When I first read the post I wondered if the retirement of Mr Meeson had prompted Jet2 to let someone in from the madhouse, I thought, and still think, that this is not the way that Jet2 do things. I don't think things have changed but it wouldn' surprise if the base rumour of BA divesting themselves of this product wasn't on the cards.
Interesting to note that PM will hold the title ‘Founder Advisor’ and will retain shares in the company. Could be a ploy to keep shareholders happy, but it’s more than likely going to lead to PM holding on to some significant influence within the operating company (hopefully and thankfully), which may safeguard the operation from some less scrupulous investors.

I understand there’s often no smoke without fire, but in this case I still remain to be convinced that BA have held any formal talks with Jet2 over a merger. If they have held talks it will be over the surplus slots at LGW that have been leased to Easyjet, possibly to firm up a winter charter operation and at a stretch to provide sufficient inroads for a base operation. But that is pure speculation on my part, I do not believe that any parts of HQ have been sealed off for secret squirrel stuff as told to us in the post elsewhere, nor do I believe any line Captain would be privy to such information had any higher level discussions taken place.

G-SUNB A321 neo has finally returned from its 2 week holiday in Antalya, and is straight back in service at Manchester, presumable with a new engine fitted.

would be interesting to know who is covering these costs for a new engine, do they have such a thing as a warrenty on them, or have Jet2 had to fork out for a new engine?
Good question but, was the aircraft getting in the way of a bird or was it farting flames due to a mechanical brakedown?

I believe the destinations. But I don’t believe they’ll delay when it’s clear it’ll be a winter announcement destination to rebalance the summer programme & the epicentre is no where near the resorts or destinations. Plus as usual with the fake news they’ll move into something new.

The reaction will be like Turkey; slow down in bookings and the public forget around 5/6 weeks after.

Hearing whispers again of SOU next year for jet2, could it really be true?
There could be some truth in that considering the limitations of Gatwick at the moment. I doubt Southampton just extended their runway on the basis of wishing for more operators. It's likely we will see one of the big players there sooner or later. #Jet2Southampton

To be honest I think BOH would be a better fix for Jet2 than SOU. Especially if the planning to run late night inbound flights as they do from all other UK airports.

There again could send a few of the Boeing 737-300's South and use them intensively on short routes like AGP, ALC, PMI, FAO so that they could do 2 returns runs and be back before the SOU night closure.

Maybe the basing of a couple of 300 series and opening routes within 1000 miles radius, of which I read a recent article on the 300’s operating from LBA and using this distance parameter. Carry out 2 departures each per day and stay well within SOU operating hours!

Serious stuff and although not privy to all the facts I hope questions have been asked. Surely the crew must have been aware of the weather situation down in Majorca before setting off. Surely they must have made provisions for extra fuel for a potential delay or diversion?

#Jet2FuelMayday

A fuel mayday is declared when the aircraft will land with less than final fuel reserves - usually 30 minutes flying time - i.e. this flight could have flown for almost half an hour longer before actually running out of fuel.

The bigger question is, given they landed with just under their final reserve fuel figure, they would have started the approach having burnt all of their diversion fuel, so had in effect committed themselves to Palma.

I don't know about Jet2, but many airlines have a fuel policy whereby if the destination airport has two independent runways, the alternate can be dispensed with after departure - a flight must in most cases be planned with an alternate. That may be what the crew elected to do here, and as you say we're not privy to all the facts, however given the weather on the day I'd rather keep fuel for the alternate that commit to somewhere that had weather like the Balearics did that day.

An additional 20,000 seats to Italy are being laid on by Jet2.com and Jet2holidays with extended summer flying next year and in 2025.

The expansion means the summer 2024 season is being extended until mid-November in response to strong demand.

Flights and holidays are also being added in April and November 2025.

The development sees extra capacity available to Sardinia, Sicily and Verona.

The extension into mid-November next year involves more flights to Sicily from Manchester airport and Stansted.

Additional April 2025 flights have been also put on sale to Sicily from Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds-Bradford and Stansted, timed for Easter.

Extra flights have also been added to Sicily from Birmingham, Manchester and Stansted in late summer 2025.

Sardinia sees more September, October and November flights in 2024 from Manchester and more November flights from Stansted.

The early summer 2025 season to Sardinia sees additional flights in April from Birmingham, Manchester and Stansted.

Verona gains October 2024 flights from Edinburgh, East Midlands, Leeds-Bradford and Newcastle.

Easter 2025 capacity has been added from Birmingham, Edinburgh and Manchester and more flights in September and October from Belfast International, Edinburgh, East Midlands, Leeds-Bradford and Newcastle.

Chief executive Steve Heapy said: “Our Italian programme is enjoying strong demand, which comes as no surprise when you consider the stunning beach holiday and city break options that it offers customers and independent travel agents.

“Sicily, Sardinia and Verona are a trio of Italian delights, and today’s announcement represents a significant expansion of all three destinations.

“Based on the demand we are seeing, we expect these flights and holidays to sell very quickly, as customers look to escape to these magical destinations.”

according to some people, you only need 1 day in each of the Yorkshire Dales, North Wales and Lake District "to have seen it all". Which is why its minibus tour number 3 this year of the Yorkshire Dales for me on 16th October. Different routes and different things to see each tour.
Apologies for any issues today, I was planning on updating the site but sadly something went wrong so the upgrade has been postponed. Apologies again for any inconvenience caused.
