance, reliability, safety and at it's peak economics a real workhorse for the likes of TUI, TCX, Air 2000, First Choice Air Europe, Monarch etc not to mention BA.and other flag/legacy carriers around the world.

Boeing surely must regret not developing it further to extend its life given the problems with the Max although I accept 20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Have just e-mailed their Press Office to float the idea of a farewell flight (Covid safe, of course).

Will let you know when I get a reply, whatever it is.

I think Boeing thought the market could be covered by the MAX. For airlines that needed more capacity than a standard 737, the MAX10 has a max limit of 230 vs 239 for the 757-200. The -300 variant only saw service from 3 airlines, all 3 of which also had the 767 in their fleets. The problem with the MAX10 is the reduced range compared to the base models and the A321NEO models, meaning it struggles on many TATL routes that the 757 was commonplace on.

What Boeing didn't count on was how successful the A321NEO and its variations would be.

To (belatedly) counter that they started work on the NMA (new midsize airplane), but then had the problems with the MAX groundings, the 777X and then Covid, so its ended up on the back burner for now.

The A320NEO family has sold 60% more units than the B737MAX family. Will be interesting to see in what direction aircraft manufacturers go in the next decade.

Airbus has a pretty solid line up now where the only tweak needed would maybe be an A350NEO in the latter half of the decade.

Boeing has lost market share of the narrow body market because of the 737MAX, and for airlines that want more capacity than a 737, but not as much as a 787, the only option is to go to Airbus at the moment.

An update

Just received reply form TUI Press Office. Whilst they are planning to recognise the aircraft, the answer is no to a farewell flight for colleagues, partners and enthusiasts.

It was worth a try! (Still waiting for response from Jet2)

The last 757 flight is planned to be on October 3rd. They will operate London Gatwick- Heraklion as TOM 4706/7 and back to LGW. It will be operated by G-OOBP.

G-OOBB- last flight today doing MAN-JSI-LGW- Due to be converted to freighter.
G-OOBN- Last Flight on Sept 30th LGW-EFL-BHX- This will be flown to DGX on 1st Oct 9am from LGW.
G-OOBP last flight on October 3rd LGW-HER-LGW- This will be flown to DGX in 13th Oct from LGW

G-OOBA is already at BHX being converted to a freighter.

It seems that TUIs B767-300s days are also numbered. B763 G-OBYG is planned to be retired in November.

It’s last flight is planned to be MAN-AYT-MAN on 1st November and then will be flown from MAN to DGX on the 5th Nov.

TUI still plan on keeping 2 767s for next year but this is subject to change. So I wonder which two out of G-OBYK, F, H will stay on for next year and which other one will join G.

Looking at the registrations they all appear to be former First Choice aircraft that joined the TUI fleet as pert of the merger in 2007 between TUI-owned Thomson and First Choice Holidays to create TUI Travel.

I think the 4 Sunwing B738's will be based at ABZ, BFS, NWI and maybe BHX?

The A320's and A321's presumably will be leased from Smartlynx

2 B737 Max's dont yet appeared to be allocated anywhere, maybe spare aircraft, or allocate to another TUI airline?
