Also due in addition to the Horizon in the early hours is a RAF A400 from Frankfurt to Brize Norton and a Excel 737 from Gothamburg.
Additionally to yesterdays two EasyJet Bristol diversions another A319 diverted in last night operating Belfast to Stansted, all three are weather related.

As passenger levels rise, it is inevitable that BHX facilities will increase to cope with the demand.

But what about cargo? If I have read things correctly, then cargo-wise, the airport is now much busier than it was. I base this on frequent 744 arrivals and other but frame planes and increased regular services.

Does this mean the airport infrastructure will inevitably have to develop to cater for this: new purpose-built buildings, increased handling area etc etc.

For those who have dedicated knowledge of BHX cargo operations, will we see any development?

I can only hope we do see some development, but where that will be is anyone's guess. If Hangar 2 came down the site could be re-developed (but that would cost an absolute fortune bearing in mind the amount of asbestos), but that is only a small area.

Whilst there is still space for Swissport in their building I am not sure how much area Dnata have to develop on their site. Of course FedEx have now left the Gateway Estate so there are office / warehouse units available there (with ramp access) but again probably not enough for a major operation.

Of course, there were whisperings (many moons ago) of a major redevelopment over by the golf course (but them Monarch went and built a Hangar there for maintenance)! How much usable space is available is sheer guess work but from my viewpoint (over looking the runway) there does not seem to be that much available.

BHX lost its way regarding cargo once EMA developed their operation for DHL (and now others).

The Silkway not long flew over me what a Noise from those Beautiful RB211's. I heard the Roar then the Iconic Whine and Scream all in one. Fantastic Engines that we don't get often at BHX or anywhere anymore

The Silkway 744 is actually is powered by four GE-CF6 the RB211 was not really that popular on the 747.

We do however get a regular four engined Rolls powered visitor with the dailyTrent powered A380.

Air Champagne A321N F-HBUZ arrived this afternoon from Orly and departed to Baltimore guessing it's taking Villa on their pre season wonderings 🤔.

The CGA CGM A332F is in for STS.

The majority of A380s, particularly the older ones in the Emirates fleet, are GE powered. Though from a quick scan of the BHX Movements blog a few RR powered ones do make the trip. Anything EUM reg onwards, basically.

(though having said that a quick scan of the last week or so says its mostly newer RR powered ones).

No idea who the Maersk flights are operating for but as they seem to be originating in China (as does everything nowadays or so it seems) I would be tempted to say it is all bits and pieces for a well known Chinese retailer! I do recall seeing more EVRI vehicles coming in and out of the Airport since the influx of freighters started! As you say the services are most welcome and are proof that BHX can handle a multitude of Aircraft. Lets enjoy the services for as long as possible and hope that we can attract some more (if possible). My one worry is that the Bonded Warehouses may run out of capacity to handle both these services and our more regular freight options using EK / QR / TK etc. I have mentioned before that BHX does have limited capacity for cargo and we need to take care that we do not upset the position for the regulars!

The other day we had an Horizon Air EC-ZCZ I think 737-400 from Malljorca not often you see them it was carrying the RCD Malljorca team to and from Great Barr where they faced the Baggies in a behind closed doors Friendly

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 2nd time

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
