And that is a whole new topic of conversation right there!
And should that conversation start with was that extra 1500ft of runway worth it?
I don,t know how much it cost but as it involved the rerouting of a major A road it must have been lots.
Presumably that money had to be borrowed. As the extension would seem to be been bringing in little or probably no extra income
offering deals to airlines must be financially difficult.
So we have 2 A380'/s a day(for the moment) using our long runway but might not be able to fly to Edinburgh?
Worrying times.

Maybe the problem isn't Flybe's pricing but BHXs charges?
That's a point I feel is worthy of discussion.
It has long been said that BHX charges are high compared to other UK airports. The only evidience for this however, would be published landing fees etc.
It is usual for airports to offer reduced charges to encourage the start up of new routes and airlines. Airports will also usually offer reduced charges for based aircraft.
The reduced charges for new routes/airlines, are designed to allow these to to be developed and grow over a period (say 2 years) during which time the airport charges will gradually increase charges to the full amount. Each airline, of course may have it's own agreement with an airport regarding how much it pays after the 'development' period has finished. This info will only be known by the airport and the airline.
Again, we won't know but are BHX reverting to high charges following the introductory period for a new service? Is this why so many new services have been lost after 18 to 24 months?
If so, is BHX shooting itself in the foot? With the loss of each service, that's less aircraft handling required. Lower footfall through the terminal (including shops and restaurants), fewer cars in the car parks and fewer meals provided by airline catering.
Over the last few years, BHX has been very successful in attracting new services. Unfortunately, it's been almost as successful in losing them within a couple of years.
BHX needs to be competitve with other airports that have overlapping catchment areas. This, I believe is the best way to maintain growth and dividends for the shareholders.

I don't know how concessions are charged, but a good model is that of Gatwick.
They charge a percentage of turnover and even have specialist staff employed to check on their concessions ensuring they are making the most of their retail space.

Switching to this business model would certainly benefit from higher footfall and encourage lower landing charges.

The extension also messed up the ILS for 33 which is an important feature. Is it working again yet?

Well i really hope BHX are looking outside the box in case it all goes t-ts up.

Its good business to keep all your options open.
Except the problem is that Flybe are probably irreplaceable with the network they provide. No other airline is either able or willing to do what they do.

Flybe go under and no one comes in (Orange please) BHX will go under. Nothing more than cheapo travel to the Costa Del Brum. I may start taking an interest in another airport if that is the case!

Sorry Jerry but i dont agree that they are not irreplaceable. When BA (Birmingham) left BHX in the early 2000s who would of thought Flybe or Jersey European as they were known then would be the airline that they are today.

Anything is possible, however please dont think i want anything to happen to Flybe, after all they have been loyal to BHX in some respect (Not always) but i certainly do not think they are irreplaceable.

To be fair BHX still has a good amount of European carrier's like Lufthansa and Air France so it's not the end of BHX and they won't be just a Costa airport it'll just lose the Flybe domestic routes and the other routes from Flybe.

Maybe irreplacable is too strong a word but I don't think there would be anyone rushing to fill the gap they leave especially on the domestic routes. Not that i think they will leave one. Someone mentioned this on another forum in that the Flybe management hadn't made any sort of statement about the share price as if they are either happy for it too go like that or have buried their head in the sand!

Mmmmmmmmmm what is going on at Flybe.

As of mid June Milan goes from daily to 12x weekly (double daily Mon to Fri with one on Sat and Sun). There endeth the good news.....

Stuttgart goes from 11x weekly (2x daily Mon to Fri and one on Sun) to 6x weekly (1x daily Sun to Fri.

Hannover goes from 6x weekly to 4x weekly (Tue and Wed dropped).

Knock is dropped yet again and joins the extensive unserved list.

That is only up until Sept 9th, which is generally a quiet period for business flights, so we'll see what happens when the next batch are released.

Really frustrating if Knock has gone again as someone on the other forum said BHX-NOC and EDI-NOC had good loads. Mid June seems a very odd time to drop it. Maybe there are more schedule updates to come as there is a single outbound BHX-NOC bookable on July 26 and EDI-NOC is loaded but showing as "sold out".

Can we mention the elephant in the room? Bre....
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that BE's operating costs rose by 33% in 2016 (weak pound?)

According to the article in the Independent, linked below, talks about post Brexit route access haven't even begun.

https://www.independent.co.uk/trave...ope-eu-uk-no-deal-fly-transport-a8600201.html

Ms Chadwick admitted that talks with individual countries or Brussels about route access had not begun, saying: “Where we are actually in our discussions around air services agreements: we have not been able to start those bilateral discussions or multilateral discussions yet with either member states or indeed with the Commission.”
