A friend of mines son started a vocational course in a college in Pembrokeshire in September. After two weeks, someone on his bus contracted Covid and my friends son was told to self isolate for 14 days. He has been phoned every day, each day at a different time, to check if he is complying with the isolation requirement.

From what I've seen written about the subject the consensus is that it would be brigade sized army formed around 3 to 4 battalions of infantry.
I haven't seen anything written about a border force. I'd imagine that it's size would depend on how hard the border with England would be, as the harder the border the more checkpoints required equalling more manpower.
It would be a tricky border to police no doubt as it's 160 miles long.

I watched a video from a vlogger living in Canada but who was from the Netherlands and had returned from Holland as he'd visited family there and had to isolate for 14 day's and he was phoned several times by the Canadian government and the Albertan government checking he was complying with isolation. UK government just doesn't seem organised enough.

as if Wales would ever need a border force. The border with england has to be completely non existent if there’s ever going to be a shot at an independent Wales. Wales will still be heavily reliant on england if independent.

I think one has to remember that England is also dependant on Wales to a certain extent, as all the water supplied to Birmingham, the West Midlands, and Liverpool and Merseyside, comes Welsh catchment areas, where valleys were drowned to create reservoirs.

One of millions of issues that would have a bearing should Wales gain independence, as would be the case with Scotland which is further down the independence path than Wales. I wonder what would happen with such organisations as the Royal Mint and DVLA.

I assume the water would be a valuable export for an independent Wales.

Of course it would have one. It has already international departure points at Pembroke, Fishguard, Holyhead and Cardiff not too mention merchant shipping in and out of the country. Whether it would have post's on the border with England would be down to any agreement between the two countries.

I've seen estimates that just a small tax if 0.001 per litre would bring in something like £800 million in tax revenue a year. There is also electricity. Wales is the 5th largest electricity producer in the world and over produces by 50% but doesn't see a penny for it.
I wonder what would happen with such organisations as the Royal Mint and DVLA.
I expect that they'd move to England and Wales would create its own version of both along with a lot of other civil service jobs.

Wales to go into full lock down from 6pm friday. They are talking 3 weeks lock down, but i have heard 2 weeks,so we will see how long it will be when sorted

2 weeks and I'd imagine that there is the option to go into a third. Will be interesting to see if the rest of the UK does the same.

Friday 23 October until Monday 9 November, although there will be a slight easing for Remembrance Sunday.

Very concerning the Welsh government has decided to do this.

The main breath of the impact will be felt on local business - i’ve just spoken to a friend who is going to lose £50k as they aren’t going to be able to open over half term. Meanwhile, large supermarkets are allowed to stay open, these two weeks could literally be the straw that broke the camels back for some businesses. Mainly those in tourism.

The fact this wasn’t put to a vote in the Welsh parliament is also very disturbing. The hidden cost of the Pandemic, mainly mental health problems, is yet to be seen.

Well they have to do something to stop the rise in cases and relieve pressure off the NHS.
It should've gone for a vote in the Senedd imo that way some ammendments for places like gyms if they can prove they are safe could've been added.
What surprises me though is that WG seem to be going it alone as well which does seem to be annoying some people!

I am not sure locking down the whole of wales helps, there just needs to be stricter enforcement of the current rules and this is someone who lives in a local locked down area.

I wish the Parliament had been consulted on this for democratic purposes. it doesn’t show the WG In very good light. My gym for example is struggling and will probably be struggling even worse for two weeks, they’ve also been fully compliant from the start.

The WG obviously feel that it's needed.
The problem is that the case's go down after 2 weeks lockdown gets lifted but then it all goes up again because people start travelling in and out of Wales moving the virus about. Also there's the economical implication in that although they've announced a support package it's not enough and WG doesn't have the fiscal powers to raise more money to keep the support going.
Personally I suspect that it won't be the only mini lockdown that happens over the winter.

The WG obviously feel it’s needed due to the failure of its own measures. They are behaving like a 3rd world communist government.

The WHO have also advised against any further lockdowns, so why WG aren’t taking that advice i’m not sure. I also believe all the governments get the advice from sage so why 4 different approaches always seem to appear i really do not know.

Drakeford will hopefully be punished at the ballot box next may - if he doesn’t push the election back (hopefully he’ll consult parliament!).

Because you have 4 different governments of 4 different countries of 4 different political parties with 4 different leaders. Each country will assess the data differently and will have different advice per country. There's also 4 different political beliefs that will shape the decisions. If you look at Wales Drakeford is being cautious and prioritising lives over everything else. In England Johnson will prioritise the economy, whereas in Scotland sturgeon will most likely want to show how well Scotland is coping by itself.
In Northern Ireland it'll be even more complicated due to power sharing and the border with southern Ireland.
I think Covid19 is showing how different the needs are of the different countries in the UK.

I hope Drakeford is taking into account the potential suicides, drug and alcohol abuse deaths that are by products of the lockdown when prioritising lives then.

How many cancer referrals will be missed in the next 2 weeks?

1 person died from covid in Wales today, i bet there was at least 2 suicides!

I'm sure he is but the reality is whatever decision he makes will have negative consequences for someone.

How many other people have died from non Covid causes because their treatment especially cancer patients was cancelled or suspended. How many people with serious conditions cannot get to see a specialist because outpatient clinics have been cancelled. I speak from personal experience of the latter. My wife has had major heart surgery and was due to have a follow up appointment in February which was cancelled. She has also had other specialist appointments cancelled. This is not just a problem in Wales but throughout the UK. The slogan may be save the NHS but at what cost to those who are not Covid cases.

I suppose what they have to consider is what would happen if the NHS was overwhelmed by it. A lot of people's treatment has been disrupted by Covid19. My father included, although his condition is not life threatening it's left him in a lot of pain and discomfort while he waits for assessments and an operation on his condition.

Exactly, these lockdowns are choking the country in more ways that are not fully clear yet.

I am all for the masks, covid secure restaurants and work places, but this locking people up in their homes has to stop and we have to move forward.
