I always wanted a Vauxhall Nova but never had one.

I did have a Mark I Astra.

I had my current car for ages now, I should really think about getting a new one but I love it.

had a Nova in the late eighties. Waited for it to die for years and years and years and the thing just kept going. then moved to Rover Metro, Ka, Micra, Astra (x2), Focus and now a Civic (dark red). I will keep the Civic until 100k miles as none of my cars have gone past 70 k before I sold them.

all my life I purchased cars that were 3 to 4 years old, paid outright and sold them when they hit 60k ish. old fashioned me.

I drive a white Audi A3 saloon first saloon I've had since my 4 door Vauxhall Chevette 4 door 35 years ago!

How about first cars? My first was a Morris Marina Coupe in mustard yellow. It was a pig to own, I got less than a mile out of her before the electrics gave up. Then next was a Honda CB125 super dream before exchanging for a Triumph Dolomite 1850 HL which was a rocket!

I am of a generation where many (mainly) young men found their first mechanically propelled vehicle had two wheels. My first was a Phelon and Moore Panther, a 350cc machine (I was 16 and there was no engine size limit on learner or young drivers then).

My next was an A J Stevens (AJS) model 14 motorcycle, a 250 cc-powered machine.

I swapped that for the most interesting vehicle I've ever owned, a Messerschmitt 200cc bubble car which could be driven on a motorcycle licence. The number plate might be worth a few quid these days, especially for a large person who loves his or her food - UHU 8. Sadly, my younger brother decided to take it for a joy ride one evening and wrecked it but that's another story. I still remind him of his 'adventure'.

My last owned motorcycle was a new Ariel Arrow 250cc two stroke. The related Ariel Leader was similar but had an enclosed body, unlike the Arrow. However, I made the mistake of having a large fairing attached to the front of my Arrow which was supposed to make the machine more aerodynamic. It might have done but it certainly slowed down the machine when facing a strong wind.

Because of the severe 1962-63 winter I decided to swap the Ariel for four wheels and bought a five year-old Ford 100E van. It wasn't fast but was a workhorse with its three forward gears. My first actual car was a new Ford Anglia 105E bought in 1966.

My first three cars were a red mark 1 mini, followed by a green Singer Gazelle VII and then a green austin marina out of those 3 the Gazelle was the best

The first car that I owned was an Austin Maestro, it had a two-tone colour scheme of blue and rust. I absolutely loved it though.

The first car that I ever drove was a Peugeot 205, back in the days when there was no such thing as ABS and power steering.

my first car was a Fiat Uno.....IDZ 7084, still remember the Northern Irish number plate......

It was nice of you all to share first car memories but in an attempt to generate activity on this forum, what is your ultimate vehicle if you had unlimited funds and a supportive spouse? I am medically banned but my vehicle of choice would be any ALPINA engineered BMW, just for the hell of it.

But, I like classic cars and a Lotus Cortina interests me, the 1600E especially!

My son is really into to his cars now with the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ his absolute favourite. In recent months we've toured the local dealerships of Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, Mclaren, Bentley, Aston Martin, Lotus and Rolls Royce where each time he has tried to talk me into going in and buying one.

Personally I'd go for a Shelby GT500 or a Pontic Firebird Trans Am, or has he would call them 'cars from the olden times' :ROFLMAO:

I'd love to restore a VW Camper but I just don't think that I could commit the time that one would need to dedicate to such a project.

Excellent choice (y)

I've never really been interested in cars as such. I regard them as a means of getting from A to B or anywhere else in the alphabet. As long as it's comfortable, reliable and in a good state of repair I'm not too bothered what it is. The same applies with car colours although neither my wife nor I stray beyond conservative hues (note the small c - I don't mean nothing but blue).

My first set of wheels was a BSA Bantum a good bike as long as you decoked the exhaust and head about once a month.I got fed up with bikes and got into cars and the first was a anglia 105e kept that 8 months as was offered a good deal on a capri 3ltr. That capri was a good one and went very well and after about 18 months i was offered a good price for the capri and i took it,i regretted it for a long time afterwards. After that had many cars but none matched up to the capri. I think if i thought back over many years i would still have regrets selling the capri. My car at the moment is a Renault capture and its 14 months old i had it new. Its ok as i dont do that many miles now,and with 5500 miles on the clock it reflects i dont go far now.

Mk1 3litre in red was the car of my dreams in the 70s unfortunately i could never afford one

Nothing wrong with a Capri my first company car.

First ever car a 1961 Austin mini 356ENP £125 complete with sliding windows, a bit of cable to open the doors and a starter button on the floor oh and a manual choke which if you didn't use it properly it wouldn't bloody start or you flooded the engine and got the same result. Somehow I progressed to 5 series BMW.

These days it's a Ford Focus which is just finefor what we need.

When did manual chokes cease in new cars? I seem to remember them around in the 1990s. On some makes at least.

Did not most cars migrate to fuel injected engines negating the need for carburation? I learnt to drive in a Metro and there was no choke to pull! Never used a choke myself seems a bit of a faff!

I don't know to be honest my dads first car was a brand new 1963 Morris 1100 772KOP with heater extra, main requirement was he could get our fishing gear in the boot.He actually took a tape measure to the garage to check (not joking)times have changed and we had great times catching not very much.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
