The Emerald eventually diverted to Manchester after holding for 1 hour 20 minutes.
The Ryanair hung around until the weather cleared and landed
The Phenom held for 30 minutes until the weather cleared and also landed
Hopefully Emerald will position back to Leeds with passengers

There have been problems all day with Swissport being desperately short of staff. The Aer Lingus Dublin was sat on the ground for over 2 hours, KLM Amsterdam 2 and a half hours on the ground. Most Ryanair flights were around 1 to 2 hours delayed. It was chaos. The tower was bombarded with calls from aircraft on the ground who could not get in touch with Swissport by radio or phone to find out what on earth was happening.

Apparently they only had 3 people in total to deal with all flights

Thats really bad. Do we know if the issues reported at Manchester with check in and baggage reclaim impacted on aircraft turn around timings? And let's hope the media dont get hold of this..

On a more positive note it looks pretty smooth this morning - I have to say these kind of things were reminiscent of my trip to BER before Christmas - chaotic checkin queues - well over an hour - 3 people serving 2x LS 738s - normally its 5-6 on a tight 2 hour check in, security was a joke and snails pace (the queue wasn't so bad but the pace was painful) and the time to de ice was equally as slow meaning the flight already delayed was on the ground far longer than it needed to be. Fortunately the captain put his foot down!

But this was nothing to do with security - or LBA. Entirely down to Swissport staffing shortages for whatever reason.

This mornings KL seems to have picked up a hefty delay - just heard it take off! Looks like its northing to do with Swissport as flight aware reporting lots of delays at AMS!

I was on this flight with various family members. The cockpit announcement was that due to an unfavourable wind direction only two runways were available at Schiphol, one for take off, the other for landing, and hence the delay. Elsewhere the problem was attributed to runway maintenance. The consequence for us was missed connection to SXM, a day finding things to do in Amsterdam (not hard), returning to Schiphol and horrific security queues then evening flight to Paris then flight tomorrow fro CDG to SXM, arriving 25 hours late, hopefully not longer. This is by no means the first missed connection I’ve had at AMS and more weather related problems there than at LBA.. I think in future I will be much more wary of short connections, especially on a route which only operates three times weekly.

Did KLM cover the cost of your overnight?

As long as costs you incurred are reasonable I'm sure you are safe with KLM. I know you would have preferred to be in St Maarten but a day out in Amsterdam isn't a bad alternative. Have a great time in St Maarten. Might try it myself- any recommendations for hotels?

On the off chance your intrested in aeroplanes how about the Sonesta Ocean Resort its practically on Maho beach and less than 500 metres from the runway threshold where you can watch idiots (usually Americans) trying to hang on to the fence before getting blown across the road and beach into the sea.

I've been to Sint Martin on a cruise but couldn't convince my other half that our day should be spent there, always regretted it!
