Maybe MJT, KLX and JMK would not work as opposed to JTR. Did TC serve JTR from BHX?

Also anyone think Jet2 are now hoping to be the largest tour operator to Greece as opposed to TUI? Simply amazing for a company that's only 16 years old in Aviation terms.

MJT, KLX and JTR were all served by Thomas Cook which is why it's quite disappointing that we have only seen Jet2 jump in on the latter. Of course it could be as simple as not being able to secure enough beds for the holidays, or fitting the flights into the BHX timetable but hopefully we'll see them for 2021.

I don't remember JMK ever being served from BHX but with my memory that's not to say that is hasn't at some point. If anyone could make it work in the future it would have to be Jet2 :)

Looking at the timetable it seems that Corfu gains a 4th weekly flight.

Jet2 adds stunning Santorini as new destination from Birmingham Airport

The stunning Greek island of Santorini - widely believed to be the source of the Atlantis legend - has been added as a Jet2 destination from summer 2020

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have added stunning Santorini as a new destination from Birmingham Airport.

It means three brand new Greek destinations are available from summer 2020 at Birmingham.

As demand for award-winning flights and holidays to Greece continues, the leading leisure airline and package holiday specialist has announced it will operate a weekly Tuesday service from Birmingham to the island of Santorini in Summer 20.

This will run from May 5 until October 27, with almost 10,000 plane seats on sale in total.

The addition of flights and holidays to Santorini means that Jet2.com and Jet2holidays customers can access a picture-perfect destination which is on many people’s bucket lists.

Visitors can soak up the breathtaking views along the caldera - cliffs around the edge of a sunken volcanic crater from an ancient cataclysm believed to have inspired the story of Atlantis.

Holidaymakers can also see the world-famous sunset at Oia, enjoy the local vineyards, or take in one of a number of key archaeological sites, such as ancient Akrotiri, a Minoan settlement preserved under volcanic ash.

Jet2holidays customers can choose from a great selection of accommodation which ranges from traditional family-run hotels to 5* honeymoon retreats in resorts such as Imerovigli, Kamari, Megalachori, Perissa, Perivolos and Thira.

This latest announcement means that Jet2.com and Jet2holidays will launch three brand new Greek destinations from Birmingham Airport in Summer 20 – Santorini, Skiathos and Preveza.

In total the UK’s third largest airline and second largest tour operator will operate to 11 Greek destinations in Summer 20 - with Corfu, Crete (Heraklion), Crete (Chania), Kefalonia, Kos, Rhodes, Halkidiki and Zante also on sale from Birmingham Airport.

With multiple weekly flights to many of these Greek destinations, it means holidaymakers can enjoy flexibility over the length of their holidays.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: "Local holidaymakers have been asking for us to operate our award-winning flights and holidays to Santorini, and we have responded with this fantastic programme.

"Santorini is famous for its beauty and scenery, and we are absolutely delighted to be launching flights and holidays to such a popular and stunning destination.

"Today’s announcement expands our Greek portfolio from Birmingham Airport once more, further strengthening our brilliant Summer 20 programme."

Tom Screen, aviation director of Birmingham Airport said: "It is great news that Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has added the beautiful destination of Santorini to their portfolio of routes.

"This stunning Greek island is home to some of the most beautiful sunsets and has the most picturesque landscape that visitors can explore.

"Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has clearly listened to its customers by adding these flights for Summer 2020 meaning customers have even more choice from Birmingham Airport."

Emy Anagnostopoulou, director at the Greek National Tourism Organisation’s UK & Ireland Office, said: "We are extremely excited to hear that Jet2.com will be introducing Santorini as another new route in Greece for 2020.

"We would like to thank everyone at Jet2.com for believing in Greece as a unique and authentic destination and for their constant support; we are confident that their customers will not only enjoy Santorini’s celebrated light, the multi-coloured cliffs with the white-washed Cycladic houses, the breathtaking views of the caldera and the delicious gastronomy of the island, but they will also discover its unique cultural treasures like the Akrotiri settlement.

"Holidaymakers will be thrilled by an excursion to the volcano, a swim in the Red Beach and of course by tasting the local wine varieties of Assyrtiko and Vinsanto, while watching the picture-perfect sunset from Oia."

LIS will be served 2x weekly, Mon and Fri from the beginning of April to the end of June.
It then stops until mid September when it resumes 2x weekly (Mon/Fri) until end of October.

Obviously Jet2 don`t see it as a money maker more a gap filler. The airlines all do their homework before a route is
started and have access to what people travel where and from where, I know a new route will attract people but
they need to be certain or at least confident that a destination will be a success

If easyJet can operate Bristol-Lisbon 5 x weekly throughout the year, and have been doing so for many years (I used the route in February 2008), surely BHX has a big enough passenger reservoir to at least match that.

Monarch operated A321's to Lisbon 4x weekly in the summer and 3x weekly throughout the winter and whilst we won't know the yields the numbers were definitely good so I'd like to think that there is scope for more.

At least it is finally back and I'm sure that it is one that will grow steadily over the coming years :)

Slots at Lisbon aren’t cheap or easy to come by so I doubt Jet2 see this a “gap filler” at all - an extra rotation to Tenerife, Alicante or Dalaman would easily fit that bill.
