With regards to BAMC and BA retiring its 747 fleet, hopefully gaining the A.350 and 777.900. could it also maintain third party 747 operators
most of which are now cargo carriers?.
I'm not sure the runway would be long enough for a fully freighted 747. l

I was thinking on the maintenance side of things, i remember many years ago BAMC had quite a few charter airlines in for checks.
Tower Air, Southern Air and Kalitta for example.

They don't really do much 3rd party maintenance there do they. They did do Norwegian 787s a while back.

Take away the 747 maintenance without replacing them with A.350 or any new additions to the long haul fleet, then i would imagine there could be some gaps.

I imagine there may be some gaps at BAMC in the near future with 747’s out of service - but don’t forget BA are also acquiring A350’s, 777X’s, 787-10’s and 777-300ER’s so it should go back to normal over time. BA will also have to put their current 777 and 787 fleet through the new business class refit which takes up slots.

We talk a bit about cargo and of course the welsh economy and how it effects CWL. The Welsh trade survey for 2018 was published a few days ago and although it states that the figures are estimated. Obviously apart from generic areas it doesn't state what is being bought and sold but especially export wise it could be used as a guide for the airport to target for cargo flights in the future.

Key Points: 2018
Sales 71% (£72.1bn) of sales from businesses in Wales were goods and 29% (£29.2bn) were services;
50% of sales went to customers in Wales, 30% to other parts of the UK, 12% to the rest of the EU and 8% to the rest of the world.
2018 Purchases 79% (£53.4bn) of purchases by businesses in Wales were goods and 21% (£13.8bn) services;
20% of purchases came from Wales, 51% from other parts of the UK, 13% from the rest of the EU and 5% from the rest of the world. 12% of purchases were unallocated by region.

International exports
In 2018, almost two thirds of the value of all international exports from Wales went to the EU (60%; £11.7bn), with a fifth (21%; £4.2bn) going to Asia

Top five international export destinations by sales value, 2018

France £4.3bn 22%
China £1.9bn 10%
Netherlands £1.9bn 10%
Germany £1.7bn 9%
USA £1.6bn 8%

They are owned by the same people that own the Bristol Post and if the cuts in staff go through WalesOnline will essentially be produced from England.

Reach Plc, formerly Trinity Mirror, owns both Wales OnLine and the Bristol Post, formerly Bristol Evening Post (Bristol Live when online) as well as nearly 250 other regional titles and several daily and Sunday papers such as the Daily and Sunday Express, Daily and Sunday Mirror and Daily Star.

I don't know where the regional papers are printed now. The hard copy of the Bristol Post hasn't been printed in Bristol or the region for many years.

Due to a lack of scheduled flights from China and India, all the South Wales Universities, together with Bristol, Exeter, and the University of the West of England, are banding together to charter planes to bring existing students and new students, from the aforementioned countries to Cardiff or Bristol airports before the start of the new university year. Cardiff is said to be favoured at the moment, because of the need to use larger planes., The Welsh Universities have been talking to Hainan Airlines, to implement these flights. { information gleaned from the education supplement of the Wester Mail}. We shall wait and see how correct it is.
