I just discovered that Humberside Airport only opened in 1974 ( closed after the war in 1945 ) . Quite surprised it hadn't been operating for a longer period.

Indeed, almost coincided with the formation of much maligned Humberside County Council. Prior to Kirmington being used for commercial aviation purposes, there was an airport in Brough which Autair ran a number of successful routes from. The building of Cappa Pass smelting works in 1969 meant that Brough lost its licence to provide CAT. The services moved to RAF Leconfield from which they continues up until I think 1974 when it was consolidated at Humberside and the rest is history. Believe Amsterdam will have been served continuously from Humberside for 50 years either next year or in 2025.I just discovered that Humberside Airport only opened in 1974 ( closed after the war in 1945 ) . Demolished in 1991 I think. It was allegedly the cause of numerous childhood cancers in the local area too sadly. The irony is that the chimney at Cappa Pass smelting works was demolished a few years ago. It could have been the airport for East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. (and a lot nearer for me to get to)
Autair operated a Jersey service from LBA for a short period in 1969? because of restrictions at RAF Leconfield.

I've only used HUY once, when I flew with Air UK from Tees side. Just a short hop, but saved a.long drive. I think I was the only one who got on at MME, and I think HUY was pretty deserted when I got off there. It was quite late in the evening I recall. I think the F27 went inwards to NWI.
It was around that time, but dont remember the day of the week. It was certainly pre DSA. I do distinctly remember the pilot saying at MME he wanted to get underway because of fog rolling in..Must have been the old Sunday rotation. I’m terms of busyness, during the period early 90’s to mid 00’s HUY was often one of the fastest growing airports in the country. Unfortunately the opening of DSA and the consolidation in the IT market put a stop to that. Such a shame, confident that HUY would be outperforming BOH now had DSA not opened.
Positive thoughts not appropriate on this subHi guys.Hope you’re well.
I’ve come on here to talk about expansion from airports that need expanding. For example I’ve done Leeds and they like my positive thoughts.
This is my bet for
Loganair route to Inverness as a one weekly flight
Eastern airways to Europe to offer two destinationsrague and Rhodes
Wow that is one way of looking at it!Latest FY results 2023 show that Humberside is back in profit - that’s with property revaluation. But actually it made an operating loss of £3000.00 on its core business.
Yes that is the right amount of zeros. It lost the equivalent of a third hand Vauxhall Corsa…! That’s based on 136,000 passengers. So crudely that means the airport lost £0.04 for every departing passenger.
Tell me again why the mayor next door wants to plunge up to £138m into a venture that previously lost up to £15.00 per departing passenger.
