Mark Knopfler is playing the Leeds FDA tonight, having just finished in Berlin, so this aircraft is likely to be transport for his band and he.

    TUi Airlines UK

LBA, as far as I know, isn't an Airport whose capacity is dictated by slots. There is a shortage of departure gates, hence the large number of aircraft tows Jet2 have to do in the morning. Approved Departure Times are sometimes a feature, as is the case at all airports, but that's all. Sounds...

    Road, Rail & Access Issues

Since the double reds appeared, I have seen a few motorists dropping off passengers outside the security gatehouse, i.e. just where the double reds finish !

Stop press. A BA A321 just on pushback. I obviously missed its arrival.

    British Airways

I was keeping out of the rain ! This morning I've been on the car park roof at Terminal 1 for well over an hour and no British Airways, unless I've missed them. I just remember when there would often be two Airbuses or 757s on stand at once. Maybe my perception is off kilter.

I don't know about TriStars. Certainly Tridents back in the day and a 767 occasionally.

    British Airways

I've been at Manchester Airport over the last 24 hours and I've seen very little of British Airways. Just two A319s so far. What a difference from the days of multiple 757s, plus the British Midland Heathrow services.

    Aircraft Flying Overhead [OTT]

Sun Country is a name from the past. Dan-Air often used to lease a 727 or two to them during their winter downtime.

I guess Simon Whitby is at the helm now. The airport now, more than ever, also needs a businessman or woman who can really SELL the place to the airlines. Sponsoring a bicycle race is laughable. Bristol and Newcastle just get on with the job of promoting themselves and make extensive use of...

Does LBA even have a management team at the moment ? I don't know who's in charge since the bonny lad scarpered.

Sunwing couldn't keep away after all. I wonder how the two sets of crew will be getting from and to Aberdeen ?

    Thomas Cook

Lots of questions emanating from my original question. It still beggars belief that for an Airport like LBA with its supposed operational issues, a relative newbie like Jet2 can make it work (very well) while the elder statesmen of TUI and TCX, either can't or just won't.

    Thomas Cook

Does anyone know the last time LBA didn't have a summer-based aircraft from either Thomson/TUI or Thomas Cook ? Was it within the last ten years ?

    KLM cityhopper

We should bring back Air Anglia with their Friendships, and occasional Fellowship. And get them to do Paris as well, instead of the paltry Jet2 offering.
