No cancellations today it seems but easyJet appears to be suffering some delays.

EZY6052 from Malaga due at 1205 is showing an eta of 2300.
EZY6058 from Malaga due at 0130 (Tue) is showing an eta of 0345
EZY6030 from Barcelona due at 2325 is showing an eta of 0125 (Tue)
EZY6045 to Palma due to depart at 1945 left at 2107

Earlier EZY6086 from Basel due at 1745 landed at 2002
EZY448 from Belfast Int due at 1915 landed at 2117

It's good to see that everyone has worked very hard to ensure the flights operate.

Today's cancellations.

easyJet EZY6147 to Porto at 1855 returning as EZY6148 at 2320 cancelled - nothing obvious as to reason with no very long delays to any inbounds prior to the 1845 departure time

flybmi BM2008 from Brussels due 2125 cancelled, although outbound BM2007 at 1735 is shown as 'departed' on airport website

Thomas Cook TCX1472 to Heraklion at 1755 appears to be in for a very lengthy delay. The airport departures page merely shows 'Next Info' (I hope the passengers are being given more information than this). The return is due at 0310 on Wed but has now been removed from the BRS web site arrivals page.

Speaking of long delays, a friend of my son was on the easyJet from Malaga due BRS at lunchtime yesterday which suffered a delay in excess of ten hours. The man said that they received virtually no information as the day progressed. He wasn't bothered about the reason and wasn't expecting a detailed explanation for it, but he did expect to be kept informed as to the likely return time or any alternative arrangements. He complained that there appeared to be no easyJet representative prepared to address the issue (it would probably have been someone from the handling company anyway but that's down to easyJet).

Whilst we only have the man's version this sort of thing seems only too common, with many airlines, so there must be an underlying truth about airlines' inability to keep their customers informed when things go wrong.

In the interests of balance, I'll mention an occasion I reported last year when my son and his cricket team were due to fly home from Madrid to BRS with easyJet one Sunday evening. The flight was cancelled but a rescue aircraft was sent out the following morning. My son and his colleagues could not praise easyJet highly enough for the way they kept everyone informed and arranged a hotel and an evening meal there. So it can be done.

One cancellation today:

flybmi BM1841 to Munich at 0630 returning as BM1842 at 1140.

Thomas Cook TCX1473 from Heraklion that should have landed at 0310 this morning was delayed and landed at 1837 this evening.

Three easyJet cancellations today:

EZY421 to Edinburgh at 0715 returning as EZY422 at 1010
EZY405 to Glasgow at 1625 returning as EZY406 at 1915
EZY570 to Newcastle at 1950 returning as EZY569 at 2225, although as it sometimes does the BRS website is hedging its bets and shows the return flight as both cancelled and with an expected arrival of 0115 on Tuesday

easyJet from Athens is nearly seven hours late this evening and EZY from Rome fours late which might, I assume, be partly the reason for some of the later cancellations.

When do the first reductions in flights/rotations/charters begin now that we are into meterological autumn and schools are starting soon.

I seem to ask this question every year and recall that the answer is November.

The Edinburgh flight is always full. To cancel a Monday flight must have left 189 pax fuming. Lots of compensation claims on that one for sure.

Winter timetable comes into effect Sunday 28th October for schedules carriers. Charters will possibly start to slow from now with the school holidays being over.

Summer scheduled run, officially, from last weekend in March through until last weekend in October, but you will find a lot of charters won't start until May.

Hope that helps a little.

I don't know why the first EDI of the day was cancelled. The cancelled GLA and NCL later in the day might have been a direrct result of major delays on the Athens and Rome flights.

The next easyJet rotation to EDI was at lunchtime, then mid afternoon with two in the evening. GLA has four rotations but the cancelled one was the penultimate and the cancelled NCL was the last of three rotations. So not much in terms of alternatives for GLA and NCL. EDI, despite five rotations, is usually sold out or nearly so across the board, with GLA and NCL not far behind.

easyJet does seem to run close to the bone in summer with any delays with preceeding aircraft leading to cancellations; at BRS anyway and from posts I've read elsewhere at other easyJet airports too.

I've used easyJet at BRS numerous times since they began to fly from there 15/16 years ago and I've been lucky (fingers tightly crossed) in that I've not experienced any last minute cancellations or major delays. However, over ten years ago easyJet had crewing problems across its network and cancelled many flights in June that year. The cancellations were pre-arranged and I had two rotations cancelled (EDI and NCL by coincidence) and was given a couple of weeks notice of the cancellations.

I don't fly anything like as much as I once did (I no longer enjoy the experience - from queues at airports to what seems to me an increasing likelihood of flights being cancelled at the last minute), but there are times when there is no alternative so perhaps my luck with cancellations will run out soon.

All flight screens at airport not working. Major technical hitch. Using notice boards. Website not displaying any arrivals times. Will make news reports on TV soon.

Still no information on the web arrivals page so presumably the flight information screens at the airport are still not working either. This situation has now been running for over 12 hours.

The home page of the airport website carries this notice.

Passengers travelling today are advised to arrive early and allow extra time for check-in and boarding processes. We are working to resolve the technical problems with our flight information screens. Flights remain unaffected.

Details of check-in desks, boarding gates and arrival and departure times will be made over the public address system while we work to fix this. Additional staff are on hand to assist passengers in the terminal.

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused to passengers during this time.

The IT issue has now lasted over 24 hrs. No resolution yet.
Seems it still is - now well into the second day. Unlike yesterday when at least all the arriving and departing aircraft were shown on the relevant BRS airport web site pages, albeit with no arrival or departure details other than the scheduled times, a check today reveals, "No flights were found'.

No end in sight it seems to what the local paper says the airport is calling 'technical problems'.
