Remember Virgin only own 30% of Flybe. The first priority has to be to turn the business around and for Flybe to become profitable. Feed for Virgin isn't really that big a part of the business - the Flybe presence at Heathrow is too small and can't really grow without the 3rd runway, at Manchester Virgin are too small for any more than a tiny fraction of Flybe passengers to be connecting.
 
Winter 2019 sees increase on Dusseldorf from three to four per day, Southampton up from five to six per day, Isle of Man down from five to
four per day, No Milan Malpensa or Toulouse nor the weekly Innsbruck charter.

Will the direction of travel for the new Virgin Connect business not depend on the deal Virgin had with the other business partners, Stobart et al. Clearly the Virgin business model has played a vital part in the new make-up of the business deal hence the use of the Virgin branding.

Working from the week commencing 15th June it would appear that there are 95 flights per day - using the Monday as the peak day. This equates to 619 flights per week against the ACL Peak Week allocation of 664. Hopefully more to follow.

Unfortunately my laptop battery died as I finished the spreadsheet, a I'll need to double check in the morning but don't forget that an overnight stop in Europe could result in an imbalance due to one more departure on day 1 of my spreadsheet , which could be replicated in other days.

As I say, I'll double check tomorrow.

BHX will have 94 daily flights if DUS is in phase 2 !
 
Okay so a little gremlin crept in last night.

Planned flights per day are as follows:

Monday - 96
Tuesday - 96
Wednesday - 96
Thursday - 96
Friday - 96
Saturday - 67 (CDG shows 4 outbound but only 3 inbound on the Flybe site, but Google flights show 3 outbound).
Sunday - 78
Total - 625

Trouble is, landing slots at LCY are so scarce and highly-prized. Yes, a MAN service would be viable ... but alternative services occupying those LCY peak-time slots are much more profitable. That's why MAN schedules got pushed out at both LCY and LGW (BA) in the first place.

A once daily off-peak schedule to LCY could attract a healthy following. But they could equally go for group favourite Southend. Stobart's three flights daily was perhaps too ambitious too soon, though a lower frequency might have been sustainable (not everybody needs a day return). But I think the death-knell for the original Stobart SEN schedule was the volume of EU261 claims it was racking up due to poor punctuality and frequent cancellations ... you can't make money like that. A once daily Dash 8 (or similar) with reliable punctuality could succeed.

I have heard it is a shuttle service to/from LBA to make it easier for all those Yorkshire folk who think you can only fly from MAN, and not LBA, to certain destinations, to get across the Pennines and thus avoiding the Chris Rea affectionately named M62

LBA will need a separate terminal just for that service!
 
It looks as if the Manchester thread has fallen to sleep a little of recent, or maybe people are less concerned as to what has been going on with Flybe than our friends at other airports.

Subject to Willie Walsh's (IAG) objection being thrown out it would appear that Manchester, together with all the other UK airports, have escaped for the time being. For the period December 2018-November 2019 Manchester handled just under 1.9m domestic passengers - excluding the Heathrow route - and this I believe shows the importance to us of Manchester's connectivity. Much has already been said on the other threads about the high cost of APD when taken as a proportion of a domestic fare and it does seem that the charge has been set too high particularly in this day and age where 'LCC' airlines are able to dominate certain routes where there are high passenger volumes.

Time will tell as to whether Virgin Connect will be able to last beyond the end of 2020. I do hope so as they are vital for the provision of the domestic feed that is necessary to establish Manchester as a UK hub, not just domestically but on the international front as well.

I'm sure that certain of our fellow members will add their views on the subject and I look forward to seeing alternative (or even like-minded) discussion.

My plans got altered slightly as one of the minibus companies had to cancel 3 trips and refunded me but will be getting nice discount when I rebook them.
wondering why on my "holidays" I choose to get up 2 hours earlier than when going to work. 6 trips in 6 days soon coming up with 3 more days to sort out
