Maybe pier B & C stands will be used as remotes, but the stands on taxiway Zulu work for TUI & Jet2 and are not in constant use, there are times during the day when they (along with the legacy T2 stands) are available.
There will be new remote stands in the future replacing some of today’s pier B & C stands.

Yes there are long walks, like the same as other large international airports, ok they could have installed more travellator’s in the new piers definitely and I agree ref the demolition of T1 should have happened to make way for a new terminal.
But you are making the mistake of a direct comparison with Liverpool in your reference, it’s apples and oranges! I have used Gatwick and Stansted many times in the past, so therefore I can make an accurate comparison with them when thinking of my experiences through Manchester. For Liverpool I can’t make a comparison but my guess would be something like Leeds or Bristol airports?!
Agree can't compare LPJA to Manchester, but certainly I would choose LPJA for low cost airline experience!

An October update flew out on Tuesday with Virgin so got some pics on my way. The first image is of the T2 service yard I believe they are putting in new windows for the Wetherspoons. Check in zone A is ready for the quick deck platform to be installed. Pier 2 now looks watertight with the nodes being built for the gates. Circulation core also looks to be nearing completion. Sorry I didn’t get anymore pics I had a slight issue at check in Delta had cancelled my connecting flight.IMG_3594.jpegIMG_3595.jpegIMG_3606.jpegIMG_3618.jpegIMG_3619.jpeg

No worries I was going from gate 204 so had to go past most of the construction to get to my flight. It will be interesting to see when the old check in hall is back online fully And if they will be removing or keeping the original forecourt and frontage. Because it looks bad airside where the old terminal meets new if you know what I mean.

The legacy check in, baggage hall and arrivals area will be refurbished to the same standard as the T2X look.
But as the forecourt and frontage I don’t believe anything will change unfortunately as per the arrivals level and apron side, you can clearly see the difference and unfortunately it wasn’t in the budget to make the old and new look the same!
Typical UK!

Airport looks generally disjointed and tatty, aprons are a patchwork of old/new concrete and tarmac. Old towers are an eyesore! Looked its best when T2 first opened!

Does anyone have details and pictures of original T2 expansion plan? i.e. extention of western pier to its limits and plan for remote satellite pier in front of T2. Would have been so much better, provided more contact gates and easier to build. I believe when T2 was originally build and underground tunnel was earmarked for the future satellite pier?

That plan for tunnel was dropped many years ago and I beieve they cannot pull old tower down until T1 and T3 are out of use completely

Thanks for pictures. Still scheduled for completion in July 25?
Between end of this year and next summer

Here’s the original 1990-ish plan:

And a section showing the changes of level to the tunnel:

And a later proposal with larger remote pier linked from a version of T2X this time, plus a west pier double extension:

Just to add to the info marni1971 posted I also uploaded this a while back https://forums4airports.com/threads/3252/post-225039

The dual taxiway wouldn’t have been possible I if the initial layout remained.
Let’s see what happens with the current freight sheds…

Really interesting, looks like an escalator system to underground tunnel was originally planned.. Surely if they went with original T2 phase 2 plan, demolished Pier C then a dual taxiway could have been used to approach T2 stands. T2 was iconic and great building when first opened. Such a shame its been engulfed by new developments. Must have been decided that current T2 expansion plan was a cheaper alternative!!

Once Pier 2 and original T2 refurbishment completed. Is there a time line for other projects? Pier 3? T1 closure? New remote stands? What's next 10 year plan say?

Imagine it's 2050. What does the airport look like? 4 x piers, cargo sheds all demolished with new remote stands. T1 and 3 integrated into one. Pier B rebuilt. Pier C, old towers, old T1 buildings and multistorey demolished, new taxiway on runway 2......??

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
