Was waiting to pick my daughter and grandson up at LBA on the delayed Ryanair flight from Dublin at around 19.20 yesterday when the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster did a low pass over the runway (14). Quite a sight and made my grandson’s day as he’s an avid aviation fan and saw it with his Mum (who was also excited!) as they walked to the car park.

Not just the sight, but the sound as well. Who doesn't love the sound of the RR Merlin (or better still, four of them together)? Rolls-Royce's 12 cylinder symphony!

Yes it was our local children’s gala yesterday and they said the planned Spitfire flypast just before 1500 had been cancelled but hoped for a Lancaster one around 1900 - and it certainly didn’t disappoint

And albeit not great as it was off a phone at short notice, here is a picture

In my much younger days I visited the Manchester Science and Industry Museum where they had a cutaway Merlin engine on display. I can still picture it now over 50 years later, what a fantastic piece of British engineering.

Just heard (and then seen) an interesting visitor, flying low after departure from LBA - bright yellow Britten-Norman BN2B-26 Islander G-HEBS of Hebridean Air Services. Currently flying over Knaresborough after doing a couple of loops over the Wetherby area.

The aircraft has been on maintenance with Multiflight since early May and is carrying out an Air Test.
It has been a regular visitor for work at Multiflight for a good few years. Multiflight also do a lot of work on the Shetland Isladners G-SICA and G-SICB.

Talking of Islanders flying overhead, I remember about thirty years ago G-BDWG used to spend weekends doing parachute drops over North Yorkshire. Either out of Topcliffe or Bagby. On her way back home (Barton?) on Sunday evenings, she would often carry out an NDB hold or two over LBA.

1110---Just about to fly directly over Bradford at 10000'(Unfortunatley above cloud) is-

The aircraft left Singapore on Monday on delivery to the USA and was flying from Pula the Venice yesterday afternoon when, for some reason doverted into Humberside.

Been at least 3 Hercules heading and droning East today (1x RCAF 2xUSAF). Wonder if it’s anything to do with the Middle East?

737/700 G-NEWG(Broadsword 904B) passing about 5 west of LBA(1200) descending into Teeside, bringing the victorious Leeds Unitred team "home" from Exeter.

according to some people, you only need 1 day in each of the Yorkshire Dales, North Wales and Lake District "to have seen it all". Which is why its minibus tour number 3 this year of the Yorkshire Dales for me on 16th October. Different routes and different things to see each tour.
Apologies for any issues today, I was planning on updating the site but sadly something went wrong so the upgrade has been postponed. Apologies again for any inconvenience caused.

Thank you for your kind donation to our running costs Jenny.
I've done 2 minibus tours with Mountain Goat this week. Monday was North York Moors with over 600 photos and today High Adventure in the Lakes with 750. photos. Slightly snap happy.
I've asked Gareth Southgate for the winning lottery numbers. He said 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6
