A cryptic ‘tweet’ by SPD travels suggests an airlines is to announce a base at its ‘spiritual home’ tomorrow. Could it be Jet2’s arrival finally into BOH? They’ve been eyeing up the south coast recently.

I’ve been quiet for a while generally lurking but not contributing.

Exciting week ahead with the opening of the Liverpool base - great to see most of the inaugural flights sold out!

From what I hear it’s not the only good news due this week, for obvious reasons I cannot divulge but I’ve been hearing rumblings for a while about a potential exiting announcement due.

Onwards and upwards or should I say southernwards…

Obviously heard the same as me, although I hadn’t heard specifics on base just put 2 and 2 together after I was told the south coast was the next target.

Great news for Bournemouth, but possibly a hard pill to swallow for Southampton. I would guess that SOU would also have been in negotiation with Jet2 for the base.
I believe SOU had been having discussions in the past too, the issues being performance restrictions which I don’t think the runway extension did much to mitigate from a jet2 perspective. Shame to see SOU having lost so much since Flybe demise, hopefully easyjet will pick up more along the way. This is great news for Bournemouth though and for jet2. The Bournemouth/Southampton/Portsmouth conurbation is large and relatively wealthy so I’m sure it will be well supported, it also raises the profile of the airline in that part of the country and makes an entry into LGW at some point down the line a bit easier too should they decide to go in there.

As things stand there should be a significant uptick in passenger numbers for BOH next year assuming no changes to the incumbents. 2x aircraft could provide up to 400,000 extra seats.

Probably that and the history of having roots down there helped too. I’ve never been to BOH but I understand it’s an efficient little airport and nice to use, plus there’s probably plenty of room in the terminal to turn Jet2!

I went over Covid, i went for a day trip to BOURNEMOUTH thanks to Easyjet running a LPL-BOH service at the time. Its not a bad airport, quite a small terminal.

  • Shortly after launching flights and holidays from Bournemouth Airport for Summer 25, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays put Winter 25/26 Sun programme on sale
  • Leading leisure airline and UK’s largest tour operator put choice of nine Winter Sun destinations on sale from 12th UK base airport
  • Release of programme follows ‘truly phenomenal’ response to base launch in March, and gives customers and independent travel agents the chance to escape to the sunshine
23rd May 2024: Following the launch of flights and holidays from Bournemouth Airport for Summer 25, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have today announced further good news for customers and independent travel agents in the South Coast by launching their first ever Winter Sun programme from the airport.
The leading leisure airline and UK’s largest tour operator have put their Winter Sun programme on sale for Winter 25/26 from their newest and 12th UK base airport, Bournemouth Airport, after experiencing a ‘truly phenomenal response’ to the launch of the new airport base in March.
Holidaymakers in Bournemouth, Southampton and Portsmouth, as well as the wider region have plenty of choice and flexibility when it comes to booking some winter sunshine and experiencing the companies’ award-winning flights and ATOL protected holidays, as nine Winter Sun destinations have gone on sale today.
The Winter Sun destinations available from Bournemouth Airport for Winter 25/26 are – Canary Islands (Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura), Spain (Alicante), Majorca (Palma), Turkey (Antalya) and Portugal (Faro and Maderia). In addition to friendly flight times, the programme represents up to 15 departing weekly flights during peak periods, and Madeira is an exclusive destination from Bournemouth Airport.
Today’s announcement means that Jet2.com and Jet2holidays are the first airline and major tour operator to put Winter 25/26 on sale, and the early release of the programme comes in response to demand from local holidaymakers looking to lock some winter sun holidays into their diaries.
Today’s announcement represents tee-terrific news for golfers too, with Winter Sun golf holidays on sale as well. This includes golf packages which have rounds of golf included at selected hotels across the Canary Islands, Antalya, Algarve and Mainland Spain.
The full Winter 25/26 Winter Sun programme from Bournemouth Airport is as follows:
  • Tenerife (up to four weekly services)
  • Lanzarote (up to two weekly services)
  • Gran Canaria (weekly services)
  • Fuerteventura (weekly services)
  • Alicante (up to two weekly services)
  • Palma (weekly services)
  • Antalya (weekly services)
  • Faro (up to two weekly services)
  • Madeira (weekly services)
Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “Since launching our award-winning flights and holidays for Summer 25 from Bournemouth Airport, the response has been truly phenomenal, and we are delighted at how well the announcement has been received. In response to that strong demand, we are delighted to be putting our first ever Winter Sun programme on sale from the new base airport for Winter 25/26 too.”
He added: “By launching our Winter Sun programme for 25/26 nice and early, we are giving holidaymakers the chance to book ahead and lock in their getaway, while spreading the cost. With more people than ever wanting to swap the cold and rain of the UK in winter for some sunshine, we are expecting this new programme to sell quickly and be extremely popular. We are confident that our first Winter Sun programme from Bournemouth Airport will be a fantastic success.”
Bournemouth Airport, Managing Director Steve Gill, said: “This is fantastic news for holidaymakers and a huge vote of confidence in Bournemouth Airport. By launching their first ever winter sun programme from Bournemouth so far in advance Jet2.com and Jet2holidays are providing even more choice and flexibility for passengers, and we’re delighted that they have seen such a fantastic response to the launch of their new airport base in March.”

