No no I didn't take it as an aim at me. It was my opinion as to why LPL was a shock. But like you say they must have the finger of the pulse in terms of what's coming up. I suspect a couple other airlines may go under this next year like flyr.

As for easyJet in LPL. They offer something Jet2 done - the connection to Belfast & Isle of Man flights are
just as busy as for example London - Dubai/New York. If easyJet pulled Liverpool would be lucky to have those flights replaced. Jet2 wouldn't and I don't think Ryanair would have the same pull as easyJet on Belfast and Isle of Man flights.

Runway isn't the best. However I'm reading easyJet will be the ones to move first on this to protect and fight off Jet2. Jet2 would probably rather have London Gatwick providing they can get their dual operations up and running. Mind you they are fighting the green cult. And they are just narrow minded bigots.

When I say overspill what I mean is I'll set the example. 2 extra aircraft. They can only base 1 in Manchester but want to add to other routes (Palma etc). They also want to add another destination or two and also increase frequencies to other more niche routes. Do they give it to Alicante/ Palma/ Dalaman/Canaries/? Or add frequencies nicher routes and new routes whilst sending the Alicante/Palma etc stuff over to Liverpool?

Bear in mind - Manchester to Palma is like 30 times weekly. Manchester Tenerife 15 weekly.
Yes, also hearing that EZY will be the ones taking up residence (in whatever capacity) at SOU once the runway is complete

I think that’s quite unfair.

A lot of the people championing LPL on there (and elsewhere) also believe that LPL should have a load of long-haul destinations on its departure boards. Airline economics indeed.

Whenever there is a rumour of a jet2 base, literally every airport is sold as a possible on there. In many cases those people got lucky with their guess quite frankly, obviously the source on here was correct but that is not the point here as most of the other posts were guesses based on simply the fact that the airport wasn’t served by Jet2 (which is correct) and that the market is large (also correct), but there are other large markets that Jet2 are going to try to get into in the next couple of years.

I’ll say it again, there are a lot of people on the coal face that were caught by complete surprise by this news. STN, BHX and BRS were not a surprise, nor was GLA when it was announced. It is great news, and Jet2 Liverpool has always had a ring to it but they have remained away from LPL for many years now for reasons that I and others have outlined so it is not in anyway based on misinformed opinion or lack of understanding of ‘airline economics’.

Truth is LPL is and always will be overshadowed by MAN due very much to the fact that it is a major airport, granted it is in the largest aviation market in the U.K. outside of London, but still the actual catchment area for MAN is the entire M62 corridor and that provides the critical mass required to sustain a wide range of global destinations.

What is clear now for Jet2 is that they are preparing to solidify their position as the leading U.K. tour operator, it is excellent news for Liverpool and excellent news for Jet2. It may, however come at a cost of other services from LPL.

Its not unfair, you can read the bullying posts from the MAN fan boys on P, it's quite unpleasant at times. I am not referring to Jet2 posts particularly.

I think you have a rather undue bee in your bonnet regarding MAN and ‘MAN fanboys’ as you put it.

PPrune, and many forums really, are just a dumpster fire at the moment and it’s not down to just a single enclave of people. There just seems to be a rather lot of nastiness about at the moment and let’s not pretend LPL and it’s ‘fans’ are some victims here, you guys also give as good as it gets sometimes, the LPL thread on SkyscraperCity in particular is rather shocking. I get that there is frustration sometimes and you may not like some peoples opinions but there are some downright nasty things said by LPL posters on there at the moment and many of it is completely unjustified to be honest.

Maybe the lesson here is ‘let’s just be nice to each other’. After all, we are all here because we enjoy the same hobby. If you don’t like what someone writes, either respond the the argument directly or move on. Some of the insults lately highlight how toxic many forums have become. And like I say, LPL posters are no angels in that regards either.

I imagine the planning for an airline service launch is done over many weeks.

I'd say so, and after Eurovision too, or the announcement would be in danger of getting lost.
They have been in conversation with Jet2 for many years, finally its happened.

Now it remains to be seen if Easyjet rise to the challenge or get the hump. They have not been particularly pro active in recent times, albeit they have have increased their base this year.

They will all do exceptionally well. Believe management are being inundated with base transfer requests, there’s a lot to be said for car parking being a few hundred metres walk from the crew room as opposed to (in some cases) a bus ride or much longer walk away.

From what Ive seen elsewhere, Jet2 have a history of growing the bases they open. This is good news for Liverpool, as Easyjet and to a lesser extend Ryanair have a habit of moving established routes down the road, which is not helpful . It will be interesting if Jet2 actually overtakes the incumbents .

Jet2 already have an advertisment in passport control i noticed this evening.

If thier BHX launch is anything to go by expect much, much more. You couldn't turn a corner in Central Birmingham without seeing a Jet2 or Jet2 Holidays advert 😄

Fabulous news for LPL, it will be great to watch the base grow over the coming years (y)

We can see what Jet2 are upto in that the A321 fleet and soon to be ordered by sound of it A330 will gradually push the 737s out of MAN/LBA/BHX/STN on many routes and they will cascade down
