That's encouraging news. Hopefully Ryanair will see sense and postpone the winter cull. What were the ATM's because that alongside the passenger figures will give an indication on the loads?

A total of 192,336 passengers passed through Glasgow Prestwick Airport during August -5.5% up on August last year. Rolling year passengers stand at 1,694,834 down -16.5%

It is typical of Prestwick's luck that, just when things seem to be improving (passenger figures for June, July and August all up on last year), Jet 2 have now announced a base in Glasgow, from March 2011, with 9 routes, 4 of which are served by Ryanair from Prestwick. This will inevitably have an effect on PIK's passenger figures next year.

October passenger stats
A total of 178,658 passengers passed through Glasgow Prestwick Airport during October 16.6% up on October last year. Rolling year passengers stand at 1,740,481 down -8.8%
Stats provided by the CAA.
A gradual climb towards neutral territory with the rolling year figures and a significant improvement for the month of October.

Good news for PIK. I wish Ryanair would, however, show a bit more restraint in suspending routes from the winter timetable, and NOT reinstating them from the summer timetable - the latest examples being Gothenburg and Brussels Charleroi. Both of these long-standing PIK routes are now, like many others, operating from Edinburgh and have ceased for good from PIK. Also, the PIK route to STN is a measly 1 per day from April and throughout the summer, with a departure of 0650 from PIK, returning from STN at 0830 - hardly ideal departure times, particularly for those travelling up from STN to PIK (you would have to leave the centre of the capital at a ludicrously early time, unless you are willing to spend the night at STN, prior to the flight!) Easyjet must be rubbing their hands Ryanair's decision, as it must be giving them a lot of extra custom on the GLA to STN route. I know Ryanair will trot out the old excuse of it being due to excessive airport taxes on domestic flights, but surely a route like PIK to STN could at least justify another flight per day in the evening.

The airport saw passenger numbers fall significantly compared with last January
Prestwick Airport has suffered a sharp decline in passenger numbers this winter, down by 40% in recent months.
Since Ryanair cut back on its winter schedule, the Ayrshire airport has shed about 40 staff, out of more than 400, some by compulsory redundancy.
The air hub has been boosted by bad winter weather, forcing diversions from snow-bound inland airports.
But that has been overshadowed by Ryanair focusing traffic from north and central Europe on Edinburgh.
Domestic traffic has fallen steeply, and there are fewer flights linking to Stansted.
Passenger traffic in January fell to 61,000 from 103,000 in January 2010. In the previous two years, passengers for that month were at 131,000 and 145,000.
Ryanair's new strategy is to use the Ayrshire airport more for outbound summer holiday flights, though with this year's capacity down on last year by about 15%.
That has meant Prestwick expects to hire about 60 seasonal workers.
The number of aircraft rotations with the start of the summer timetable this month is falling from 138 per week during last summer to 120 this summer, while it currently has about 60 in the winter schedule.
While looking for other airlines to use the airport - Wizz is the only other significant operator, linking to Gdansk and Warsaw - its operators fear the rise in air passenger tax will hurt business further.
Prestwick is owned by Infratil, an infrastructure investment company based in New Zealand.
Its most recent results for the year to last March show a loss of £3.6m in operations at its European airports, including Prestwick, Kent and, for part of that year, Lubeck. In the year to March 2009, the loss topped £7m.
Iain Cochrane, managing director of Prestwick Airport, said the sunshine destination market was "more seasonal but reasonably predictable, in terms of the Scottish desire to go to the sunshine".
But he added: "It's a very difficult market at the moment. Taxation is a big issue and with economic uncertainty, people's discretionary spending could be curtailed.
"It's difficult to see a huge increase in traffic in the next few years."

CAA Passenger stats for February
A total of 63,882 passengers passed through Glasgow Prestwick during February down -38.2% on the same month last year. Passenger figures for the rolling year stand at 1,579,523 down -9.8% on the previous twelve months.
A very disappointing month for the airport. Do any of the resident users of Forums4airports Prestwick have anything to say about the latest passenger stats?

This is the 3rd month in a row that passenger figures at Prestwick are down approximately 40% on the corresponding month last year. This is due to Ryanair moving many routes from Prestwick to Edinburgh and also cutting capacity on others - the Prestwick to Dublin route has gone down from 14 rotations p.w. to 11 rotations p.w. and the Prestwick to Stansted route has reduced from 21 rotations p.w. to 9 rotations p.w. In addition, the daily Prestwick to Belfast service ceased, when Ryanair stopped using Belfast City Airport. Unbelievably, the Prestwick to Stansted route, from the summer timetable next week, has reduced even further to a mere daily flight! No doubt, Ryanair will blame this on air taxes hitting domestic flights hardest, but this surely must be losing both Ryanair and PIK many passengers to the competing Easyjet route from Glasgow to Stansted. How come the air taxes don't seem to be having as much of an effect on that domestic route?
I don't understand Ryanair's attitude towards Prestwick - they have recently opened a second maintenance hangar at the airport, but, on the other hand, they seem to have no interest in expanding their passenger operations there, preferring instead to concentrate mainly sun destinations from Prestwick and most other routes from Edinburgh.
This is the problem for PIK - apart from a couple of Wizzair flights per week to Gdansk and Warsaw, they are almost totally dependant on Ryanair, who seem to have lost interest in expanding there.

Another poor month for Glasgow Prestwick airport. A total of 130,956 passengers passed through the airport during May. -13.3% down compared with May last year. Rolling year passenger totals were 1,529,126 down 8.4% year on year.
Did Glasgow Prestwick lose any traffic last month with the ash cloud, I know Edinburgh and Glasgow International were affected?

DfT forecast for UK airport passenger numbers in 2020 and 2050
I'm a bit surprised that no-one has picked up on the post I did recently in the Aviation Industry forum regarding the DfT's forecast for UK airport passenger figures for the years 2020, 2030, 2040 and 2050.
I reproduced the figures for 2020 and 2050 for the current top 20 airports.
Perhaps the Aviation Industry forum is not well visited so I thought I'd mention the individual airport figures in the forums of the more popular airports on forums4airports.
The Dft is forecasting sparse growth until 2020 at many regional airports.
Prestwick Airport is forecast to be handling 2 mppa in 2020 and and between 2 and 9 mppa in 2050.

Still no good news re passenger numbers for Prestwick Airport. That near 2.5 mppa of three or four years ago seems a long time past.
November 2011 saw 45,807 passengers handled, down 39.5% on November 2010. Atms were down 29.4%.
Rolling 12-month figure was 1,317,736, down 22.6% on this time last year.