Customers flying from Bournemouth will have more choice of holiday destination, duration, and flight times with the addition of a second TUI aircraft based at the airport this Summer.
The Boeing 737-800, which arrived in Bournemouth yesterday, will increase the frequency of flights to Lanzarote, Heraklion, Ibiza, Menorca, Paphos, Palma de Mallorca and Tenerife. Customers will also now have the option of booking 10 or 11 night holidays in addition to 7 and 14 nights.
Thousands of customers are set to fly from Bournemouth Airport with TUI this Summer. There will be 27 flights per week to 14 different destinations with Palma de Mallorca remaining the most popular choice for travellers.
The second aircraft has doubled TUI’s Summer 2024 flying programme from Bournemouth, with over 70,000 seats to Balearics, over 60,000 to Greece, more than 40,000 seats to the Canaries and 25,000 seats to Turkey.

Commercial Director Phill Iveson said: “TUIs been flying out of Bournemouth for 19 years and during that time demand for Mediterranean holidays has soared in the region. With the addition of this new aircraft we’re helping meet that demand and with exclusive routes to Kefalonia and Paphos and more flexible durations we are making sure our customers can travel from their local airport to their ideal holiday destination”.
Crew Relations Manager Nicola Bendall has worked at TUI for 24 years and said this additional capacity couldn’t be more welcome.
“This second aircraft is a massive vote of confidence for the future of Bournemouth. Our passengers have been asking for this additional capacity for a long time, and it’s created a real energy amongst the crew. We are also very excited to be welcoming 30 new cabin crew for the summer season to ensure flawless service for our customers”.
Bournemouth Airport managing director Steve Gill added: “We have a long and proud partnership with TUI and are delighted to be welcoming their second aircraft which provides passengers with even more choice and flexibility from their local airport. We expect to handle more than one million passengers this year and TUI’s commitment to Bournemouth is a big part of that continued growth.”

according to some people, you only need 1 day in each of the Yorkshire Dales, North Wales and Lake District "to have seen it all". Which is why its minibus tour number 3 this year of the Yorkshire Dales for me on 16th October. Different routes and different things to see each tour.
Apologies for any issues today, I was planning on updating the site but sadly something went wrong so the upgrade has been postponed. Apologies again for any inconvenience caused.

I've done 2 minibus tours with Mountain Goat this week. Monday was North York Moors with over 600 photos and today High Adventure in the Lakes with 750. photos. Slightly snap happy.
I've asked Gareth Southgate for the winning lottery numbers. He said 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6
