TAP Air Portugal has reportedly reintroduced its service to Johannesburg as of late December 2024. The first flight, initially planned for the period of December 27-28, 2024, marked the airline’s return to this route after a long absence. While the service was originally intended to operate until January 31-February 1, 2025, a subsequent update during the week of January 6, 2025, extended the schedule significantly, now including flights into 2026. This revival of flights is a strategic move, not only for TAP Air Portugal but also for the broader aviation and tourism industries, as Johannesburg regains connectivity to Europe via Lisbon. The effects of this expansion are expected to ripple across the global travel landscape.

Revised Flight Itineraries and Aircraft Details

The airline has announced that it will operate three weekly flights on the Lisbon-Maputo-Johannesburg-Lisbon route. However, during the specific period from January 19 to March 1, 2025, the sequence will temporarily adjust to Lisbon-Johannesburg-Maputo-Lisbon. This slight alteration in the routing is intended to enhance operational efficiency and cater to passenger demand.

The flights will be conducted using the state-of-the-art Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, a choice that underscores TAP’s commitment to sustainability and passenger comfort. The scheduled flights during this period are as follows:

  • Flight TP2655: Departure from Lisbon (LIS) at 14:40, arriving in Johannesburg (JNB) at 03:15 the following day. The flight proceeds to Maputo (MPM) at 04:00, reaching its destination by 05:15. It then returns to Lisbon, departing Maputo at 06:45 and arriving at 15:40 the same day.
  • Operates three times weekly on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
This schedule reflects a carefully planned service that aims to streamline connections between Southern Africa and Europe

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
