Putting on yet another pair of flip flops.

Labour should be renamed Liberal London elite party. There is a HUGE gap in the market to take the whole sweep of the country at the moment, centre ground, sensible conversation and future proofing the country. Something governments fail to do.

Sorry but you need to deal in facts, and not emotions.

This is what what the last Labour government did, what's elite about these achievements mate? The Tories have f*ck*d this country and have used the media to create right wing narratives (GB News, Daily Mail, Telegraph etc etc) that resulted in Brexit, pretending to level up and making the people up north believe Boris and his pals give a sh*t, we got declined for our tram network, and we most likely wont be getting HS2

1. A rising National Minimum Wage - the annual uprating benefits 1 million people a year.
2. The shortest waiting times since NHS records began.
3. Three million more operations carried out each year than in 1997, with more than double the number of heart operations.
4. Over 44,000 more doctors
5. Over 89,000 more nurses
6. Over three quarters of GP practices now offer extended opening hours for at least one evening or weekend session a week.
7. All prescriptions are now free for people being treated for cancer or the effects of cancer, and teenage girls are offered a vaccination against cervical cancer.
8. The NHS can now guarantee that you will see a cancer specialist within two weeks if your GP suspects you may have cancer. Whatever your condition, you will not have to wait more than 18 weeks from GP referral to the start of hospital treatment – and most waits are much shorter than this.
9. 22 million people are benefiting from real tax cuts to boost their income this year.
10. 12 million pensioners benefiting from increased Winter Fuel Payments
11. 900,000 pensioners lifted out of poverty 12.500,000 children lifted out of relative poverty and measures already in train will lift around a further 500,000 children out of poverty.

Question. What have the last few posts got to do with

Infrastructure, Construction & Developments?

I don’t know if you’re referring to my post. But mine is to with LBA as he was questioned on the LBA plans which I think is relevant to this thread.

The thing is with this. Political stuff will come up as it’s the government who have the final decision if the new terminal can go ahead so political stuff in that sense will pop up. It’s just like covid related matters will pop up as it’s affecting aviation at the moment.

obviously political things and covid not related to LBA and other aviation stuff should not be in here. They should go in the current affairs threads. Hopefully that’s cleared that up.

but true let’s get back to Developments and construction for LBA.

Dealing in facts. He has his flip flops on. What he says in one week, is different to the next. Internal v external the same most likely.

This is about the airport and Leeds infrastructure. Something a Labour lead council and Labour MPS have an absolute appalling record on. I mean check the MPS stance around Leeds. Hence my comments. Dealing facts not emotions. They’ve been taken over by green communists.

Don't just read a couple of posts and assume the thread is off-topic. If you read back through the previous posts you will understand how this discussion has ended up here. I refer to when the Labour leader was asked if he thought LBA should see its new terminal development go ahead.

In light of the government holding onto the airport plans and not making a decision one way or another, the situation has very much been politicised. A discussion about asking the official opposition about this is absolutely on topic until such time as a decision has been made.

Might not be something you like but doesn’t mean it’s off topic. You can quite easily ignore the posts.

Good to hear he supports airport expansions. But this isn’t expansion. That word annoys me when people relate it to LBAs plans. If/when it’s built I will be trying to get one of the first flights to use the new terminal (y)

Unfortunately in this day and age of NIMBYs, green fanatics and green obsessed Governments any airport development /expansion is always going to be contentious and political with all the downsides that brings to an essential aviation industry constantly under attack from all sides.

EZY and BA are only here to replace 2 lost operators, BA have done this across a range of airports, this is the only reason we have these operators.
For west yorkshire and the leeds city region to have an airport like it currently is really is abysmal, we can chat about this forever but until we get better infrastructure we will see no growth, no exciting new routes and no new airlines that im sure of.
Every airport large and small in this country are seeing new routes and airlines, everyone but LBA, there is a reason for this! Im sorry i sound so negative but we need to face the truth here!

The truth is simple @LBA4EVER.

The local infrastructure around the airport will struggle and will continue to do so. Even with a railway station they it will still struggle as we fail with joined up thinking. That motorway link @White Heather alluded to would of been so beneficial. But it appears we are have citizens opposite to Manchester with a selfish attitude. We have a bunch of Selfish self serving Labour Mp's who clearly are more extinction rebellion MP's than Labour.

As for the airport terminal and constantly bombarding us with that it needs improving or we need a new one as its the reason we don't get carriers.

Veuling are a "away" based airline. They come into Leeds from overseas. Therefore they will be utilising the airport in it's quieter periods whenever that may be. Afternoon is a bit different however the "wave" or "peak" is far more spread out than that of a morning. Yes we need an improved terminal. Yes it is congested at peak. But some common sense and you'll see there is something to attract the airline. A rich catchment area, routes that have yet to reach full potential from Yorkshire region. There is masses upon masses of potential that this city, region and airports can achieve. Sadly, as we know, that will never be reached. But there is some of that potential then can still be unlocked even with current terminal facilities.

We also need to remember Veuling served LBA before. Maybe Barcelona wasn't the best route given at that time Monarch and Jet2 were on it. But now there is the need to serve the Catalonia capital in competition with Jet2. Unless Ryanair get there first.
I’m bringing this one to the infrastructure thread as that’s what the discussion is and nothing to do with Vueling as such.

