Return flights was not the best (see delays and diversions thread). Very turbulent and windy on approach. I was convinced a couple of times we would have to go around and potentially divert but we made it in. We were not allowed to disembark from the rear as it was too windy to use the rear stairs, and we quickly found out why. It was VERY windy. Landed on stand 11 and took a bus back to the terminal. Passport control/immigration was a quick process due to all posts being staffed. I can see why people want a new baggage claim area - it is not huge and the ceiling is very low.
For once the wind, though strong, was down the runway. You might have fared worse at other airports . LBA got Teessides KLM last night due to strong crosswinds up there.

Hi,

We flew out on Thursday morning to Faro with Ryanair.
Meet and greet went well.
Going through Hall A and I was very impressed with what I saw, very nice indeed.
Fast Track perfect.
Security 5mins.
White Rose Suite or whatever they call it now….awful. Bacon looked liked it had done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson and the scambelled eggs were disgusting…they looked the part but had no taste at all, is there such as thing as powered eggs as if there is that was it. My wife is a very nervous flyer and likes a large Brandy just before we board, I was told you can only order singles by the young lady behind the bar so I ordered 2 (for her) whats the point of that?
Then the flight…we only booked 4 days in advance so the only 2 seats together were 31E anf F….and we were in the middle of a wedding party going out and they were pissed as farts, (plus there were more mid section of the plane) lots got up wanting the toilet while the seat belt signs were still on and wouldnt sit back down until they used the toilet, no trolley service until 1 hours before landing because no one would sit down (didnt see the point of that) as the flight attdant couldn’t use the ilse as they were all stood up chatting way very loudly.
Sorry about some of the spelling…

Its disappointing to hear negative reports like this. You are always going to get disruptive passengers, you just hope its not on your flight! As far as the food in the lounge goes I would complain to the airport. Lounge passes arent cheap and travellers can expect better. Its important you complain, feedback is important as it gives the airport the opportunity to raise standards. Keep posting!

So sorry to hear you experienced disruptive passengers. Sadly the public, everywhere; seems to have lost their minds. Nothings been the same since after lockdown and the ol “British” etiquette has left the country.

I don’t see why the trolleys couldn’t have been brought out after all that would have done them the favour. Ryanair sadly seem to be all the easy life. But you will find this everywhere now.

Your correct there about the public, standards right across the board have dropped and what i regularly see about is very worrying indeed. The country is a mess!

Hi all,
Just landed back at LBA this afternoon from Faro…Can someone please explain to me why the escalator at arrivals is ALWAYS out of action? I use the airport at least 6-7 times a year and I can’t remember the last time I actually seem it working…we were the only plane to land then and it was very quiet but imagine at busy time when 3-4 planes land within 20 mins of each other…madness.

I'm sure I saw a recent post stating it was back in action, just at a reduced speed for safety reasons.
Having said that when I arrived back from Bratlislava back in March it was working.

It requires a member of airport staff to stand and watch it due to the limited space and potential for people to back up with no where to move away.

It works, but when it's switched off, it's due to the insistence of H&S executive, to avoid problems at the top where people coming off the escalator come into conflict with those using the stairs. LBA did say they hoped to slow down the escalator to lessen the risk and enable it to be in use more often, but that change requires an engineer and I'm not sure if they have been yet and done it.

LBA management are keen to point out however that if passengers struggle with steps, there is a lift near the bottom of the steps which is available.

Look on the bright side. Once the new terminal is built, this problem will be history.

After many weeks of browsing, I finally booked 5 days away in Cyprus with Jet2 holidays.
So last Saturday, 20th May, I boarded the A1 flyer service up to Leeds Bradford Airport for the 15:55 LS405 departure to Paphos.

Upon arriving at check-in hall B, there was a positive excitable atmosphere with lots of families flying off on their holidays.

Check-in was fast, smooth and efficient. Having checked in online, we only had to visit the self issue bag tagging machines and drop off our suitcases.
On to security, literally it was a breeze. For a mid Saturday afternoon, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. From entering security, to sitting in the Beer House enjoying a cold pint of Strongbow Dark Fruits (£6.99 a pint though!) was about 20 minutes.

We had previously been advised by text, email and app notification - all bases covered by Jet2 to make sure we knew - that our flight may potentially be delayed due to French Air Traffic strikes, however the delay didn’t come to fruition and we promptly and speedily boarded through gate 9. A short walk out and we boarded a Jet2.com liveried aircraft, G-JZBI for this 4hr 21 minute flight down to Paphos.
The flight down to Cyprus was very uneventful, a few wines consumed and plenty of snacks, and before we knew it, we were approaching the island. As the flight progressed, around half way through, the darkness suddenly fell and looking out the window was like staring into an abyss.
Arriving into Paphos, there was around a dozen flights from the United Kingdom, however again the process through Passport Control and collecting our luggage was speedy and efficient and we made our way outside to the awaiting Jet2 holiday reps to direct us to the coach transfer. Kudos to Jet2 holidays, as there weren’t any other holidaymakers heading to the West Coast of the island (we stayed in a little town called Latchi) that day, so they put us in a private transfer.

After a very enjoyable time in the warmth of the Cypriot sunshine, and it was time to head home.

Check-in at Paphos airport was similar to Leeds Bradford, fast, smooth and efficient.
Considering how busy the airport is at that of night, there were 6 Jet2.com flights within 15 minutes of each other, along with a few easyJets and TUI flights, resulted in a very crowded departure lounge. Unfortunately Paphos airport couldn’t even be described as organised chaos, it was just Pandemonium!
We were initially told gate 4, then 2 but ultimately boarded through gate 6! A short shuttle bus whisked us to our awaiting aircraft, this time a holidays liveried B737-800 G-JZBS.

During the welcome onboard announcement the captain was less than complimentary about the shambles of an operation in the terminal. Despite the aircraft leaving Leeds Bradford late, and us departing Cyprus late, flying time back to the United Kingdom was 4 hrs 20 against a block time of 5 hours and 5 minutes. This meant we were only estimated to land at 02:05, just 10 minutes behind schedule.
Lovely flight back to Leeds Bradford, we parked over towards stand 22, so a bus journey to the terminal. Immigration was an actual breeze. Granted we were the first of 4/5 flights landing in the early hours, but no queue at Passport control, our suitcases were on the belt by the time we got to the carousel, from touchdown to getting in the taxi, was 50 minutes. Pretty good going in my opinion.
I did however pre book an Amber Car, rather than using the overpriced Arrow Cars.

My only gripe, and it has nothing to do with the Airport or Jet2.com , is that surely the A1 Flyer bus could continue throughout the night in the summer, even if it was an hourly service into Leeds. I’m sure it would be very well used.

Just a follow up to my previous post, first time on a max8, must admit inside the cabin did feel a little larger and the overhead compartments for hand luggage are huge so well thought out there, with nice decorative blue lighting added in. The maxs are fairly quiet with not much noise passing thru the cabin and the toilets have folding doors which i suppose makes sense to give more space.
Flight landed back at LBA 5mins ahead of time, landing was pretty decent, firm touchdown runway 14 and standard reverse thrust.
Busses to terminal relatively quick but surprise the escalator was not working and blocked off so everyone was trying to get up a single flight of steps which was pretty crazy, you could hear many passengers were not happy, straight thru security in literally 2mins, so overall a good experience!

Im sure WH reported back from one of her meetings months back that this had been resolved by simply slowing it down.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 2nd time
