You can always tell the old Manchester shots by those two tall thin trees in the background..... until they built Terminal 2.

Air Anglia F-27 G-BAKL on Stand 2, taken from the old open air spotters area, circa 1977.
Mediocre quality in part due to the 'nobbly' texture on this print - which seems to have been the rage in those days.

In my eyes that's a Saab 340,
I'm certain Aer Lingus never operated the larger Saab 2000.
It is a Saab 340 - it is a typo cum age thing. I can't edit it either for some reason. First time I wrote the post I put Saab 340 too but the photos wouldn't load up. I got that right eventually and then put the wrong aircraft type.

The above F27-400 was leased by Air Anglia from Fokker during 1977-78. She was dressed in the Linair (Libya) livery with the usual 'Air Anglia' titles on the lower fuselage. I was quite excited when I first saw this particular aeroplane. I was only seven !

Aeromaritime Boeing 737 300 F- GFUA - Aeromaritime were a regular for part of the summer in 1989, replacing many of the flights previously operated by the failed airline, Hispania, who many will recall had a 737 300 and a 757 200 impounded at LBA for their failure to pay landing fees. By the time the 737 300 left, it had had its tail fin painted white by a man on the apron, using a cherry picker. Sadly, Aeromaritime were (to my knowledge) never seen again at LBA after 1989. This aircraft went to Australian Airlines in September 1989, has changed hands 17 times since and remains in service with Nauru Airlines as VH-NLKView attachment 14464

Argosy G-BEOZ of Air Bridge Carriers, parked on Stand 1 - 15/08/1978.
Possibly transporting horses?
Does anyone still have a log for that day - because shortly afterwards, this beauty arrived:-

B.A.F. Carvair - taken arriving on R33 from along Scotland Lane whilst cycling home .
Would love to know the reg. after all these years :) Anyone?
If you have queries on past movements at LBA it is worth trying the Air Yorkshire website,a lot of past Air Yorkshire magazines have been scanned and posted on there.Having said that August 1978 isn't amongst them!

Ah WH, you mentioned Hispania. This prompted me to (badly) quickly scan two photos as it was better than suffering Strictly Come Dancing on the telly that was being viewed by Mrs Barnsley!

The first is of Boeing 737-200 EC-DZB which made its first visit on 10 May 1986, and the second the following season with Boeing 737-300 EC-EBX which first visited on 01 May 1987.

As in a previous post, a question has been raised which refers to Air 2000, here are two photos of their original Boeing 757 200 G-OOOA (which commenced ops from LBA to Faro in May 1987 and was the first regular operation by a 757 from LBA), and Airbus A320 G-OOAA, which also operated the Faro flight a few years later.View attachment 14470View attachment 14472

A seven year gap between the two types. First visits were G-OOOA 03 May 1987, and G-OOAA 01 May 1994.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
