British Airways cabin crew have voted to go on strike over the Christmas period after rejecting a 2% pay offer.

According to the Telegraph.co.uk, British Airways is to "densify" many of it's long haul fleet from next year.

British Airways revealed plans last November to introduce a new 10 seat configuration to add an extra 52 seats to its Boeing 777 aircraft based at London Gatwick initially.

The Telegraph reports the airline is looking to introduce the 10 seat configuration to flights from London Heathrow at a later date.

It's certainly not improving the flying experience.

I have read that they are reducing the seat pitch on European services to 29", same as easyJet but less than Ryanair. Again this is to get more seats into their short haul fleet.

I guess that everyone is aware of the chaotic scenes at London's two main airports following the cancellation of all BA flights because of a power supply issue.

The first and obvious question is how does a power supply issue affect only one airline and why is there no back-up system in place?

The other major question concerns something that happens every time when things go awry - lack of communication. It happens with all organisation and in a time when there has never been such widespread means of communication. The means are there but they are not used effectively.

I've seen and heard numerous interviews with passengers over this weekend complaining that they have been told nothing. No doubt when all this is over BA will say that lessons have been learned - it's a stock phrase that all organisations use. They might learn the lessons but I bet they won't apply them the next time something goes wrong.

British Airways have applied to wet lease 9 Qatar Airways A320/321 aircraft between 1st and 16th July and for possible additional periods for up to 2 months to cover for strike action by BA Mixed Fleet crew.
Makes sense considering Qatar won't be using them!

Not good PR for British Airways! I honestly don't think they'll care though!

The dreadful PR just keeps coming. People will think the airline has something to hide that it is frightened to put into the public domain. It's also a pretty arrogant stance towards their many customers who were seriously inconvenienced.

I suppose the one thing that might be said is that the airline is reluctant to say too much on legal advice with litigation a worry.

British Airways owner IAG is the last contender for the takeover of the former Air Berlin subsidiary Austrian airline Niki, the company has reportedly put in a double digit million euro offer with other contenders Thomas Cook, TUI and former fonder Niki Lauda no longer in the running and the Lufthansa group ditching plans to bid due to European Commission competition concerns.

Just been confirmed according to The Independent, bought for 20 million euros. Will run as a Vueling subsidy.

I suppose it shows where IAGs priorities lie and the UK isn't one of them with the exception of London. The acquisition of Niki will give them a foothold in Germany and if they had bought Monarch then they could have had a big foothold in regional UK as well. What will be interesting to see is if they change the name to Vueling and how that effects Niki.

British Airways have taken a minority stake in Norwegian. They have mentioned they have an interest of possibly taking control of the airline.
