Calling Ryanair parasites a bit overboard. Yes they have a specific business model that some might not like but they do provide a lot of affordable flights from many of the regional airports that airlines like BA and Easyjet don't. As for Southend not needing them well Stobart obviously thought they did to invest in them. It would be ironic though if Easyjet left but Ryanair stayed at Southend.

Very true they do off links from numerous regional airports offering economic travel....and I would add, they have a great on-time record.

I can only speak as I find. For many years my wife refused to use Ryanair because she had read and heard so much about their supposed cavalier attitude towards their customers. I did eventually persuade her to give them a try and we hopped over to Dublin and back.

No complaints whatever and one of their handling staff at DUB went out of his way to be helpful when we had a query on our return flight.

My wife and I would not hesitate to use them again on that experience.

You always hear the negative things in which ever industry. It does not hear as much of the good points which is sad. I have heard many good points at Ryanair over the years.I think in a lot of airlines or firms you have to make the mind up about them.

I use them quite often, and there are things about them I don't like, like their ever changing baggage policy, however otherwise they get e from my preferred departure airport to where I want to go. So that's fine by me.

Wow that’s put Southend in a bad Position. First easyjet and now Ryanair have they got anything left can only think of a few wizz flights to Romania.

How SEN's fortunes have waned. Three years ago it seemed airlines were flocking to the airport, not just easyJet and Ryanair either.

Now the rush is in the other direction. It shows again the fragility of the industry at the moment.

It does show how the fortunes of smaller airports are so fragile.
God help if wizz decided to scrap all flights there. It’s only them now still operating something outtta SEN. maybe the decision always to scrap a base at Southend is because most airlines that have had bases there in the past have much larger presences at neighboring London airports.

Ryanair have STN which is right next to SEN
Easyjet- Have a large presence at both LTN and LGW
With Wizz I think with them having Luton it puts them off operating much out of SEN as I’ve only seen wizz do flights to Bucharest from Southend.

Another big blow to Southend but let’s hope Ryanair might still do some flights out of SEN using away based aircraft instead.

It's a great shame. It acted, in good times, as a profitable overflow airport to catch some of the main London catchment areas customers. And clearly profitable. I wonder how happy the NIMBY's and Locals who hate aviation and airports (but love £20 flights to Canary Islands) will be. And don't even get me started on the green extremists. Will Ryanair completely shut the base and not operate into the airport at all? Or will they operate from away bases?

Yet another blow for local airports and the industry all together.

I wonder if Wizz will set up shop and try make something of the left over's of easyJet and Ryanair though?

Quite so, before all that and I guess they had a runway extension there, or the cottages which objected for years at one end of the main runway, were removed, Southend had very little going on. First time I visited was back in the BAF days, pretty much Channel Islands and the odd operation to places like Ostend.

People, find everything to moan at aviation. I’ve watched a couple appear on itvs this morning who live next to SEN airport and talk about how noisy it is when they live literally next to the taxi way. Don’t live near an airport if it’s to noisy I say because what are they expecting full silence?

It’s disappointing to see that Ryanair have made this decision but I wonder if they might do some flights using away based planes.

Hopefully yes, Im sure Southend serves South Essex and North Kent quite well, and a more pleasant travel experience than some larger airports like Stansted for example.

Well over 4 million steps taken this year already. And about 12,500 photos.
The joys of travel. Train from Edinburgh to Leeds is cancelled so having another night in Edinburgh and heading back in the morning!
Tbf Edinburgh isn't a bad city to be stuck in.
A week off work done which resulted in 6 day trips , 50 miles walked and only 2500 photos, Going to work is more of a holiday as I tended to be out of my flat an hour earlies in my week off and back for after 8pm
according to some people, you only need 1 day in each of the Yorkshire Dales, North Wales and Lake District "to have seen it all". Which is why its minibus tour number 3 this year of the Yorkshire Dales for me on 16th October. Different routes and different things to see each tour.
Apologies for any issues today, I was planning on updating the site but sadly something went wrong so the upgrade has been postponed. Apologies again for any inconvenience caused.
