Don't forget TheLocalYokel that the Eastern Airways scheduled I posted are the Leeds/Bradford arrival and departure times only.

So all the Bristol timings will be different by about an hour earlier for the outbounds and about hour later for the inbounds.

Indeed.

I'd overlooked that in my haste to plagiarise your post from the LBA section, though with due acknowledgement of course so perhaps it wasn't quite plagiarism.

I wonder why there seems only to be a northbound service on Sundays. Aircraft availability or commercial decision?

Here are the Bristol TImings for Eastern's revised Leeds/Bardford - Aberdeen services for the summer 2012 schedule

Many thanks, lbaspotter.

G-WOWB left on Saturday 3/3 with her new reg C-FEAI and is on her way to Air Inuit in Quebec Canada, WA will be joining her at the end of the month, the two aircraft have been together since their Brymon days so it looks like there in separable!

A sad day for those of us who have had the pleasure to work on WB during its Air Southwest and short Easton life!

I've never flown in a Dash 8-300, or a 400 for that matter (though I hope to put the latter right before too many weeks have passed).

I suppose G-WOWA and G-WOWB would both have been G-BRY# in Brymon days.

Very sad that the final traces of the Brymon company will soon be gone, though of course Brymon was a fully-owned subsidiary of BA in its final years before becoming part of BACitiexpress then BAConnect.

Brymon's spiritual home at Plymouth City Airport is now closed too.

Strange that two New Zealanders should make such a valuable contribution to South West aviation.

I'm not a huge motor racing fan but I do remember going to Silverstone in the very early 1960s (probably 1961 or 1962) and seeing Chris Amon competing in the British Grand Prix that year. I don't know how the link-up with Bill Bryce came about.

It looks as though the Eastern BRS-LBA-ABZ route will cease to operate from 19 April, though the LBA-ABZ leg seems to be continuing.

No doubt the non-stop jet-operated bmi regional BRS-ABZ has taken its toll.

The timings weren't particularly good so it doesn't come as a huge surprise but it's yet another nail in the coffin of domestic air travel caused by the lack of government support and it isn't as if there's a realistic alternative between Bristol and Leeds.

Pax numbers on the LBA service have been pretty dire for months now, so not a surprise to be honest. It was only a matter of time before this happened, BMI have probably been taking the lion's share of the ABZ traffic being a direct jet service. Wonder if BMI will give LBA a go.........
BMI continue to make noises about further route announcements to come later this year, I guess only time will tell.

Nice thought for our Leeds based forum friends alphagolf but there's no chance of that happening now as the Leeds based aircraft is now in the process of being moved to Bristol with the Leeds base closing completely.

There is an hourly direct train service for most of the day but it takes around three and a half hours in each direction.

That's a pain but if you take into account, say, half an hour getting from city centre from/to airport at either end, arriving at each airport at least half an hour before the flights, then the flight itself you're looking at nigh on three hours overall each way by air.

The much greater train frequency is obviously attractive for many.

I travelled by train from Bristol to Leeds last year and it was an enjoyable journey (but it was for leisure and I like train travel anyway).

In 2007 37,000 flew between Bristol and Leeds. In 2012 this was down to just over 8,000. Bristol-Manchester went the same way several years ago when Air Southwest axed the route well before the airline itself ceased to exist.

There's an hourly direct train service between Bristol and Manchester that takes three hours.

Bristol-Newcastle (easyJet) is still the busiest air route between two English provincial cities with 171,000 carried in 2012 but this is down from the 246,000-250,000 carried in each of 2005, 2006 and 2007.

There is an hourly train service between Bristol and Newcastle (the same trains that go via Leeds) but the journey to Tyneside from Bristol takes five hours which is probably beyond the 'tipping point' of rail over air.

Given Leeds' presence as a major economic centre I wonder if easyJet has ever considered trying a BRS-LBA. They probably judge that the trains provide just too much realistic competition.

Wonder if BMI will give LBA a go.........

Do you mean routing the BRS-ABZ via LBA? That would put them in competition with Eastern again on the LBA-ABZ sector.

Just thinking about a BRS - LBA, like you said no point in competing with eastern on the LBA - ABZ.

eastern's reliability/on time performance has not been something to be proud of recently, not withstanding that it pitches itself at the higher end of the market. Don't think personally its be been delivering on that basis.

Always bad to see an airline pull out, but with a direct jet operated BRS - ABZ service was always going to win in the end.

I have heard through the pipeline that it is due to BMI regional losing the contract for the Airbus charters to Tolouse and Hawrden/Broughton in wales. So Eastern have been awarded the contract to serve these executive charters for Airbus in Bristol. May it open Bristol as a commercial destination? Who knows but that is why Bristol is being recruited for a 'base' :pleasantry:

Hope this helps!

Darn I couldn't apply as I am to tall at 5'10", above the maximum height of 5'7"!!

I wonder what type of aircraft they will use for the Airbus shuttle. I believe they have a couple of ERJ145s, otherwise it will be Saab 2000 or Jetstream 41.

Looking at the current schedule on some days a bmir ERJ 145 arrives at BRS in the morning before any outbound aircraft would have time to get out there and back from BRS. In the evenings there are days when ERJ145s depart from BRS for TLS and CEG with no return that evening.

This suggests that some aircraft overnight at TLS and CEG, although Mayfly timings indicate that at least one aircraft spends the night at BRS.

Looking at next week's Mayfly there seems to be a combination of bmir and Eastern on the Toulouse and Hawarden Airbus Corporate Shutttle flights. Eastern is using ER4s as bmir does and on some days the Mayfly timetable appears to call for at least two Eastern ER4s.

Have the timings changed? Its usually between 7-8 am and 4-6 pm. Both go south side to the Flying Centre

Eastern takes over on 4th
