Passed through Brum this morning on my way back to Faro.
Seamless through security? Well not quite, my bag was sided onto the check contents line.
And the culprit? Cadbury's drinking chocolate powder....
Cadbury's one of our greatest brand names, and in Brum's airport... How galling!
How the general public react to emergency situations generally dictates how it affects them. And, they are easily motivated by idiots on social media. I have little faith in that changing.
But as a group with special interest in Birmingham Airport I hope we can gain some confidence in how the...
No-one winds on a day like today: holidays, business trips and the general business of the airport disrupted.
But early reports suggest the evacuation and the manner with which the incident occurred, was handled calmly and with professionalism by Birmingham Airport and the mainline emergency...
Thanks all. Realising that security does actually open at 0300 eases matters.
So providing I have checked in online the day before, I should be able to get from security to the KLM gate in two hours...
Now, a cautionary tale for those who take food abroad in hand luggage.
I am often...
A general question about checking in at Birmingham.
On September 16 I am booked on the 6am flight to Amsterdam and then transitting onto the midday flight to Rio de Janeiro.
I am travelling to the airport by train and was thinking of taking the last train arriving at 2330.
The question is...
I understand most things about international trade, but one thing perplexes me about cargo operations at Birmingham.
What on earth fills a 744F from Baku?
Azerbaijan is small in terms of population, about 10 million people, and its main exports are oil and gas. So, there is no way these...
To DaveBham, I have a home in Portugal so I only ever travel light, the proverbial Ryanair 'small bag'.
When I travel to Brasil, yes, then I have hold luggage for my cachaca (again, the home-produced stuff).
Karfa you are quite right. But for me, I was never interested in taking liquids above a litre out of the UK.
Regularly in both Portugal and Italy I am always frustrated that I cannot bring back litre bottles of either home-produced medronho or grappa through security.
There really is no...
As passenger levels rise, it is inevitable that BHX facilities will increase to cope with the demand.
But what about cargo? If I have read things correctly, then cargo-wise, the airport is now much busier than it was. I base this on frequent 744 arrivals and other but frame planes and increased...
Aviation, as someone who may have inadvertently disturbed a wasps nest, in my defence I will stress that I was in now way denigrating either an airport or a city.
In my experience as a 79-year-old man - and as I said with two knee replacements - it is much better and quicker for me to fly from...
Just for Llandudno, what are you about?
When I arrive at Manchester Airport, it takes me at least 20 minutes before I even get to security - and I am an old man of 79 with two knee replacements.
There are stairs, lifts and, remember, the travelators have not worked for years...
So I am...
I am not interested in the hyperbole either from the media or others who keep on about the job isn't finished.
I want to get through into the departures lounge as quick as I can and yesterday it took less than two minutes. End of!
But I will repeat: what they are building is state-of-the art...
Arrived via the airbridge this morning at 0900 and just walked straight through. Took less than a minute before I was the other side of duty free.
Very impressed, state-of-art facility, spacious and light. Fantastic....
Spread the word, pass it on...
There is a real dilemma here with ALL passengers getting to the airport early - and with some, possibly getting to the airport too early.
Would it help if there were two distinct queues, firstly for those passengers with flights before 0630, and another queue for those with flights post 0630...
I am very confused by a main item of news overnight which states that carry-on liquid rules have been cancelled at SIX airports. No mention of Birmingham....
Is Birmingham not included?
If it is included, BBC should be called to account over what would be gross misrepresenting of the facts.
From what i am reading, Bhx is not alone with extensive queueing early in the morning...
Bristol airport is experiencing similar problems: chaos at the car parks waiting for shuttles to the airport, chaos inside the airport and - passengers missing flights.
What the solution is i do not know...
If one hour to get through is the new norm now that the new security system is in place I hope passengers will accept this as being reasonable - and they can take a litre of cider with them.....kkkk
Today was the big test, the last weekend before the new security system comes on stream at the beginning of June.
So, how did this morning go? Obviously long queues but, with careful management by airport staff, was it deemed successful?
In truth, i hope it was, and from here on in, Brum...
My apologies if I got the airline wrong but from where I was stood at the far end and the left hand side of the main terminal, all I could see was a Easyjet plane parked outside and below the checking in desk.
And the complainants were speaking French.
But as to the earlier part of my post...
