A poster in the Dried Plum says that Eurowings will begin a seasonal Stuttgart route in 2018.

No further details but excellent news if true.

Fantastic news if that's true. Stuttgart was mentioned as an airport a while ago that they were in detailed talks with along with Munich. Eurowings seem to do well with their seasonal Dusseldorf flight so no reason to think that Stuttgart wouldn't be equally as popular. Three German cities for Newquay in 2018 would be a great scoop!

According to the 'informant' on that other board I quoted at the beginning of this thread the Stuttgart will arrive on Saturdays at 1125 and depart at 1155 (EW 2798/9) with the Dusseldorf arriving on Saturdays 1040 and departing at 1115 (EW 9346/7)
 
Wonder if it will be an A319/20? Düsseldorf was upgraded to the abi e a few years back

Seems strange there is no press coverage as yet on the new Stuttgart route. There usually pretty on it down here with the airport. Pleanty on the German sites..
 
I emailed the airport today with regards to the new Stuttgart flight. I received the following response...

Thanks for your message. We are led by the airlines themselves on new route announcements, so it is something that we are unable to announce officially until Eurowings have done so. It is a very good piece of news though, we are looking forward to the new route.

They seem to have announced in Germany. Either way confirmed and a welcome addition to the route network..

I think their best option would be KLM. I'd imagine if BA wanted to serve Cornwall they would be doing so already with a 2 daily LHR plus a BA link could effect Flybe's LGW route which I believe is doing quite well.

The report says that NQY is on course to reach its target of 600,000-650,000 passengers a year, although no timescale is mentioned.
KLM I think will be there target. BA have done nothing as yet from LHR and Willy Walsh has previously said nope as far as Newquay are concerned. The CEO at NQY has also verbalised KLM as a target. As for KLM itself, it's successfully connected the UK to Amsterdam from more UK airports than any other airline as far as I can see and it's feeder flights to onward connecting flights, particularly east, work well. Having said all that, Germany is a big market but I believe this is more inbound. Watch this space...
 
Malaga and Las Palmas would be good ones for Ryanair to pick up or maybe even Vueling for Malaga. Hamburg could be a target with Eurowings. Obviously Amsterdam would be KLM and I'm very surprised Flybe don't do Edinburgh already.
 
I have a meeting with Newquay Airport in December and am looking forward to hear about their plans and in particular route development.

I will share as much as I can after the meeting so watch this space.
 
NQY is a big inbound tourist airport in summer from the UK but particularly from Germany, with Cornwall being exceptionally popular with Germans, hence the Hahn and Dusseldorf routes and (I believe) a new Stuttgart route starting next summer. Hamburg would be an unsurprising addition to this market.

Currently Ryanair is only operating its sun routes (Faro and Alicante) in summer. I can't remember if it operated year-round to one of the Costas some years ago before it withdrew mainly because of the NQY departure tax. A winter Canaries route ought also to be successful.

Amsterdam with KLM must surely be the big prize to be chased though, not least for the obvious connectivity opportunities.

I know they are focused on a year round sun route and I guess they are thinking Ryanair for that, although with things the way have been of late with RA, I don’t feel as if that’s in the pipeline just yet.. KLM I agree is the big prize and believe this is something they have been chasing for a while.
Fur me, palma is obvious and I believe RA have a base there so who knows. Malaga was done by monarch during a winter some years ago but ended over the £5 quid departure tax issue. Again I think that would do well. I think if Stuttgart goes well then Hamburg or another German city should happen.
All great things for the airport if some of the above comes to fruition.
one things for sure... if it does, it needs to move into private hands and some serious money spent. This year has felt like chaos on some departure days
 
With Cardiff getting a 3rd based aircraft and it's highly likely that Norwegian, Freebird and Eurowings won't return does anyone think that it could be an opportunity for TUI to use those airlines to operate to NQY? Eurowings does a weekly PMI, Norwegian a weekly TFS and Freebird a weekly Antalya and Dalaman. Would all or some of those be feasible from NQY as that would mean TUI would cover all 3 South West airports then.

I'm not sure the two are mutually dependent. In summer 2018 BRS will have an additional based TUI aircraft meaning the need for third party carriers is reduced, possibly eliminated. That did not lead to NQY being introduced.

I suspect that if TUI wanted to operate to NQY it would and would find aircraft whether third party or their own aircraft from other bases operating 'W' diagrams.

A week off work done which resulted in 6 day trips , 50 miles walked and only 2500 photos, Going to work is more of a holiday as I tended to be out of my flat an hour earlies in my week off and back for after 8pm
according to some people, you only need 1 day in each of the Yorkshire Dales, North Wales and Lake District "to have seen it all". Which is why its minibus tour number 3 this year of the Yorkshire Dales for me on 16th October. Different routes and different things to see each tour.

I've done 2 minibus tours with Mountain Goat this week. Monday was North York Moors with over 600 photos and today High Adventure in the Lakes with 750. photos. Slightly snap happy.
