While we're on the topic of Euro 2016 - Russia were threatened with expulsion from the tournament if their fans started any more fights. However I was listening to talksport today and one of the presenters was in Lille, where chanting could be heard in the background. This was apparently from English and Welsh fans who had joined up to sing something like "We're England and Wales, Russia go home", just not in those exact words

I would be very surprised if there are no more fights.

I've heard it suggested that the Russian thugs are to target both the English and Welsh fans on Thursday. I can't say that I've been impressed with the French security services up until now, lets hope that it improves.

They fumigate aircraft do they not? So such noisy insects are in for an uncertain ride home and a friendly Constable waiting to say 'I am sorry Sir but please do not be beastly towards me but I have orders to place you under arrest to appear before a Magistrate to answer to allegations that you were a tad boisterous in a place outwith the Realm of Her Majesty The Queen.

Those guilty of disorder, going home, back to work, or claiming benefits or just abusing us all, St. Helena needs good Humanstock but to inflict such trash is TI punish the good souls of St Helena eve if the new Airport cannot accept aircraft due to Local climatic conditions.

In all fairness they have got more serious threats to deal with. Madmen with explosives and AK47s are probably a bit more of a concern than a tattooed, sunburnt, pissed up, fat english bloke throwing chairs about (y)

Hi there Brumx, I think the guy you are referring to is Mr Daniel Warlow, who is actually from Tipton in the black Country, where as Birmingham is not in the black Country, but the West Midlands next door, please don't confuse the accents as I have known from other people in the past that it's caused arguments, rows and fall outs..Andyc

Hi Ray

I've been deeply saddened by the events in France over the last few days. I'm not saying that English fans are without blame, but from the coverage on TV, it appears to me that the Russian thugs (not the true Russian football fans) were the instigators. You only have to look at the video footage that the Russian thugs have posted, to see that their only motive was violence. If you were in their way, you were beaten up, whether you wanted a fight or not!
I also find it beyond belief that a Russian MP, Igor Lebedev has said “I don’t see anything wrong with the fans fighting, quite the opposite, well done lads, keep it up!" - perhaps he'd be equally keen for an 'open season' on Russian MP's?
I do agree with your comments about the French security services. Whatever the threat, it is their job to deal with it. Whether it be hooligans or international terrorists, they need to respond to the situation as it unfolds.

They fumigate aircraft do they not?

Only countries that have isolated ecosystems (e.g. Australia and New Zealand), require aircraft cabins to be fumigated prior to landing. This never happens on flights between France and the UK.

I sincerely hope that no further troubles occur at the 2016 European Championships, and that the rest of the tournament proceeds in the true nature of sport and is enjoyed by the many millions of true fans.

Here's hoping :banghead:

Hi Andrew

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at there. Yes, Birmingham is in the West Midlands, but so is a large part of the Black Country. This stems from the creation of the West Midlands region. Prior to that, Birmingham was in Warwickshire and the Black Country was in Staffordshire (although, the Black country has no official geographical/political boundaries, that a county/city has). A great example of that, being the house I was born in. When I was born, it was in Staffordshire, it is now in the West Midlands.
As for accents, 'Black Country' is regarded as a true dialect (a language within a language), having it's own words and phrases that are spoken nowhere else. It has also been described as the closest to 'old English' that is still spoken today.

I'm not trying to spark debate, just posting a few facts.

Regards

Kevin - proud of my associations with both the Black Country and Birmingham!

Sorry for my mistake, however the media just reported it yesterday as a Birmingham City Fan and that's what people will associate this guy from around the country and the world but I get your point. :)

I remember when somewhat younger and working Blackheath and Cradley Heath I needed help with an interpreter and purchased the Bugle to help me understand the dialect.

I had similar problems with Newcastle and Sunderland, they speak different languages to what I understood to be English.

The Black Country Bugle was unintelligible at first but 2 years living in Smethwick helped.

Aynuk and Ayli were Black Country comedians renown for their use of the local lingo mainly in the 80's if memory serves.
Also jokes referring to the pair were popular too.
As I am getting ready for work right now I can't give any examples, but they still have a Wikipedia/google page.Give it a look!

Ever heard of Enoch and Eli,(Aynuk and Ayli)?

Yes I have.
Also when I was in my early teens, I went with my parents on several occasions to 'Black Country Night Out' events. These comprised of several stand up comics (one of whom I remember being Dolly Allen - not to be confused with Lilly Allen) and a band I think was called Giggetty. A meal was included in the ticket price and this was always Faggots 'n' Paes!

One I always remember is as follows -

Aynuk is walkin' down the road, an' he sees Ayli commin' the other way with his hair wet and a towel rolled up under his arm. 'Awroight Ayli' say Aynuk. 'Ave yow bin swimming?' 'Ar I 'ave' replied Ayli. 'But I got chucked out'. 'What did they chuck yow out for?' Asked Aynuk. 'Peein' in the pool' replied Ayli. 'They cor chuck yow out for peein' in the pool said Aynuk. 'Everyone does that'.
'Ar, but not off the top board' remarked Ayli.

There's one Black Country joke I can remember, I have no idea where it originates from.

A woman was breast feeding her baby in a Black Country church when the vicar walks over "Yow cor do that in ere" he says, "Arv a devoine roight" the woman replied. The vicar looks at her then replies "Ar, yower left ay bad eva".

Apologies if that offends anybody.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
