Thank you to Ray Finkle for allowing me to create this post...
Wellesbourne Airfield is facing the prospect of imminent closure because the landowners have decided to demolish a large number of buildings on the site.
The shocking news is a major blow to businesses at the airfield who've been waging a major campaign - supported by the Stratford Herald newspaper and Landed Aviation who's employees regularly use the airfield - to avoid being thrown off the site when the lease expires on Christmas Eve.
It also especially embarrassing for Stratford District Council because the authority has given repeated pledges to preserve the location for aviation purposes, but it was via the council itself that the landowners, the Littler family, have been able to override the authorities policy by putting in an application - known as Section 80 notice - to carry out the demolition and getting the application accepted.
Wellesbourne Airfield is not part of the Core Strategy for housing development but could become a reserve site should the demolition go ahead.
Wellesbourne is home of Take Flight Aviation, Heli Air, On-Track Aviation, Wellesbourne Aviation Musuem, South Warwickshire Flying School, The Touchdown Cafe and resident Avro Vulcan XM655.
Wellesbourne is the 2nd busiest general aviation airfield in the UK, quite possibly the busiest if you measure by the hour considering it's not open 24/7
Wellesbourne is a very friendly airfield and was voted the best light aviation airfield in the UK by the "Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association" last year.
