As a keeper of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, I compare an English Bull Terrier to a B787, similar face but excellent breed with the A350 being the Staffie. There was no point being made but an expression of my opinion of looks!

There is a issue on a Pakistani Forum site that British Airways have applied for 10 more slots to serve Pakistan with flights and issue is that it will be from Manchester or Birmingham to Pakistan. ( They also have discussed that BA Currently only operate Heathrow from Manchester and Birmingham is yet to be served again- but these new slots are likely to be for midlands or north west.) PIA FORUM -

The issue as i copy and pasted is:

Probably British Airways sought permission to operate flights between Manchester and Pakistan or for Birmingham.

In the past, British Airways operated flights between Manchester and Islamabad.

* I telephoned KAM AIR yesterday and spoke with Islamabad Office- about future routes and suggested Birmingham International Airport UK BHX - would be ideal for KAM AIR as well with Connections to India and Pakistan including Kabul route so that many of those Afghans can visit love ones. KAM AIR office Islamabad told me that they are in the progress of introducing NORWAY FLIGHTS to Afghanistan - this is interesting and he has noted Birmingham UK suggestion as well - I shall write a letter to Kabul Office to suggest that Birmingham BHX would be ideal destination - before they introduce to another UK HUB - Fingers Crossed Birmingham gets KAM AIR - it be nice to have a new airline in Birmingham .

Although not aware of any limits on direct intercontinental commercial flights from Kabul, the only viable way of operating to BHX maybe via Islamabad. Codeshare PIA and Kam.

Can imagine there could be plenty of political hurdles to clear, in addition to the logistical ones.

KJAY, I really don't think that you understand the situation in Afghanistan. Due to Joe Biden's ludicrous decision to pull troops out, he has abandoned the people of Afghanistan to the brutal, dictatorial regime of the taliban (deliberately spelled without a capital letter), who think nothing of murdering the citizens for even minor crimes. The chances of them being allowed to leave the country to visit relatives is exactly zero! With China now likely to 'befriend' Afghanistan (and gain access to the county's vast mineral deposits including I believe the largest Lithium deposit in the world - nice one Biden!), that's about the only place there are likely to be flights to. Ordinary citizens however won't be able to travel.

As much as I admire enthusiasm for different Airlines to come into BHX, the facts are that unless an Airline can make money from a service, it will not happen. Since Covid hit, most Airlines have reduced their services either by changing aircraft type or even pulling off the route entirely. Most carriers are having to stomach losses the likes of which have never been seen before. I think BHX can consider it lucky that we have kept as much as we have so far. Yes in an ideal world it would be fantastic to see every Airline coming in with a variety of different flights but being practical unless the airport can offer serious traffic potential to an Airline it will never position a flight. Personally I would love to see a couple of services to the USA, some African and some Far East flights but as we can already serve these markets on a one stop basis the likelihood of major Airlines coming into BHX is severely reduced. Lets concentrate on securing what we have until confidence returns to the industry and then see what happens. I would also suggest that carriers which are not allowed into the UK (or Europe in general) should be on a back burner until they get approval to return. Saves time for everyone.

At least KJAY is being positive, never knew of KAMAIR till it was posted. However, much has occurred and will need to settle before the exotics return.
I disagree. Afghanistan is in the middle of a humanitarian crisis. People are fleeing out of the country away from the Taliban who have now taken control of the country. The airport is in disarray. Obviously it is not taking civilian flights at the moment. 7 people have reportedly been crushed at the airport and we have seen videos of people walking on top of parked planes, running alongside military aircraft trying to cling on. Military aircraft are using tactical manoeuvres in and out of the airport. Western countries including the USA and UK are conducting major operations to evacuate citizens.

Enthusiasm for Birmingham Aiport and its routes is of course appreciated by all members of this forum. However, it is insensitive to contact an airline of a country that is in such a dire situation, in order to further our own interests of developing routes to BHX. I shudder at the hardship that the staff at that airline and their families are currently going through. I am sure that the contact was not made with any malintent, more a misunderstanding of the current situation in the country. Nevertheless, it should not be encouraged.

As a layman I would have thought that lobbying an airline to operate to BHX it would be best in the present circumstances to be contacting the likes of SAS, Brussels, Swiss, Iberia,Air India,Qatar et all to encourage them to return ASAP which I believe most plan to when travel becomes easier.

Other longer term stuff/aspirations especially long haul such as New York must be someway down the line.

Any news on Flybe2 as there have been a few rumours elsewhere re BHX Ops.

Think Iberia Express have permanently withdrawn BHX-MAD. The others will only return when there is a significant upturn in passenger numbers and lifting of Covid restrictions.

Yes it would be good to have BHX-JFK/EWR but with DUB so close, as you say, it's some way down the line.

Flybe 2 still not launched. Website still has coming soon and it's been like that for months. Wonder what's left route wise after Eastern, Loganair, EasyJet have shared out the spoils.

I've seen passenger figures somewhere but can't recall where, maybe routes on line with regard to the uptake from Britain to the USA with Aer Lingus via Dublin and BHX wasn't great most people go down the M40 I think.

As far as Flybe 2 from a BHX perspective there are plenty of unserved or undeserved routes to Europe and they have reportedly being advertising for BHX based staff at a senior level indicating a base so hopefully something is bubbling away under the surface between them and the airport.

Rotten time to be starting up an airline though if it actually happens.

Today I have just telephoned UZBEKISTAN AIRLINES - London Office with suggestion start Birmingham BHX Flights says he will tell management and it is a great suggestion- he agrees will be busy to all sectors include Tashkent, Pakistan Lahore and India Delhi and Amritsar - hope UZBEKIATAN AIRLINES do come back to Birmingham BHX -

I am trying to encourage airlines to use BHX and I think the only way forward is to encourage an airline like POP to realise how successful economic and leisure wise is Birmingham for Business and Tourism as well - Overall I agree Monarch and Britannia were excellent to the midlands - I did not realise how successful they were with Britannia and Monarch but i know Birmingham international was named an International hub for a reason it was excellent consumer service and a beautiful airport to fly in and out of now we need still an airline like British Airways and Virgin to invest in a new terminal and flights from Birmingham - midlands airport since media realised Kabul flights can travel to Birmingham Airport we now are on the map BHX must advertise the airport well to attract new airlines and expand in the midlands airport - I hope they do it and i still feel EL-AL should look at BHX in detail they serve Luton and Standstad as well Heathrow and Manchester - BHX needs a Tel Aviv link for Tourism Business and meet largest Jewish Community needs it be ideal to link Jewellery Quarters with Tel-Aviv - let us see what happens i am always writing to ELAL await correspondence.

0% chance of BA or Virgin starting BHX and why would they invest in a terminal ?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