The current terminal doesn’t stop new airlines coming here as we’ve seen with easyjet. LBA4EVER easyjet didn’t come to replace other airlines in my opinion. Due to travel restrictions for going abroad demand for staycation soared so easyjet took the opportunity to try BFS from Leeds which clearly is doing very well since they keep extending the flights. Plus with EZY they’ve had slots at LBA a while before they announced the Belfast flights so I think they’ve always had interest to return to LBA which they have done. And since it’s been a few years since they did GVA I consider them a new operater. Plus to add are we forgetting that our biggest operater Jet2 are always expanding here when demand is right. And includes new routes. Such as Skiathos, Santorini which started this year. And also Catania and Olbia (which has been served in the past but good to see them back)

The real replacement for losing Aer Lingus Reigonal was BA Cityflyer which do BHD now.

When MR Gove gives the new terminal the green light (that’s if he ever remember it at the bottom of his papers) and it’s up and running this doesn’t necessarily mean we will get new operators into the airport. Hopefully we will but that would depend on if airlines are willing to negotiate and give LBA a go and also what deals LBA management can offer to lure airlines into the airport.

By all means correct me but that’s my thoughts on the matter :)

The reality is that Concorde_LBA and LBA4ever are both right to a degree.

There is loads of scope for new carriers to use LBA with aircraft based elsewhere, although it would clearly be helpful to LBA and to passengers if they could be scheduled to arrive in quiet periods after the morning rush, before the afternoon rush, or after it, in the early evening. Whether those times suit the airline and route served is another matter. Such times are often of little use to business users. Airlines don't like being told what time to arrive or depart!

However, what is unlikely is another based airline which rules out the likes of easyJet coming here in a big way. The previous airport CEO said he would have loved an easyJet base, or Wizz, but there was 'No chance' with current facilities. His words exactly. In particular the arrivals experience which is very poor and cannot be improved without a new build of some type.

Prior to the pandemic, at peak times, the terminal was at absolute capacity and could not accommodate another based airline operating larger aircraft. Perhaps Eastern with a couple of Embraers but nothing more.

Also it's worth remembering that some airlines don't care that much about the airport facilities as long as they get bums on seats, whilst others wouldn't dream of using an airport where their customers might find themselves squished like sardines at peak times.

So there is scope for new carriers of the right type, generally European, if they can be persuaded to ditch their love of MAN and understand the demand on the sunny side of the Pennines. We now have an ex MAN lady doing her best to make this happen. I hope she is good at her job! But there is no doubt the new terminal will attract more premium carriers to at least take a look at what LBA can offer. It will also enhance the customer experience, which in turn will generate more demand.

There is some news today that is encouraging for our terminal scheme.

Some will recall that Southampton Airport had been given approval for a runway extension by Eastleigh Council, despite the usual opposition from the Southern version of the group that shall not be mentioned. After Jenrick failed to intervene the Southern the group that shall not be mentioned lodged a request for a judicial review, citing exactly the same reasons as our the group that shall not be mentioned lot did when they opened their piggy bank to save up for a similar review should LBAs terminal be approved.

Well, today, the request for a judicial review has been rejected by the Court so the runway will be built. Provided Leeds Council did the job in accordance with the required process, (and both they and LBA are adamant they did), then this suggests that a judicial review request will also be rejected, emptying GALBAs piggy bank with nothing much to show for it.

This news may even make them think twice about seeking a review at all given the reasoning put forward at Southampton for doing so was almost identical to the quoted reasons here. So much so that it appeared that they are working together and using each others brief!

Apparently one of the objectors was BOH airport which seems a dirty tactic from them..
It's business. I see nothing wrong with it.

The Welsh Government that owns Cardiff Airport formally objected to Bristol Airport's expansion planning application and in the 90s Bristol Airport was one of the objectors when a public enquiry considered BAE's application to turn Filton airfield into a city airport - something the secretary of state eventually rejected. I believe both those actions too were legitimate attempts at protecting their own businesses.

Although judicial reviews look at the legal process and not the merits of the decision itself, the SOU circumstance and the recent successful appeal by Stansted airport against a planning rejection (where a High Court judge also subsequently rejected a judicial review application against the appeal being allowed) are encouraging signs when it comes to the sec of state's ultimate decision regarding LBA. I'd love to know what is causing the delay to the minister's decision.

Chances are that he doesn't yet know he has a decision to make! LBA will still be down the bottom of his in tray.

What chance the Government cancel HS2 but as a sign that they really do care about Yorkshire, they approve the terminal? Surely, they wouldn't dare cancel HS2 and refuse the terminal too??

I understand it is all business but looking at the bigger picture, any investment in the industry is a positive at the moment. Would be interesting to know if DSA/MAN objected LBA's plans? & Vice Versa with LBA/LPL objecting MAN's terminal etc if anybody knows?

Neither objected. In fact, DSA expressed support stating that both airports needed to develop to serve Yorkshire better. Jolly decent of them really!

Yes, not only did BOU object, they were also the instigator of one if the two applications for a Judicial Review and now claim to be 'disappointed' and considering their options. They can appeal within 7 days.

One thing is for certain - if BOU ever apply for any sort if expansion, they can expect SOU to do their best to block it..
