Never been to Gran Canaria I have been to Tenerife a long time ago! Maybe next year could be a Canary Island holiday!
Gran Canaria is the major Canary Island I know least about. Only been there once, about 20 years ago. Maybe we should think of a return visit.
Have a great time Brum X and I look forward to reading your impressions when you return.
Don't much remember my holiday to Tenerife! I was 18 and was drunk for the entirety! Though i do remember a mate getting Pesetas to Pound rates muddled and paying £50 for a fake watch that wasn't even worth a tenner!Ive visited both Tenerife and Gran Canaria and i must admit i much prefer Gran Canaria, for one the beaches in Gran Canaria are lovely white sandy beaches whilst in Tenerife they are dark volcanic sand.

Can anybody give me an idea what Puerto Rico is like for a family holiday? I've been having a look and am getting very mixed reviews, some glowing and some pretty horrendous.
I've had a couple of holidays like that to Tenerife. I've ended up with a pair, or two, of fake Ray Bans but to be honest they were pretty good and lasted well.
I did have the chance to go back with my wife just after we met for a more sober holiday, we both thoroughly enjoyed it.
Funny enough I visited Puerto Rico last year with Thomas cook in November, stayed at the Servatur Puerto azul, mid 20s for the trip which was perfect, Lovely hotel in terms of the adult only parts, plenty of family's there too though, big pool, plenty of sunbeds and as an all inclusive package the food wasn't bad at all, think I paid something like £378 from the 9th to the 16th, as for a family holiday I think it will depend on the part you visit, I stayed towards the Europa centre part which was up high on the high side which was lovely, stunning views ( I'll attach a picture ) and it did seem a lot quieter up there than compared to the main Puerto Rico strip seems very lively at night with clubs and pubs open until the very early hours ( did not visit this part ),
beach is lovely there too, golden sands and fairly big so you don't feel cramped , there's also a lovely beach around the corner in Amadores which is only like a 5-10 minute walk around the corner.

I recall staying in the Riu Vistamar overlooking the Amadores beach. Great hotel with great facilities. An odd layout as everythings upside down with the swimming pools on the roof.
Roof top pool RIU Vistamar, An amazing place, I want to go back there!!!!!
La Gomera looks very nice, not sure they have an airport there though?
There is an airport there but it isn't suitable for charter flights from the UK. We were in Tenerife in 1994 (I remember the year for personal reasons) and we took an escorted coach tour from Tenerife to La Gomera. We and the coach travelled by ferry and we then enjoyed a tour of the island.I'm not familiar if they do have one , La Palma has one that looks a tad similar to Maderia, fairy new to the Canary Islands mind, I seem to spend most of my time in the Balearic Islands ( Majorca more often that not)
My wife and I are excited for the vacation we've booked in Spain and definitely we will go to the Canary. Tenerife is one of our eyeing place for our 1st stop There so many thing we want to do. I wanted to know if you have experience travelling to this wonderful Island.
Obviously depending where you are going on your vacation but if you are heading to the mainland then i would recommend Barcelona as it's a beautiful city in the north east of the country and although not Spain i would also recommend a day trip to Gibraltar in the south of the Iberian Peninsula. It's a wonderful town and if you take a taxi tour of the rock you can get some fabulous views of not only Spain but North Africa across the straits. My wife and I are excited for the vacation we've booked in Spain and definitely we will go to the Canary.
