I see what you mean, the likes of PMI and ALC would all work very well but they not take the chances, Cardiff is like a gold mine very limited competition, once the new route development manager starts maybe things will change.

Great to see the fantastic WalesOnline getting behind supporting Welsh infrastructure and jobs...
It is an awful headline that makes it sound like the expansion is at CWL expense despite BFS not operating from Bristol.
Yes, most people are willing to travel to BRS; one would say they have to given the choices at CWL - so a dead quote to say the least.
And that's the problem, if airlines aren't willing to give people the option of flying from Cardiff most people are going to use Bristol.

Alicante, Mallorca, Tenerife at least should be no brainers for an airline like Ryanair from Cardiff and don't need a base to operate. Also in the screenshot i don't who has done the response but if the person is high in route development the fact that he doesn't know who the PM of Wales is i suppose should be a concern.

When/Why did the old one leave?

I think we have said this before but up here at LBA we suffer similarly to you guys. Yes ok we have an FR 3 aircraft base plus an abundance of away based flights. But when it comes to local media and a backwards thinking council taking the side of the anti-airport brigade LBA is being held back. Similarly we have to contend with our bigger neighbour just west of the Pennines. So all I can say is you have some sympathy from me. That all said, airlines like FR will run out of space/capacity at other airports so will increase where there is capacity/space, so there is hope out there

Although this article is well complete rubbish the comment by the Ryanair person doesn't bode well for any hope of future expansion at Cardiff by Ryanair.
"The number of flights from Cardiff are 50% less than last year, but we have found that most people are willing to travel to Bristol. There is so much going on there and we are happy to be growing our base."
The article has been updated
"A spokeswoman for Cardiff Airport said: "Ryanair’s winter season starts at the end of October where they are now operating a slightly smaller schedule with two less flights a week from Cardiff. Their popular Dublin services from Cardiff remain the same as last winter at four days a week.

"Emerald Airlines operating as Aer Lingus operates a daily service to Belfast City which is two extra flights a week this winter. We look forward to Ryanair announcing their summer’24 schedule from Cardiff in the coming weeks.""

So apparently both the airport and Ryanair weren't happy about the WalesOnline and both have spoken to them about it. Whether they change the article we'll have to see.
Also the airport has stated that they have a positive relationship with Ryanair and look forward to the schedule release for Summer 2024.
Info is from a Facebook group where an email reply was posted.

Ryanair have loaded Malaga for April and May, it's just not onsale yet. Malaga will be 3 weekly all summer. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
A post on Facebook as well has stated that they've changed timings on Dublin. I've had a look and it looks like Monday has changed from 23.00 to 14.55 and Sunday has changed from 23.55 to 13.25.
Still no Faro and Belfast onsale but hopefully it won't be too long.

Thinking about Malaga i wonder if we could see Ryanair do the same with Alicante especially now Vueling is down to 3 weekly and no Wizz. When FR started Malaga they started June to October then went June to September and then went 2 weekly for the full summer and are now 3 weekly all summer maybe they could look at doing something similar with Alicante?

It looks like Faro is being loaded for next year, however there is only one flight available at the moment on 26 March. It can be booked as a one way. Appears to be an away based aircraft.

I've noticed that's been there a while. The AGP flight appeared as the 27 March previously and now they have been uploaded from end of March until October. I suspect this will be the same and it'll be sorted sometime next month.

Hasn't it been like that for a while though?

I was looking on flight radar today and noticed Ryanair have 2 flights to Dublin on Nov 12. I thought it might be an error, but the CWL website confirms that there’s 2 flights 2 hours apart. on Ryanair’s website one is showing as fully booked. Question is, is there an event on Sunday, or is this a sign that if flights sell out quick enough FR are willing to add extra capacity?

More than likely something to do with Dragons playing Leinster on Sunday 12th in Newport.

Faro still not onsale (not onsale at EXY and NQY either), but i looked back at old posts and it went onsale on the 16th last year so still time, hopefully we'll see it go to 3 weekly. If it remains at 2 weekly then with Dublin and Malaga that would be 11 weekly departures, a loss of 2 weekly departures as i can't see Belfast returning. Still hoping we'll see extra from Ryanair in the way of a Mallorca, Tenerife or Alicante, all 3 would be fantastic but i don't see happening at least not in the short term.
Hopefully though eventually we'll see Ryanair operating on Malaga, Faro, Alicante, Mallorca and Tenerife which are some of the main sun routes.

Someone has to pick up PMI given the numbers that route has had in the past. I do wonder why Belfast hasn’t been taken off as an option yet if it’s unlikely to return.

It can take a while for the Ryanair system to update. Fingers crossed we'll see someone picking up Mallorca for Summer 2024!

Why do I get the feeling that Cardiff will be amongst the routes they cut in thier row.

Apparently there are several airports waiting for FR to announce their plans for Faro, they are embroiled in a dispute with the Portugal's airport authority, over a rise in airport fees. They have removed one aircraft from Madeira already, and cutting back on flights to Oporto. Let's hope CWL will be lucky when they decide what they are going to do in Portugal, if they they are not perhaps FR would look at PMI.

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.

Well over 4 million steps taken this year already. And about 12,500 photos.
The joys of travel. Train from Edinburgh to Leeds is cancelled so having another night in Edinburgh and heading back in the morning!
Tbf Edinburgh isn't a bad city to be stuck in.
A week off work done which resulted in 6 day trips , 50 miles walked and only 2500 photos, Going to work is more of a holiday as I tended to be out of my flat an hour earlies in my week off and back for after 8pm
