I agree with your comment, a good deal from LBA to AMS would see me and my family travel three or four times a year for long weekends over to the Nederlands, The high cost of KLM from LBA and the horrendous journey over the M62 means we don't travel so lost revenue for the airlines.But the point is that LCC airlines such as EZY and RYR create demand. People who would not normally be travelling see a good deal from their local airport and fly. LPL has EZY operating routes where the effect on the route from MAN is minimal or none.
If LBA is crying out for routes - AMS or otherwise, there will need to be some kind of route viability study, rather than just gut instinct.
