New Terminal for Leeds Bradford Airport

New Terminal for Leeds Bradford Airport

New Terminal for Leeds Bradford Airport...The Plan

Proposed terminal
Proposed BREEAM standard carbon neautral terminal

  • The new terminal will enable all the latest security provisions required by the CAA (Not achievable with the current building)
  • Enable Disability access requirements to be met. (Not achievable with the current building)
  • The proposed terminal will be BREEAM excellent and Carbon neutral. (Impossible with the current building)
  • The proposed terminal will enable more passengers to use the airport without a corresponding increase in flights as the new terminal can cope with wide body aircraft, with a greater capacity which are also quieter and have lower CO2 emissions.
  • The new terminal will have more seating and space, and holding lounges at gates, enabling more space to be cleared in the main terminal.
  • Pier gates for boarding
  • Public toilet facilities will be significantly larger and more spacious. (Current facilities are cramped and well below par)
  • The new terminal will have significantly greater capacity for baggage reclaim and Border Control, plus the introduction of E Passport technology.
  • Spacious arrivals facility
  • The new terminal is only 0.7 of a mile from the site of the proposed Parkway Station - just 5 minutes travel time.
  • The application is not to extend night time flying. It is to redefine what is a daytime and what is a night time flight so the definition in Leeds is the same as at most other airports. This does not automatically translate into more night flights but gives the airport more flexibility to spread flights more evenly and avoid the daily 7am log jam.
  • The new terminal will enable the airport to attract airlines that currently are reluctant to use LBA due to the terminal inadequacies, particularly benefitting business travellers. Better facilities also means the range of aircraft that can use LBA will be greater.
  • Check-in hall
  • The new terminal will result in a significant increase in the GDP that LBA contributes to the local economy.
  • With the new terminal,. LBA's future is assured. Without it, the future looks like stagnation at best and possibly a gradual loss of traffic and the jobs that go with it.
  • What were the previous plans to extend the current airport terminal?

Already PASSED plans for an arrivals terminal
Exsisting plan already APPROVED to enable the airport to grow

Already PASSED plans for an arrivals terminal

  • Previously PASSED plans were already in place to enable the airport to grow to 7.1 mppa and for a new airport terminal extension. The planned extension could never have been carbon neutral or meet all of today's exacting standards. Construction on that scheme was started but put on hold in favour of a new enhanced scheme to rebuild a new terminal.
