Despite the much reduced flying programme Jet2 are to keep temporary cabin crew previously advised as being made redundant on furlough until October 31st, which will take them almost up to the end of their contracts. They will receive 80% of their basic pay with the airline making an increasing contribution under the revised Government scheme. Considering the treatment of staff at other airlines Jet2 has got to be one of the best to work for. Hopefully many from this pool of trained staff will be re- hired in 2021.

Nothing new. This was the original number if you look back the article which was put out in mid July if not earlier re: office and cabin crew redundancies.

102 pilots redundant this year so will that result in a large decrease of flights next year, would they not be short of pilots or would they just hope the ones made redundant this year will come back to jet2? Are jet2 the only ones not flying to mainland spain and the islands now, Ryanair are still but what about easyjet and tui?

These pilots are excellent and hopefully will find work elsewhere quickly. Middle East forces were recruiting for trainers up until recently ...so hopefully they will get decent jobs quickly.

easyJet are still flying to Mainland Spain, the Canaries & Balearics. TUI are only flying to Greece and Turkey.

Wonder what the terms of employment are for pilots? Obviously far more required in Summer than Winter so what do the surplus pilots do in the Winter months (apart from training perhaps)?

I believe with easyjet and cabin crew its a case of just less hours work during the winter period so no crew laid off.

Very different employment model for Easyjet where you may have a zero hour contract and have to bid for your flights each month.

I have seen an easyjet rota although this was a couple of years back now, and as far as im aware I don't think its a zero hours contract, all crew have work but just a lot less hours, all crew have standby days as well where they are literally a prisoner in their own home, so if another crew member does not turn in for work the standby crew member has to be at the airport in a very short space of time, so the uniform has to be there ready and waiting a bit like a fire fighter would quickly put their stuff on.

I did that for around 40 years fight2win and most airlines operate in the same way however starter crews at Easyjet were being put on zero hour contracts after type and line training was complete. This may not be the same now as my contacts with the industry have dried up since I retired.

Jet2 have knocked back the Mainland Spain and Balearic restart by a week but are holding firm on the Canary islands and Portugal pending today’s announcement. Have they had the wink as I’m sure it’s been mentioned they have a weekly conference call where they get some idea whats going on despite the PR?

"Because of the current FCO travel advice to all areas of Spain, we’ve suspended flights to the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote) up to and including 22 August 2020. We’ve also suspended flights to Mainland Spain (Alicante and Malaga) and the Balearic Islands (Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza) up to and including 29 August 2020. And as the government hasn’t changed its advice regarding travel to Mainland Portugal from the UK, we’ve suspended city breaks to Faro up to and including 23 August 2020 too.

Where customers are affected by any programme changes, we’ve been repeatedly recognised for how we’ve been looking after them, offering the option to rebook with no admin fee, a Refund Credit Note or a full cash refund, and we’ll continue to do this.

For bookings due to travel to Mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and Mainland Portugal after the dates outlined above, we’re continuing to monitor the situation very closely and will provide an additional update once we receive further information from the government.

We once again urge the government to implement a targeted approach to travel advice, instead of the current blanket ban approach.

No change to Canary Islands. Also, not related to Jet2 but Austria and Croatia now added to quarantine list.

Why is Croatia not related to Jet2? They fly to three Croatian destinations, Pula, Split and Dubrovnik (the latter suspended from LBA until next summer but until now, operational again from MAN). Potentially it's 3 routes lost and only 1 gained, albeit a busy one and just in time for the golfing season on the Algarve.
