View media item 3782Tatton Park Japanese Garden by David_itl, hosted on Forums4airports.com

Taken on one of the special guided tours of the Japanese Garden, Tatton Hall in Tatton Park near to Manchester Airport. The building is the Tea Room and the statue is of one of a pair of cranes.

I've visited Tatton Park a couple of times with the family and I've never seen or noticed the Japanese Garden. It looks beautiful. I'm partial to the odd bit of gardening so I'd probably enjoy walking around there if we go again. Where about is this garden in relation to what's there?

When you get to the ticket office for the gardens, you need to ask for the Japanese Garden Tour - costs around £1.50 extra but it's only 2 days a week (Saturdays and Wednesdays off the top of my head) and only 2 tours (1pm & 2pm). All they tell you is to be by the African Hut by that time and the guide will pick take you there. Takes roughly an hour or so to go round that bit of the garden.

If you want to skirt round it but not go into then it's down the main roadway, turn right at the African Hut and keep taking the left turns. You'll get the the general view but it's worthwhile paying that bit extra to get a potted history of it and the reasoning behind the garden design. It's one of the oldest Japanese gardens in the UK and they say it best to get once in each season so you can see how much it varies.

That's just one of the photos from my album https://www.flickr.com/photos/dkmcr/albums/72157653351478590; it's only in the last couple of years that I've started to get some semi decent results from my expeditions (always meticulously planned as I don't drive!) .
