Wx Diverts

4 diverts away from BRS last night due to gusty winds affecting the airfield:

3 x EZY (PFO, GVA & LPA) diverted to LGW
1 x FR (ALC) diverted to STN

It seems there’s storms and hail in todays forecast for the airfield too.
It seems there were strong southerly winds at one point yesterday evening bringing the full crosswind component to BRS's east/west runways.

It must have been relatively short-lived as four aircraft (two easyJet and two Jet2) landed in the 25 minutes after midnight.

There were complaints from some passengers about the diversions - see linked press report in the BRS easyJet thread.

Monday 4 April 2022

There have been reports in the press in recent days of easyJet and other airlines having to cancel numerous flights because of staff shortages through Covid sickness. easyJet has cancelled a handful of BRS flights over the past few days as discussed in the BRS easyJet thread.

Today easyJet cancelled Murcia, Kos and Corfu with Aer Lingus cancelling Dublin. That's four out of today's 83 airline departures which might suggest that thus far BRS continues to be less affected than some airports.

Further to the previous post, this week the total airline daily departure numbers have been in the range 75-85 depending on day of the week.

I saw no cancellations shown on Tuesday or Wednesday which is encouraging considering the number of BRS departures and the number that easyJet and other airlines have been cancelling across the network because of Covid.

On Thursday 7 April four departures were cancelled - all easyJet (one of their three daily Amsterdam, Bordeaux, Olbia and Mahon). Intriguingly a mid-afternoon Ryanair from Arrecife was diverted to East Midlands yesterday when everything else appeared to be landing normally at BRS.

Today (8 April) there were two cancellations - both easyJet to Krakow and Dubrovnik.

According to flight radar and social media Easyjet have cancelled some of their departures late this afternoon and evening.
U2447 15.50 to Belfast
U26235 16.10 to Paris Orly
U2405 16.20 to Glasgow
U26075 19.45 to Alicante
U2570 20.15 to Newcastle

You can now add to this list:
- 13:20 BIO
- 13:25 DLM
- 13:45 LIS
- 14:95 INV
Unfortunately the easyJet app does not give any reason as to why these flights are cancelled, however they do absolve themselves of any responsibility by saying the circumstances “are outside of their control” - personally I find that hard to believe given the huge media storm regarding lack of staff across the whole aviation industry.

Quite the day!

So again I was correct; it is well within their own control as it’s their own IT system issue - nothing to do with any third party…

EasyJet flights cancelled after “system failure”

The things they’ll do and say to avoid paying compensation :cautious:

And of course not crew related.

Seems the TUI (GTUMM) bound for JTR experienced a lightning strike after take off and returned to BRS.

It routed out as per normal and turned around once it was over western Germany. It was in flight for around 2hrs.

Just to add to TUIs woes, the inbound SID (G-TUIC) diverted to BHX this morning just before touchdown already delayed by 3+ hours.

Not sure what happened as the weather seemed ok at BRS early this morning however there has been a warning of strong winds in place since around 9am, but it got right down to 918ft before diverting and didn't try a further landing there...

Inbound EI3280 from DUB (EI-GZV) diverted to CWL this morning with the return EI3281 cancelled.

Not sure of the reason but presumably the strong winds?

The aircraft then flew empty back to DUB.

FlightRadar24 shows 2 diverts this evening - presumably due to low visibility:

- FR6220 (KRK-BRS) diverted to CWL
- LS1862 (CMF-BRS) diverted to BHX

It seems the LH972 (FRA-BRS) was able to land on second attempt.

Potentially more disruption to come today given the fog situation out there…

Some #diverts this evening:

- LS1828 from FUE has diverted to BHX (scheduled to return to BRS at 21:30)
- EZY6142 from TLS has diverted to CWL
- EZY6278 from SSH has diverted to CWL

I am led to believe this isn't weather related but a runway "maintenance issue".

BRS currently snow closed until 11:00

WizzAir from KTW and FR from DUB both diverted to BHX

...all outbounds delayed until airfield reopens!

I'd expect cancellations as the delays roll on-and-on

Seems the airfield reopened at 10:45 this morning, however as yet there have been no departures.

So far, todays cancellations (not all due to snow, some are due to industrial action in France) are:
  • EasyJet x 10 - VCE, BFS, NCL, EDI, TLS, ORY, AMS, CDG, GLA, GVA
  • Lufthansa x 1 - FRA
  • WizzAir x 1 - KTW
Meanwhile the snow continues to fall with no sign of letting off - and is forecast to fall until 03:00

❄️🌨️⛄

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
