Compared to summer its a big imbalance. I dont think logistics are any different.

Summer is a bigger market. Skiing is niche in comparison.

Logistical wise it's very different and there's a lot more risk. Weather causing road blockages is first one that comes to mind, the next is the potential injuries. Why not allow someone to take seats on the aircraft and take all that risk?

The Ski Market is also volatile and not predictable. With the sun market they know they've got decent weather for a prolonged period that they can sell holidays too. Ski market is reliant on Snow and booking are usually very late. Again another reason to leave to the experts....

There is very little chance of Jet2holidays expanding into Ski market.

I think they will. As long as competitors like Tui etc are making money from it Jet2 will see it as an opportunity sooner or later. Especially when they have expanded their fleet they are going to have a lot of aircraft sitting around in winter.

That's where winter sun comes in. And longer destinations such as Egypt, Cape Verde and maybe additional charters. Remember Thomas Cook/Monarch did the Banjul charters on behalf of a banjul holiday company.

I don't think they'll ever touch it. It's too much of a risk, too volatile, not predictable in income and would lead to loss making. Why not get someone else in to take care of all the holiday part and they provide the flights from a to b and back to a. After all there are a number of holiday operators that don't have an airline that provide ski holidays.

Providing seats for other operators is one income stream, but as they found with Summer sun, taking control by offering the full package is more profitable and gives them far more control.

I dont think there is much more growth in winter sun from Leeds to their existing destinations so as you say longer haul would permit expansion but still not enough to keep a big fleet busy. I think skiing should be a bigger part of the mix

We shall see!

It was more to do with competition then taking control. Why have an allocation of Thomson/TUI when the airline can have them to share between holidays/.com.

Ski has niche operators which jet2 have a good relationship with. Those niche operators take that risk, with ski been volatile market with weather unpredictable.

Jet2holidays ski won’t happen before long haul. I don’t see them going into ski at all. They’ve got the largest tour operator without ski, they don’t need it.

Growth has to come from somewhere. The nature of businesses is they are greedy and don't leave avenues unexplored- they want it all! Anyway let's see what direction growth takes them in

I wonder if Jet2holidays have thought about Morocco with any future expansion from LBA. Marrakech and Agadir both do very well with other operators. They fit both winter and summer sun and similar flight time to Madeira/Canaries. Morocco is also relatively stable and safe. I’ve been to Agadir, purpose built, good beach and decent temperature in winter, it may be worth a punt for them?

Agree. However to get to top spot without any Ski operations means that they can continue without it. It's unnecessary. Only TUI offer what you would class as a package ski holidays - Monarch/Thomas Cook did flights to the slopes on behalf of other tour operators that specialised in the ski package holiday. I'd be doubtful of easyJet offering also.

Earlier in the thread I posted that easyJet have done an agreement with Morocco government/tourist board to double their presence in Morocco. Definitely a gap for Jet2/Jet2holidays to fill.

According to Jethro's today, a further three 2nd hand B737-800's are due to Jet2 this year.

All three are currently at Shannon, are ex Flyr, and are all around the 9.5-10 year old.

G-JZDA - ex LN-FGA
G-JZDB - ex LN-FGC
G-JZDC - ex LN-FGB

Quite a few 2nd hand additions to the fleet this year.
