I'm not sure if it beats the Manchester launch, can't remember that far back.

Thing is, it's pointless comparing the 2, as Manchester was launched in a completely different era for the company. I'm just happy there is growth all round to be honest.

I think it possibly does. I think it may have been 6 aircraft but the 300 series, not the 800 series.

Well, to be honest, even if it does beat Manchester, it's not an issue, as it's about where the airline is now, not where it started years ago.

It's a bit like when Dubliners claimed that DUB was Emirates most successful launch due to how quickly they went 2 daily (claiming it was better than MAN's launch, not sure why they singled MAN out?), but it's worth remembering MAN was launched when EK was a completely different airline it is today, and only had a handful of aircraft. It also doesn't alter the fact DUB has remained 2 daily B777 but MAN will soon be 3 daily A380). Slightly off topic I know, but illustrates my point that it's not how you arrived, but where you are now.

The thing is, MAN can take heart in knowing it will be the airlines first base for their widebody expansion. That's a nice accolade to have, and as STN is a MAG airport, I wish them well!

The only reason I mentioned it was because it is part of the MAG group not for any other reason. Stansted was always going to be the natural starting point for a launch into the Southeast. The airline is largely unknown in the Southeast region so they will need some good media exposure and advertising. Jet2 is especially good at that though so I thoroughly expect them to do well.

Unlikely BrumX.

There is still more growth at MAN planned for S17 over STN.

Where STN looked likely to overtake MAN was winter past where STN's growth for that season was higher. However S16/W16 and S17 growth is now higher for MAN.

Has Ryanair made any adjustmnents to STN after the Jet2 announcement, i cant see them just sitting back and doing nothing. There may be further growth plans ahead in the next couple of months for them at STN.

No plans put forward yet, but, they have known Jet2 were coming for a few weeks and likely routes, so, we would have seen movement by now.

MAN will remain 3rd largest for the foreseeable yet......

Impressive start! Notice no weekend city break routes all med and canary sun routes. Ryanair's reaction will be interesting to see. Good luck to them and I hope we'll see them at other smaller UK airports in S18!

I agree, definitely, there could be a lot more growth to come yet for MAN. Even if STN surpasses MAN which is extremely unlikely, MAG will still hold the 3rd and 4th spots and MAN will still be the busiest airport outside of London by far and that is an accolade in itself. The traffic at STN is also almost completely LCC, so no real diversity or premium pax whatsover.
User, you say, 'there is a lot more growth yet at MAN for S17', are you able to give any clues to what this might be (yes, I do realise this is a STN forum but most of the discussion includes MAN anyway).

Jet2 are busy expanding their, now, 3rd largest base (we know it was coming) for Summer 18:

AYT - 2pw to 4pw
BJV - 2pw to 3pw
DLM - 2pw to 3pw
DBV - 3pw to 4pw
GRO - 2pw to 3pw
LPA - 3pw to 4pw
MAH - 4pw to 5pw
PFO - 4pw to 5pw
VRN - 1pw to 2pw

New routes:
MLA - 2 weekly
NAP - 3 weekly
NCE - 6 weekly

140 weekly departures. LBA is 178 and MAN 210.
